Best

We had never dined at Figlio before and were genuinely impressed. The host(s) were extremely friendly. We were even 20 minutes late due to traffic, but they still got us right to...

Worst

This place is fun. It's loud, especially in the bar area...but the fun is worth it. Personally i am a big fan of backasswards happy hour on Sun-Tues. I can get a plate of potatoes...

Sad 3/15/2010

I hate that parasol took away the (Iconic Bistro) and put a fake Italian place in with rotten service! Pros: Figlio Cons: Il Gato more

Horrible bartender and overpriced food... 5/23/2009

I went there and it wasn't busy. There were 5 people at the bar mind you. I sat at the bar and was ignored for 20 minutes before walking out. The bartender would look at me and walk away even though I had my id and wallet on the bar. He was busy trying to mack on some uptown wannabe. I was even wearing a suit so I should have fit in with the stuckup atmosphere. Maybe if I had breast implants I could have had a newcastle. Problem is, I'm a guy. Maybe I shouldn't have worn my invisibility cloak that day. My bad. Get over yourselves. Great place to watch humans made of plastic be cool. Pros: Great place to wear sunglasses indoors at night Cons: Service, service, service, service, and service more

Excellent experience for a first visit! 2/16/2009

We had never dined at Figlio before and were genuinely impressed. The host(s) were extremely friendly. We were even 20 minutes late due to traffic, but they still got us right to a table. Our waitress, Brittany, was very helpful in explaining the menu, etc. She checked back frequently to see if we needed anything. We even asked to be moved to another table, and she was very accommodating. Had the fried homemade ravioli as an appetizer, which was delicious! For an appetizer, I would say the portion was small. There were 5 ravioli, which was perfect for 2 people, but may not have been enough for a larger group. I ordered the Figlio Chicken Club, which had very good flavor and very filling. The ""fries"" that come with it were excellent. The Tagliatelle was also a great choice! Overall, a wonderful Valentine's Day dining experience! Thanks, Figlio, and keep up the good work! Pros: Great food, great service, trendy venue, fun atmosphere Cons: None! more

Best Caesar Salad Ever 4/13/2008

A large group of us went to dinner. We went early for happy hour however there was no standing room and this was at 6:00 on a Sunday evening. However, the happy hour specials are really good and the caesar salad there was the best caesar salad I have ever eaten (and I eat caesar salads at almost every restaurant I go to). It had a little kick to it, no overpowering anchovy flavor, I would go back for just this salad it was so delicious. The meatballs were also really tasty, had a zest, you could eat just the happy hour menu for dinner and feel like you've robbed them. It's delicious food for a very reasonable price. Pros: Great happy hour food menu, nice restaurant portion Cons: parking, little standing room in bar and too close to dining area more

Unbeatable Happy Hour 3/21/2008

$2 beers and house wines and select appetizers make the Happy Hour at Figlio's unbeatable. The bar can get packed right at 4 pm when Happy Hour starts during the week, so be prepared to stand against the wall if there are no open stools/tables. Try the mini-burgers with fries or mini-pizzas if you want an appetizer that's filling and yet cheaply priced at $2. You also gotta appreciate their 12-7 pm Happy Hours on both Saturday and Sunday making Figlio's a perfect place to stop in after shopping in Uptown. more

food is great, service is iffy 10/28/2007

All right, I've been a fan of Figlio for years. The food is consistently wonderful, but the service is not. We recently dined here later in the evening. If our server had put as much thought into doing her job as she did her halloween costume, we would have been pleased. I also would have enjoyed my pasta more if I had had a drink. She eventually wandered over to our table and blankly asked ""how are you doing on drinks?"" We hadn't even received them yet (or ice water). We were never offered dessert, or a take away box. And we waited for our check for over 30 minutes. Pros: good food Cons: service, loud, bad music more

Good food and service 6/27/2007

We walked in at alittle after midnight. Pros: service, atmosphere (romantic) Cons: price more

Great food, great location 11/21/2006

In the heart of Uptown this place is great for people watching - sit on the sidewalk in the summer. They also have great seasonal menu items like pumpkin ravioli and butternut squash bisque. Great happy hour specials too! more

Go for happy hour, stay for dinner :) 11/19/2006

Best happy hour deals in Uptown, only rivaled to Chino Latino's :) A very extensive dinner menu, lots of unique dishes. There's outdoor seating during warmer seasons. If you don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on dinner, order off the happy hour menu in the bar (huge portions!) It's usually a packed crowd during happy hour, but the staff is so friendly & prompt, you would never know they are busy. The dinner menu has lots of variety... & the food is always exceptional. Pros: Huge menu, friendly staff, excellent happy hour specials more

Now THIS is the Figlio that I know and LOVE 10/19/2006

I wrote a review of Figlio back in 2002. It was ruthlessly true on all accounts- but NOW- in 2006 I'm here to write a new review, one that drips so heavily with honey that you should well take note. FIGLIO IS BACK! It freakin' ROX!. I'm guessing that the former problems that I had with Figlio had every thing to do with bad management choices. With a new man in charge- Rex- Figlio is it's old, lovable, savvy diner respecting, self again. I don't know Rex's last name but I do know that at one point he was the head chef- and a damn good one. This man loves good food and the menu, that I gave a second chance too, CLEARLY revealed to me Rex's passion for food. BRAVO! I asked the waitstaff about the man and learned that Rex is also a great fisherman. I felt that the menu ALSO reflected this with it's WONDEROUS treatments of Salmon and white, flaky, kick *ss fish. YUM! I LOVE fish and I LOVE the way Figlio cooks it. The Salmon small plate is a must have with me whenever I'm Uptown now. Pros: Fantastic Food Cons: Loud and crowded, small tables more

$2 Happy Hour!!! 7/24/2006

I love this place!!! During happy hour its way too busy, but at their prices its worth it- $2 menu. I love their $2 mini burgers and $2 top shelf beers. Go- but go early if you want to sit. They have a great dining room and menu if you dont want to deal with the crowded bar (but no happy hour prices). Pros: Food, Drinks, Service Cons: Parking more

Great atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food! 6/29/2006

We ventured out to find something new and non-chainish for dinner last night, and were more than pleasantly surprised by the experience. Everything we tried was outstanding and the server was super patient with my indecisiveness, suggesting a couple of different options and helping me figure out exactly what would be the perfect entree for the evening. Pros: Great atmosphere, delicious food Cons: No parking validation more

User review by rate 8/28/2005

Figlio's used to be one of my favorite places to dine at. The food has changed from good to below average. I've given the restaurant 3 last chances, thinking maybe it was an off night. I'm sorry to say it seems to be the norm. The seafood has been fishy tasting and smelling. The chicken has a grey color to it with a bad aftertaste. At $50.00 for a light dinner, I'm definitely not spending my hard earned money there any more. more

Our favorite spot 8/9/2005

Were married & over 30. You can keep hip-trendy w/ indifferent service, thank you. Figilos is our favorite restaurant. We go there roughly once a month. The saliciccia pizza and the garlic pasta are always popular. Prices are fine -- theres always a few entrees at the $10 point, including the huge bacon-cheese burger with rosemary fries (a fave!) with prices up to the mid-$20s or so. Short wait times, generally we head there anytime were looking at the dinner rush everywhere else. Menu isn't real deep (15-20 items?), but they do rotate 3-4 items every day; we've always found new items each time, and theyve generally been very good. The service has been fine-to-good, the complementary bread w/ hummus always evaporates within a matter of minutes, and weve always found something delicious to inhale for dessert esp. the tortufallos or the crostada w/ cinnamon ice cream. Pros: love the food, short waits Cons: dining room noise, some crowding, parking more

At best, not great 6/15/2005

Pro: Open late. The food took a long time to come - some kitchen snafu. The pizza tasted good, although it was soggy and hard to cut. The tuna burger wasn't bad. The fries that came with it were too greasy and soggy. Our first server took our order, said she was off, and that we'd have someone else the rest of the evening. The next server wasn't great either. When she brought the pizza for us to share, she didn't bring plates. Plate clearing was equally bad. I had one plate removed without my knowledge, before I was done. One other person at my table was asked if he wanted his plate cleared while he was actively involved in eating from it. Getting in and out is hard if you don't like smoke, because the entire sidewalk and entry way area is filled with people smoking. Pros: Open late, Vegetarian friendly Cons: Mediocre food, Bad service, Too loud more

Improved 10/29/2004

Figlio's used to be our favorite restaurant until it went down the tubes in service and food, see my negative review was removed After not returning to Figlios for a year due to poor food and mediocre service the last visit, we were pleasantly surprised to find the fare vastly improved. The bread is served with a nice spicy arrabiato sauce, with a good kick. The wait staffs were very pleasant and efficient. The two dishes we received were so hot and fresh as to almost burn the tongue. We had the portabello cannelloni and the pollo matone. The cannelloni were so flavorful that your eyes rolled back into your head with pleasure. The chicken in the other dish was so tender that you had to make sure it wasn't a fish fillet you were biting into. We now plan to make Figlios once again one of our favorite restaurants. Pros: Service, Food more

$2 Bucks 9/28/2004

Theres added competition now to the $2 happy hour but its creator in Uptown is still the ruler. Two bucks is the price for either a pint, a glass of house red or white, or a small but tasty mini-appetizer. If you can manage to elbow your way to a table seat in the lower bar, and add a few friends, its sure to bring people-watching beer-buzzing fun. This has to be my favorite bar, and the several times Ive had dinner in the restaurant, the food and service has been top-notch. I highly recommend you check it out. Pros: Uh... Happy Hour, And Happy Hour, ... and... happy hour more

Excellent food 8/23/2004

Love the location and the atmosphere. Had a pasta dish which was my favorite thing I have ever eaten. I've been there 3 times this past year and love it. Interesting design/layout. Cool bar area, especially when the windows/doors/walls are open to Lake St. Highly recommened. Park at Calhoun Square, or try to get a spot in the street Pros: Food, Ambience more

Favorite Restaurant 3/28/2004

Figlio is my favorite restaurant! The food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful so it results in an all-around pleasant dining experience. Reservations are a good idea on weekends, but despite the other reviewer's experience, I've never had to wait when I had a reservation! It can get a little cramped when it's crowded, so it's not ideal if you want to be alone, but I enjoy making new friends! more

Soft menu!! 3/12/2004

Love it! Figlio has now gone to a soft menu. And its brilliant. It opens the restaurant up to great, new, inventive ideas with food. The food has always been great and it has just gotten better!! Great atmosphere, especially during the week. Great mix of the local crowd. You've gotta check out the $2 happy hour. I've always had great service. Pros: Great food, Consistant service, People watching Cons: , Often busy more
