OMG I have never been so sick in my life 3/18/2011

Something was squishy about the spicy tuna handroll but I had no idea i was in for an overnight stay in the emergency room that night. They've been closed for roaches. I hope they clean up their act before you eat there. more

decent sushi 8/5/2009

I love me some sushi! This place was just okay for me, though the staff was very, very nice. I ordered the tiger eye i think it was called, and it was not quite up to my standards. i also ordered a philly roll, which was good, but those are hard to mess up. My wife ordered some sashimi, she said it was edible, but she definately not what we would call excellent. Over all if you are in the area its a great place to stop in for lunch , they have some specials. But if you are looking for some seriously good sushi, check out Slow Fish in HB- Amazing!! Pros: great service Cons: some of the fish was iffy more

Very good for the price 8/4/2007

I've been in OC for almost 8 years and have avoided this place simply because of its name. Thought it was another one of those wanna-be sushi places catering to the not-so-sensitized palate. After getting a few recommendations from J-food connoisseurs, I decided to try it out. Brought my folks too. Sashimi was fresh. We had yellowtail, salmon, sweet shrimp and tuna (they were out of toro). Not the best tasting sashimi I've ever had, but for the price, it's worth it. $9 gets you 6 pcs of thick sashimi. We also ordered a lunch combo of tempura and yellowtail collar. Which were very tasty. Even came with miso soup and rice. All that for $8. The table next to us ordered mixed sashimi, and looked very good. Will try next time. Will also try their chirashi next. Pros: best value more

Great rolls, and delicious udon 3/2/2007

I have grown up on delicious sushi, and was hard pressed finding my ""own"" sushi place. I Love Sushi is that place. The sashimi was good, although not spectacular, but they have delicious tempura udon and mouth watering rolls. I like the fact that I can order any roll that I want, and the waitresses know what the roll is. There is something to be said about having japanese servers in a japanese restaurant. I have been to sushi places that have no udon, or the sushi chefs have no idea what a futomaki is. Huh? Great sushi, and delicious udon. They could have a wider array of sake and perhaps a little soju as well. more

Amazing Sushi, Great Price 12/31/2006

I decided to try I Love Sushi from reading the rave reviews on CitySearch. I had been looking for a great quality sushi place to take my boyfriend (who had never tried sushi) but wanted the price to be reasonable. We decided to try I Love Sushi and had an awesome experience! We sat at the sushi bar and chit-chatted with the sushi chef and got a great recommendation from a local sitting next to us. Try the Toyota Roll, it's truly delicious and something a little different (it's wrapped in soy paper with lettuce and also tempura shrimp in the center). After our first visit, I have been back many times and have never been disappointed. The tempura appetizer is especially good and the sushi, sashimi, and rolls are second to none. What's great about this place is that the sushi is such high quality and really fun and interesting yet the price is just right. GO HERE! You won't be disappointed. Pros: Great sushi, reasonable prices, fun atmosphere Cons: small place, make reservations if on a busy night more

Sushi Bar was Fantastic! 10/26/2006

I went to this restaurant for the first time and I loved it...we sat at the sushi bar and I tried the crunchy roll, california roll, shrimp roll and the philidelphia roll. mmm they were all sooo good and the chef was very funny. Very reasonably priced, service was a bit slow, but that's to be expected at most sushi bars. They have awesome crunchy rolls! I left stuffed and I will definitely be back. Pros: Good crowd, good sushi, fair prices. Cons: A bit slow, crowded on the weekend nights. more

great sushi, packed on friday after 7:00 6/12/2006

I realy liked this place, the wait was a little long on fridays. There was a hip and trendy crowd to hang out with in the lobby. they have a verry good selection of sushi like live prawns, how's that for fresh, they also have alot of cooked dishes for those of you who dont like raw fish. the atmosphear was verry cool verry traditional with a touch of modern slapped in. a verry eclectic beer and saki selection made this place that mutch better. Pros: good food Cons: the wait, its a verry popular place. more

Good for non-sushi lovers too! 5/7/2006

In addition to the good sushi, they have some amazing hot dishes here. It's a good compromise for my friend that hates sushi, as he will always come for the teriyaki, baked avocado and baked scallop dishes. Pros: Yummy food, Usually not too busy Cons: Service at tables more

Great Sushi 4/24/2006

We've been going for about a year and the sushi is always amazing. It's so good in fact that we put up with some of the worst service ever in order to eat there. Go with paitence, leave full. Pros: Sushi, Diverse Menu Cons: SERVICE! more

bad sushi...good food 11/29/2005

i've been eating at I Love Sushi for over a year now and the sushi still isn't any better. the first time i went there the ahi tuna was disgusting i'm sorry to say. however the second time around i skipped the ahi and went for albacore and other sashimi...those turned out fine. what i truly recommend though is the two item combo. my personal favorite is the oysters and steak teriyaki. the steak teriyaki is the only reason that has me coming back again and again. if you like a super-rare steak...this is one of the few places that will get it right. Pros: inexpensive, prompt seating, good steak Cons: BAD tuna, slow service more

Worst service 11/10/2005

I ahve been going to I love sushi for 5 years. And everytime I cant sit at the sushi bar I have to sit at the tables. The service at the tables are extremely horrible. The service and the waiters and waitresses are extrmely rude and slow.. I finally stop goign there because of the service... One tiem it took 1 hour to get a roll a roll taht is it.. A rainbow roll. one hour and all they said was they were busy no apologies. so beware of I lov esushi and there service. There are many places where you can get both good service and good sushi more

One of OC's Best Sushi Bars 3/25/2005

I go to this sushi bar at least once a month. The sushi is always fresh. That's the most important thing. My favorite sushi chef is Hide and they have some pretty nice looking waitresses too! Value is there. I've been taking customers there for the last 3 months and they all seem to like it. more

Great sushi! 7/7/2004

This is my favorite sushi restaurant period. I worked out in the OC for 2 years and ate there all the time. My boss introduced me to this place and it instantly became the place have lunch. I now live and work in LA but still make the drive out there often because you cant beat the sushi, and you especially cant beat the prices. The fish is so fresh even non-sushi aficionados will be able to taste the difference. This place is not exactly the type of restaurant you would take a date to impress him/her because of the casual atmosphere and its located in a strip mall type setting. If youre like me, and only care about the quality of the fish, this place will definitely become one of your favorites also. Pros: casual, inexpensive, good people more

My favorite sushi bar! 6/25/2002

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place, being too lazy to drive to Laguna Beach. It has become my most favorite sushi bar in LA. The people are wonderful, and I always meet new people when I'm there. The food is excellent - get the spicy crunchy tuna roll!! With ponzhu!! Make sure you get ""Jerry"" as your chef. Low, low prices and excellent sushi...don't be afraid of the strip mall location and the questionable name! I would drive any length to eat here when I get the craving for sushi. Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly, Delicious Cons: Busy, Strip mall more
