I have been coming here since I moved to Santa Barbara. About two years ago, I brought my BMW in for its first service.; he caught a major problem that would have ruined my car. Independent Automotive Group went above and beyond to take outstanding care of my car. They diagnosed the problem and had it back to me in running condition in over a day. Unfortunately, that car was later totaled and I got a Mini Cooper. I continue to bring my Mini in for absolutely anything. \r \r The owner is an extremely compassionate man. He lives for cars and it is reflected in his work as well as staff. All of Asiri's staff are equally knowledgeable about all makes and models. My family members bring their Lexus, Toyota, and Mazda here and have also never been disappointed. \r \r If I ever have a small problem, I bring my car in and Asiri or one of his outstanding employees will look at my car. He saved me hundreds of dollars with what I thought was an exhaust problem by simply putting in on the rack and diagnosing the problem for free. All i needed was a new gas cap that he gave to me for the same price I could have purchased it for on Ebay. \r \r For my 60k service on my Mini, I let him know that money was an issue. He was very receptive to this and did all the extremely necessary service issues for that mileage and let me know that I could come back in 5,000 miles for the rest of the tune up. \r \r I work as a valet and at many events I manage, I notice people with the ""Independent Lexus"" license plate frame. When I mention Asiri, all I get are smiles and good responses. \r \r I can truly say that the owner and his crew are honest, reliable, hard working guys. They make going to get your car serviced a true pleasure. more

Are they really experienced? 9/2/2011

Several years ago, I had a P0171 trouble code on my Lexus. Unfortunately, at the time, I did not know much about cars and I was fooled into paying for a 3 hour labor job. For those who don't know, P0171 generally means there is an issue with the Mass Air Flow Sensor. They ended up running a myriad of tests indirectly on the sensor to locate the problem - which just turned out to be a dead sensor. Running a gambit by the book is what they did, and this is exactly what should not have been done by an experience service technician group. Checking the MAF should've been the first thing for P0171, and it would have taken an hour tops to remove the sensor, check the diode, clean it, and run it to see if that fixes it. more

Lexus Specialists 10/24/2010

I just found this Lexus specialist after 5 years of using the local quick-service place. I knew there was no Lexus dealer in town and thought these were my only options. Once I found Independent Automotive, which deals specifically with Lexus (mine is a 2004), and talked with the owner, Asiri DeSilva, I knew I was on to something good. I was concerned about money, and we talked about what needed to be done and what it would cost. Asiri gave me a printed estimate, so no surprises when it came time to pay. The car had to be completely evaluated as it wasn't originally clear as to what was wrong with it.. I did find out the Fast Lane people were not using Lexus parts when they told me they could. I also had some body work done while Asiri had the car, and it is beautiful. Asiri returned the car to me in wonderful condition. The outside and inside of the car had never looked so good. About a month later my car wouldn't start, and I debated whether to call AAA or Asiri. I called Asiri first and he diagnosed the problem over the phone. The solution was ultra-simple but involved obscure information that only someone with a *thorough* knowledge of Lexus' would know. I was really blown away by how easy Asiri made it for me. more

As good as it gets 11/9/2009

Been taking care of our two Lexus for years. Does a better job than the dealers at a more than competitive price. Pros: Top job on everything Cons: Not a thing more
