Indianapolis Museum Of Art

I wish I would have known they were doing construction which, will be ready in 2005. The finished part is beautiful. The collection currently only goes up to the French Impressionism era. Which, was kind of disappointing. The IMA is a great place to bring a date. The have it set up so you can walk right up to the pictures. Security gaurds roam each room and watch carefully so no one will touch but, the expierence is one of a kind. I think it would be nice to see the grounds in the spring/ summer. I am sure when the construction is finished IMA will be one of the best in the country. Pros: Beautiful Grounds, Free Admission, Friendly Help Cons: , No Modern Art more

It is not free but is more than worth the money more

I love the art museum -- except that children are definitely NOT made welcome. The collections are great. However, when I took my well-behaved and curious children to the museum, my son (6) was very sad that he could not see any of the works on display, as they were hung at an adult eye level. When I picked him up so that he could see something other than wall, a security guard informed me that it is not permissible to carry anything -- including children -- through the museum, due to fears that the artwork would be damaged. When I asked what remedy there could be for my son, I was informed that I could bring him back on family day. So I would rate the art museum great for a date or a night out, but not a great family attraction until the kids are in high school. Pros: Relaxed atmosphere Cons: Not family friendly more
