Incredibly Disappointing 2/10/2011

Incredibly disappointed. I've been there several times because the restaurant is close to my house. Accidentally left my wallet in restroom and went back to find all of my $200 in cash was stolen. Only two other couples were there who the owners said were long term patrons and completely trusted. I was one of last to leave and only other possible person who stole from me is an employee who cleaned the bathroom. They wouldn't question anyone and still charged me for my meal. BEWARE!!! more

Quality Italian restaurant in Medford 10/23/2010

Although I haven't been back in a while, this restaurant is worth reviewing. I thought the food was well prepared and served quite generously. Staff was a bit lacking in the personality department, but that didn't distract me from my meal. Drinks were very well done. I don't go here often because of the price; they are a bit pricey. Regardless, it is a very pleasant restaurant with a appealing menu. Just don't sit too close to the front door. more

Wonderfully delicious food, warm, welcoming staff, a great place to dine! 7/18/2007

The food was wonderful...basket of bread delicious with the flavored EVOO for dipping was absolutely delicious! The mixed salad that came with the steak dinner we ordered was delicious too, with a very light dressing. And the steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly too - and oh so tender! Tiramisu for dessert to die for... and lighter than most I've had. We also had the asparagus with a light sauce (don't know what it was) but it was delicious. Maria, the hostess was very welcoming, and our waiter was wonderful, and the chef came out to see if we enjoyed everything... and he was so sweet. I'm now telling all my friends about this place and I'm sure they will come. Pros: Easy street parking - great service Cons: can't think of any more

Not worth it 1/20/2007

We waited an hour and a half from sitting down until our meals arrived. When a pasta dish costs $15 and is uninspired (gnocchi that was billed as being prepared w/basil was served w/ only a few flakes from a seasoning shaker), the wait was all the more disappointing. The mozeralla and tomatoes served in the caprese salad were flavorless. (The bruchetta however was delicious and the waiter kindly made sure that enough of the appetizers were on the plate for each one of us at the table.) The waiter's frequent apologies were appreciated but when we suggested that we should be comp'd for our lengthy wait, he wasn't willing to accomodate. more

Maybe it used to be better? Way too pricy for below-average food. 9/14/2006

I drive by here every day and finally decided to try it out. Big mistake. My roommates and I were suckered into a $33 antipasto platter that had three slices each of supermarket-quality mortadella and prosciutto and even worse salami with calamari that tasted like it was made by somebody who specializes in over-breaded onion rings. The squid itself was fresh, but was ruined by the preparation. Based on the only other review here, I ordered the veal saltimbocca. It was barely edible! I also tried a sausage-based fusilli special. Just barely better. The meal came to about $40/person with no drinks. If you want to spend that kind of money, go to the North End or to Antonia's in Davis. At least you'll get your money's worth! Pros: not many. friendly service and convenient location? Cons: bad food, overpriced more

great place 11/7/2005

Have been to Il Faro several times and have had consistently good meals. Very good service as well. I recommend any veal dish. The decor could use some work... the blinking lighthouse on the wall is a little tacky. I did learn that ""il faro"" is Italian for lighthouse, though! more

FABULOUS! 6/1/2004

My Husband and I met at this resturant for our first date and have been going back ever since!!! The food is unmatched! The service is warm and receptive. The prices do make this a special occaision resturant, so we are only there 6 time sa year. But they still remember us and are very friendly! We love coming to this place, and highly recommend it to everyone we meet! Pros: Great Atmophere, Fabulous food, Wonderful service more

surprising find! 8/10/2002

My wife and I were looking for someplace we hadn't been previously, and I thought, ""what about that place I go by every day""? So, we went. Here's the results: the food was fantastic. We left there total converts. The wait staff was appropriately low-key and ""hovering"". This is the kind of place where there're lots of older people dining. The restaurant is one of those ""institutions"", I think. However, I don't know if they advertise much. They totally should. The pricing is such that it's more of a special occasion restaurant rather than an everyday kind of place, at least for me. But, in any case, go there. Pros: awesome food, attentive staff, closish parking more
