The place may not be much but the food is excellent! This is a husband-wife team.The menu provides you with the common cooked Japanese dishes at a great price. All are freshly cooked to order so be sure to have time to dine. I highly recommend the spicy beef served on a bed of fresh vegetables. You'll crave it for days after trying it. I usually order one to go for the next days' craving. Be sure to ask what kind of ice cream they have, it complements the meal nicely. more

The sake was actually really hot, which is how it should be served and often not the case in Seattle restaurants. If your in the mood for comfort food in an informal and friendly environment, Ichiban is a great place. They do not have sushi. Pros: Friendly, informal and good food. Cons: Not a fancy place more

A friend and I stopped by the Ichiban on a whim during our vacation this Spring. The discreet, non-assuming establishment looked like it could be neighborhood restaurant in Japan, which warranted comment from my companion that "it looks like the place you would go for beer and chicken wings". The menu is somewhat homogenous, mostly meat dishes served on lightly vinegared rice, but much to our surprise, the meals were exceptional! The dishes were delicious as well as filling, the service was friendly and attentive and the bill was small. Very good lunchtime dining experience.
