Progressive Lutherans. Solid theology. A place where you are nourished. Global and local ministries. So friendly. I'm a member now and to me it's like how I dream church should be. Maybe you'll find it as a bit of Lake Wobegon in the city that we all need, but the church is also cutting edge. The people have a great sense of humor. If you know about Holden Village, you'll find the same feeling of community and activism. \r \r Come drop by a service some Sunday to see the sanctuary -- stunningly beautifully restored historic church in South Lake Union. A place where I guarantee you'll find renewal in your life. more

Immanuel has become my community home since joining four years ago. There are all ages and backgrounds represented in this vibrant community, and I find myself learning something new every time I go. It's a church that truly walks the walk with providing social services, from the food bank to the hygiene program and the men's recovery program, provided through Immanuel Community Services.\r \r If you are looking for a place to belong, to be challenged, to be loved and accepted for who you are, come to Immanuel. There is a place for everyone in this church. more

Welcoming small church serving the community 10/7/2011

A friend recommended we visit Immanuel Lutheran in South Lake Union 3 years ago. We liked everything about the church; the worship style, the sermon, the music, the education program, the people and the neighborhood services they provide through Immanuel Community Services (a food bank, recovery program, hygiene program and community lunch.) The congregation welcomes all and there is a nice diversity of people. The facility is almost 100 years old and looks like it was plucked right out of the Midwest. But the people are definitely Seattleites. We have since joined and have found the worship experience and spiritual growth that eluded us for many years. more

A real church 8/25/2011

At first i was skeptical wether this church is a real ""immanuel"" but after I've seen how this church care to the very least amongst the South Lake Union community, I'm convinced that I belong here. I joined and actively engaged with the food bank every two last Fridays of each month. I saw that the neighborhood is changing, but the spirit of the church remain the same... to serve when others can only judge. more

Serioulsy, you're making our neighborhood unbearable! 12/20/2009

Do you really think giving, giving, giving will teach these homeless, ex-cons, hookers, pimps and drug dealers to make it on their own some day? NO, they just keep demaining more and more free to them. Why don't you teach them how to be a contributing memeber of society or have them trade some service they have rather than give it all away? We need so much work around SLU due to these who want a free ride. Cannot they do something to help us back for dealing with all the misery they put on us? - rather than contunie using and I do mean using the church for a free ride. Don't you see you are being taken advantage of??? Open your eyes good people of the lord. Yes, be good, be good, but at some point, you need to really help these people and giving them all this, isn't helping them, it's only hurting them in the longrun, by making them dependent on someone other than themselves. They would feel so much better about themselves if they earned something. We in SLU, are tired of our nice neighborhood being filling up with their trash, feces, sleeping bags, bottle, needles etc. The break in's, the tagging, etc etc etc......They only reason they are here is due to your church and that Center. Community Center??? give me a break!! The actual community is scared near it !!!! Why don''t you think about being a good neighborh for once! more

stop catering to trouble makers! 5/25/2009

Please stop supporting trouble makers and making them the rest of our neighborhoods problem and that house next door!!! Oh my gosh, how can you let that happen???? I see needles and people smoking out of foil, little less small marijuaana. They wander around the community center and playgrounds and scare my children. We are scared to death around your church. Please stop letting these trouble makers take over our nice neighborhood. Cons: Facilitate illegal activity more
