Best

I had a pulled pork sandwich that reminded me of back home. Good sauce and tasty pork.

Worst

I have eaten here off and on for the past 4 years, I am from Texas and have a good idea of BBQ, I travel quite abit so I get east coast, St. Lois, Dirty south and west coast BBQ. ...

Pretty good outside of georgia 8/7/2009

BBQ as good as it gets 7/5/2009

Anyone that doesn't like this place probably doesn't like BBQ. I'm originally from North Carolina and I'd fight my grandmother over this stuff. It'll make your tongue knock your brains out just to get another bite. Sure wish they would open a place in San Diego. Pros: Excellent BBQ in Hollywood Cons: Needs a branch in San Diego more

Awesome BBQ 4/11/2009

This place is small but has really good BBQ. It's the best in the Hollywood area. The Sandwiches are my favorites, the beans are really good, the mac salad is good, the potato salad is good and even the pies are good. Next thing will be the ribs, my boyfriend says they too are good. Pros: Great BBQ Sandwiches Cons: small dining area more

Delicious ribs and sauce! Fries need some work and so does the cole slaw. Everything else was excellent. more

Very good eats. 5/27/2008

I've traveled through some of the so-called ""BBQ states"" like North Carolina, Texas, Missouri, and I found that the food is pretty good there. However, many of the places in those states were serious junk. The food at Houston's was just as good as any of the decent places I went to, and in many cases, even better. Those people who are looking to for ""real BBQ"" or claim to know the authentic stuff, remind me of those New Yorkers that claim their pizza is the best, even though I've had far better New York -style pizza in L.A., compared to the pizza in Manhattan (maybe outside of manhattan it's better, to be fair). For the price you can't beat this place with a stick. Also, in a happening place in Hollywood. Their sandwiches are awesome and they have home-made chili, that is nothing like the junk they top your fries with at Der Wienershcnitzel. If you're used to that kind of junk, then yeah maybe this place isn't for you. Otherwise, I give it an A minus. Pros: Good food, good price. Cons: Need some corn-on-the-cob. more

Poor BBQ 5/19/2008

I have eaten here off and on for the past 4 years, I am from Texas and have a good idea of BBQ, I travel quite abit so I get east coast, St. Lois, Dirty south and west coast BBQ. I feel Hustons is to BBQ what a Burger King taco is to true cuisine, a pale comparison at best. BBQ is not any meat with BBQ sauce on it, its a method of cooking, otherwise get a slice of bologne and drip bbq sauce on it and open a resteraunt. Pros: If your starving its there Cons: Poor service, expensive for the quality. more

Are we talking about the same restaurant? 11/1/2007

I was in the mood for barbecue, and, reading the great reviews here on citysearch thought I'd give the place a try. I don't know if this was just a bad day or what, but the eating area was completely filthy, and the food wasn't good. The meat was gristly and fatty (i had beef ribs, which I gave up even trying to eat about 1/2 way through the meal) and the sides (potato salad/cole slaw) both had a weird metallic taste to them. Total waste of money. more

Excellent Barbeque! 4/16/2007

I am from the South and miss the bbq there! Houstons is awesome. Definitely not a fancy place, but the food I recommend. I had a party catered by them and they delivered it promptly. Try it! more

Grungy Hip BBQ 2/3/2007

Great ribs. The Smokey burger is delicious. There is also a really cool vintage furniture store, The Junk Market, a block south on Selma. Pros: Good tasty food in grungy unpretentously cool spot Cons: Macaroni side could be better more

Great sandwiches 6/14/2006

They have a great pulled pork sandwich. The potato salad is great also. Prices are reasonable.\r The parking lot is used for valet at night, you can park there anyway...for free. Pros: Great Food...Yummmmm Cons: A little dumpy more

Great food. No pretense. 9/6/2005

In a city where good barbecue is in short supply, Huston's is an oasis of great food. Essentially situated in a parking lot between Velvet Margarita and the former-headshot-former-sex-shop space to its north, Huston's serves up unpretentious food in equally unassuming digs. The chicken is great, the chili is great, and everything is piping hot. Portions are solid and service is solid. If you're longing for good barbecue, Huston's is your place. Pros: Great food, Good prices more

Mmmm BBQ 3/11/2005

Though the ambience may not be fancy, the food more then makes up for it. The BBQ chicken sandwich is so good it might short out the pleasure centers of your brain. I also had great potato salad. I can't wait to go back and try more of their BBQ or perhaps some chili. more

Yummy! 6/5/2002

The barbeque sandwiches are all delicious here, but I wish they had more side options. I know it's not Kizzy's or anything, but if they had collard greens I would be in seventh heaven. That would be the perfect compliment to all the tasty BBQ sauce. Otherwise, they've got a good thing going for very reasonable prices. Can't argue with that! Pros: great food, good service Cons: need more sides more
