AVOID THIS PLACE. Unless you like to be lied to, then maybe swing by. I've never been treated so poorly. more

Best of all time 11/3/2010

I really had not had time to take proper care of my skin. I have been looking for a place to go and get a good facial. A friend recommend I go here and book an appointment with Emily. When I got there, Emily came up and greeted me. She was very pleasant and friendly. I was a little nervous having not gone to her before. She was great at putting me at ease. The best part is that this was the best facial I ever had. Emily works absolute magic! It felt absolutely wonderful and my face looked radiant. I will definitely be going back again. If you go here, ask for Emily. She is the best. more

You might as well do-it-yourself blindfolded, 8/7/2010

First of all, the moment I walked into the salon, a Vietnamese man, who I assumed was the owner, snapped his fingers at me and pointed to a chair, very rudely while he talked on his cell phone. I sat down on one of the couches and started flipping through the magazines they had to offer. There was no one else there, it seemed. I have never seen a salon so empty on a Saturday before! After 30 minutes of waiting, my stylist, Jenni approached me and brought me back for my color, cut, and eyebrow wax. I wanted my hair very light blonde so she started putting foils of bleach in my hair. At first it was going okay, other than the awkward silence. She didn't say two words to me after I told her what I wanted! Then my scalp started to sting and burn. I asked her if it was supposed to burn and she said, and I quote, ""Well, its not supposed to feel good."" I was in shock! I mean how rude? Finally she took me over to the shampoo bowl and snapped at a girl who she called ""Shampoo Girl"". What was with the snapping! This ""Shampoo Girl"", who seemed irritated began to shampoo my hair. Jenni came around the other side and started waxing my the shampoo station!!! It was like a freaking chop shop or something! Overall the cut was okay, a little shorter than I had asked for. The color turned out okay but, hurt in the process. The service and business ethic was the worst I've ever experienced and the extremely high prices were definitely not worth the trouble. Please, please, please don't go here unless you adore rude people and love pain. By the way I think it is extremely rude to suggest I was not a real customer and I posted the same review on yelp that they paid to have removed. Bad Business! more

Wonderful relaxing facial 1/27/2010

I went to the salon to take advantage of a Spa Wish Gift Card I had received months ago. I looked up salons in the Seattle area and decided to go to Illustrated Hair Salon. I am so glad that I did. Catalina gave me a very relaxing facial and I was very pleased with her technique. I felt like she was very concerned with making me feel pampered. Everything about being there was good! I plan to go back for more relaxing moments. Pros: Catalina knows her stuff more

Great customer service and a GREAT style! 9/24/2009

I posted a negative review awhile ago because a stylist that was at Illustrated briefly did a terrible job on my hair (my long-time stylist there had recently moved). The owners saw my review, called me, and offered me a free redo - even though it had been months since my bad experience. That, in and of itself, was amazing - what great customer service! Then, Jennie did my redo and WOW! She is so talented. She understood exactly what I wanted and my hair looks amazing. I will definitely continue to be a dedicated client at Illustrated! Pros: dedication to clients, location, parking more

Great Haircut for curly hair! 2/19/2009

I recently got my haircut by Christine, at Illustrated Salon on Greenlake, she really took the time to listen to what I wanted to do with my unruley curly hair. She gave a great shampoo and scalp massage and some how managed to tame my wild hair! Thanks a ton!\r Jesse more

Amelia is amazing 1/20/2009

Amelia is a truly talented stylist and colorist. with an artist's touch. She takes her time and is creative in the way she cuts and does color. I have never been happier with my cut and color as I have been in the last year. $145 is the most I've ever spent on a partial foil and cut, but I budget it into my life because Amelia is so good.\r The salon carries good product lines. I also like that nobody pushes any products on me that I don't need. more

Great cut--bad liars 1/4/2009

Got a hair cut by Jinny--great cut. But when I went to pay, things went awry. The hair cut suddenly cost a lot more than what they quoted me over the phone. I told her what I was quoted over the phone--and she said, ""yes but it cost extra for long hair"". I was immediately upset--as in this economy, we're all watching our pennies--and no one told me this over the phone. And since when is shoulder length hair considered ""long""? I decided I could get over it--but then, I went to pay with my gift certificate. She said the gift certificate is worth 15% less for processing fees. Now I felt like I was being screwed--I had asked about the gift certificates when I called earlier that day and was told it was only 10% for the processing fees. She looked at me like ""sorry, but there's nothing I can do"". But when I told her this, suddenly, the gentleman who was standing behind her this entire time overhearing our conversation (the same guy who quoted me both of these things over the phone) turned around and said, ""ya, I told her it was only going to be 10%"". If I hadn't said anything--she would have charged me the 15% and he wouldn't have argued! I won't go back--I feel like they are dishonest --as everything was different than what they told me over the phone. Beware! more

Best cut and color I've EVER had 12/4/2008

This is the best salon I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of salons. Amelia is so talented and really listens when you're explaining what you want - then creates it a million times better than it even looked in your head! I always thought I couldn't wear my hair long because it got limp when it got past my shoulders. Other stylists always suggested hot rollers and/or crunchy gross products, but who has the time or wants crunchy hair? I can barely manage a blowdry in the morning! Amelia created a cut that creates fullness and bounce with just a blowdry. My hair's to the middle of my back now and NOT LIMP (and I'm still on grocery-store it's definitely the cut). I also love that the salon is eco-friendly and no one tries to hard sell products. Parking is easy and the location can't be beat! Pros: Amelia, great products, good prices Cons: none that I can think of! more

This salon is amazing! Friendly staff and I absolutely love the cut and color I got from my stylist, Amelia. She listened to what I wanted, didn't try to get creative or experiment, and I ended up with a fab cut and color! I will definitely be back next time. They have a great assortment of products, I love the new line, Prive! Parking is convenient too. Overall, a fantastic experience, haven't been to a salon in Seattle with such great customer service and reasonable prices. Would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone looking for a great haircut and/or color. Pros: friendly staff, reasonable prices, amazing stylist more

Loved my new haircut! 9/16/2008

I called and was able to get an appointment the same day. Jennie gave me a great cut and also taught me how to use the product she recommended for my hair. My family members noticed the difference in the cut and were very complimentary. This is my new place to go. more

Great blow-dry. 9/3/2008

I paid $48 for a wash and blow-dry. Within 2 hours, my hair was flat and had no remaining style! When I complained, I was given a make-up appointment in two days time. The day of the make-up it was pouring, so I decided to reschedule because I didn't want to take the chance of having my redo ruined by the rain. There were no available appointments for another week and I was put on stand-by. I never received a call back. I would not recommend this salon.\r \r \r Update: Since writing this review, I have been contacted by the salon and received a redo. Amelia did a fantastic job! My style is still going strong after two days and I have received a number of compliments. I'm glad the salon was able to ""find"" my phone number and reschedule me. After some bother, it all worked out well. Pros: Ambience, Service more

Excellent service! 5/31/2008

I called in the morning to get in for a pedicure. I had an appt. within an hour of calling. While I was getting my pedicure I decided I needed a haircut. I only had to wait about 20 minutes to get in and cut was great. The gal who did my pedicure was spectacular. She took her time and did a great job. Highly recommended! Pros: excellent customer service; great value more

Amazing Salon! Perfect Cut and Style! Great environment! 5/29/2008

O.K. - I have to admit that typically I tend to do drive by hair cuts as the moment moves me. So typically I land myself in the lower class scale of ""salons"". While it gets the job done, rarely do I walk out and feel that the world is now looking at a newer and improved me. SO, this time I decided why not try and go to a professional salon where the stylists are able to truly work on all hair types (my hair also is VERY naturally curly), and I will say I definitely did not leave disappointed!!! Not only did I get an amazing cut and style, but when I walked out I had the relaxed, rejuvenated feeling you usually only get after the best massage of your life....and all I went in for was a trim!\r \r So that was just one of many things that I loved about this place. As I said before I have naturally curly hair. While everybody always seems to ""envy"" me, I always think to myself yes it is nice, but because of it being this way, my hair has pretty much looked the same my entire life. Well, when expressing this to my stylist Jennie, she was able to explain and show me some new ways to style my hair that I would have never been able to come up with, without her expertise...and they were ways that I could do on my own at home.\r \r Saving the best for last, I have to really give my thanks to Jennie. Not only is she an amazing stylist, but she also is the most personable stylist I have ever gone too. Not one part of our conversation was the stale ""what do you think about this weather"" talk. She truly is passionate about what she does, and it shows through her expertise as well as her personality.\r \r I highly suggest this place to everyone. You will not be dissappointed. On top of all the other great things I have mentioned, the salon itself is very inviting, clean, comfortable, and located right on green lake! Do yourself a favor, and give this salon a try! Pros: The entire experience, atmosphere, expertise, location... Cons: None! more

Great haircut at an environmentally friendly salon! 5/10/2008

I live in Brooklyn but haven't had time to get to a salon recently, so when I was in Seattle for a wedding, I booked an appointment at Illustrated Salon. Its website enticed me with the promise of a calm, eco-friendly vibe. I wasn't disappointed. When I arrived, I was greeted right away by my stylist, who offered me a drink and gave me a really thorough consult before starting in on my hair (complete with a scalp massage) -- just what I needed. Plus, the result was fantastic -- the best haircut I've had in years! The only less-than-stellar thing I have to say about this place is that I booked online and thought that qualified me for a discount that I didn't receive, but considering how reasonable the price was, I didn't think to complain. \r \r p.s. - After I posted this, I got an e-mail from the salon explaining that I didn't get the discount due to a computer glitch and offering a refund. How nice! Pros: Loved my stylist, nice vibe, no terrible salon smell more

Jennie is the best! 1/5/2008

I just moved to Seattle from Phoenix, so the change in humidity was wreaking havoc on my hair. I tried almost a dozen shampoos and conditioners to fix the problem but continued to have bad-hair days. I finally decided maybe the humidity was just too much for me to have long hair since my hair is so thin and fine. I went to Jennie and showed her the photo of the style I wanted--kind of like Ellen Barkin's current style but slightly longer than chin-length. Jennie really listened and suggested changes that would fit the shape of my face and my hair type, then she was off--think Edward Scissorhands with a straight razor and sheers. When she was done, she'd cut off about 3-5 inches (with layered ends), and it was PERFECT--one of the rare times I actually walked out of the salon with the cut looking just like the photo I'd requested. When I went back for my next cut, I told her I wanted to grow it out and keep the same shape but slightly longer, and my transitional cut looks just as good. \r \r The staff is always so friendly. They always ask if you want water or juice when you walk in, and the salon itself is brand new and spotless. You could not ask for a better stylist or a nicer setting!!! Pros: Experienced stylist, beautiful and spotless salon, friendly staff Cons: Some pressure to buy products more

GREAT CUT! FRIENDLY ! 10/20/2007

My hair was a mess from previous cuts while living the summer in Alaska. Not to worry, since I had my head in a hat most of the time, but I wanted a cut that when I went out I could allow me to be comfortable with my look. I explained all of my expectations to Jennie at the salon and she was very professional, and gave me a cut that was just what I wanted. It looked good, and was cute, according to my girlfriend, and looked casual, but very styled that I have been able to continue the look with little work in the morning or evening. I will be back anytime I am in Seattle. Very happy! Pros: Professional, knowledgable?, friendly. Cons: NA more
