Texan Cultures: not an oxymoron 8/8/2002

The Institute of Texan Cultures has been raising awareness about the Texas melting pot since HemisFair in 1968. I think any child raised in San Antonio since then can remember field trips to the ITC; it's a wonderful museum for both children and adults. Kids' favorites include the stuffed buffalo, Native American archeological exhibits, and the surround-screen amphitheatre. A special highlight is the annual Folklife Festival every June, where craftsmen and performers from all over Texas come to represent their particular heritage. more

Undervalued attraction 7/23/2002

This is an attraction that is not highly publicized and is more deserving of greater respect. THe staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their work. The exhibits change and are well maintained. The surround sound/movie demonstration about Texas and Texans is well worth the wait. Additionally, this institute hosts one of the best festivals in the city - The International Folklife Festival in June! Pros: exciting, well maintained, inexpensive Cons: poor parking, no military discount, difficult hours more
