Mediocre buffet without the control of a traditional buffet 12/26/2009

My parents took us here for dinner. The buffet is 15.99. You order from a slip of paper, which is theoretically good, but you have no sense of the portions until the plates arrive - they're very small. Shrimp tempura is two-three shrimp. We order from all of the sections, and none of the food was great. The Miso Soup was watery; the noodles oily; the tempura came with no dipping sauce; the beef was rubbery - both the hibachi and teriyaki (we didn't order any chicken), and the sushi, for the most part, was all rice. And you'd better eat everything, because the menu contains a caveat warning that any food left after you are done will be added to the bill. I don't know how exactly they figure that out - do they count individual noodles? The high point: there are huge televisions on the walls, so if your family or dinner guest gets boring or long-winded you have a diversion. Pros: You leave very full Cons: It's not a good full more

Not that great 8/18/2009

This is the second time I have been to this restaurant, both times I went alone, this second time it was terrible.\r I am a pretty big tipper being an ex waitress years ago, but either the service is always very poor, (from another review i read here) or because I was alone the waitress didn't see any big bucks coming her way. I had to wait forever for her to take the sheet of paper that Ihad to check mark off for the buffet. While she took care of the larger table that came in after me......The sushi rolls were mushy, not too fresh and all tasted the same. The nouri was rubbery. It all came back to me of my first visit. Mushi sushi. The house salad is just iceberg lettuce and the ginger dressing seemed more like thousand island dressing to me. No taste. I think the young immaturity of the staff is the reason for the poor quality service. I will never return to this placeagain. I will not reccommend it to any one. Pros: decor is nice Cons: service is terrible, food quality is low more

Bad Experience! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND 7/12/2009

I was very disappointed at Ichiban not only about their food but also their services. I feel like I'm BEGGING for food when I'm PAYING for it. Let's first discuss about their services.\r My friend, siblings, and I (6 people) went to Ichiban for their buffet dinner. When we put our first two order in for their sushi and sashimis, we only got half of our order. It is not until we point that out that it was corrected. We then placed another order in since the food was INSUFFICIENT, that order was never fulfilled. We waited for 1/2 hour and there was no food, so I placed in another order in and waited another 1/2 hour and again there were no food. I found this was odd, so I asked my server to check on that order, but she never returned with a response. Finally, I placed the last order in with sushi rolls and desert, only deserts came out but not the sushi rolls. I then asked my server again to check on the order, but she again did not return to answer my request. My friends, siblings and I have had it and asked for the bill. When the bill came out they automatically added 18% gratuities on a Buffet service when I NEVER got my food! No where on the buffet menu that stated a mandatory 18% gratuities requires. Not only that, the receipt says that the gratuities was an OPTIONAL. When we asked for the 18% gratuities to be taken off from my bill where I will then give an appropriate gratuities, my server says no, she has no authority to do so. She also NEGOTIATED with us for a 15% gratuites! When we asked to speak to a manager or someone who can take care of our problem, our server said ""she is not here"" and went away, avoiding us. I waited for 30 minutes without services, without apologies, and without an answer to my problem. Their services end after we placed our first two order, which we waited 1.5 hours before we get our food. I feel like I paid $120 for deserts and miso soups. My siblings, friend, and I left the Buffet HUNGRY. Althrough our experiences, Ichiban staff never gave us an apologies. It was sadden me to see a newly restaurant to have such poor services.\r We now will discuss about their food. First off, the miso soup was cold. Their sushi rolls was extremely small compacted primarily with rice rather than fishes. I thought our first order of sashimi was thinly sliced, but the next order was even worst. the slice was so thin that I can see my finger through it, it was almost transparent! I had to ask for extra ginger THREE times before I get the ginger and again it was not enough.... I have to sadly say this is the WORST restaurant I've ever been to, Not only in services but also in food!! With this rough economy combination of poor services, I wish them the best in staying viable. \r \r Needless to say, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone! more

Best Hibachi in Buffalo! 11/14/2008

Last night my wife, daughter and I went to Ichiban to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We have been enjoying hibachi places since the 1970s (when we went to a Benihanas) and this was one of our best experiences!\r The service was good, the chef (Jet) was great and the food was fabulous! I was also impressed with the prices ... for instance, fried rice/noodles were included with the hibachi meal, whereas we have had to pay extra at other spots.\r My daughter got Steak & Chicken, my wife got Chicken & Scallops ($20 each) and I ""splurged"" with Filet Mignon & Scallops ($23!). I think my Filet was done better than any place I have ever had it ... it was juicy and tender and done 'just right!'. Of course, after we all ate, we had to have 3 boxes to take home what we couldn't finish. Did I mention it's a bargain?\r We tried an appetizer (Chicken Tatsuga age) which was a first for us. It was very good. We also had a dessert that was new to us (Mochi); it was fantastic! Three different types of ice cream (we chose green tea, vanilla and mango ... yum!).\r I can't stress enough how great the atmosphere and attitude of the employees were.\r We will most definitely be back .... often!!!\r PB Stetser\r PS: Disclaimer: I am not connected in any way with the ownership or management of this spot ... I just reaaalllllly liked it and want others to know about it! Feel free to email me if you have further questions.\r (StetserFamily dot com) Pros: Prices! Food! Ambiance! Service! Prices!!!!! Cons: cannot think of a single ""con""! more

the best hibachi and sushi 11/12/2008

this is my first time in Ichiban steakhouse, the food was really great and the chef was really funny, eventhought i had been to the one on maple street but i still like ichiban better, cuz the service was better and the chef was better than Kyoto. and when i tried to ask question in kyoto, they didn't understand what i was saying and i didn't understand them either. on the other hand, the servers in ichiban, they talked to us in fluent english and they answered our question perfectly. so i highly recommend Ichiban steathouse. Pros: hibachi chefs more
