Who should drink more, patron or owner? 10/9/2007

i began going to Hudson's about 6 months ago. I'm reserved and quiet ,so i tend to observe my environment. At first it was pleasing: bar service no complaints, the girls are hot and friendly, the food was but a bit pricey for the quality. Just like a bi- polar person, this place went from one extreme to the next. As i continued to dine at Hudson's i noticed a severe change in the staff's attitudes. Not toward the customers but rather the establishment itself and the owners. just recently i witnessed the owner or a owner get completely bombed at his bar and treat both female bartenders with such disrespect . i felt completely uncomfortable and sorry for the poor girls. The owner was screaming for his drinks and being belligerent, thats when i left because i was about to give this northerner a good old fashion southern butt whooping!!!!' Pros: Eye Candy Cons: not enough nose candy sold at the bar! more

The last time I will go to Hudson's 9/28/2007

Wow, I dont really know where to start. We ate dinner there on Wednesday with 2 friends and sat at the oyster bar. Neither server was friendly at all, it was like we were a burden on them for eating at their restaurant. I ordered the oysters which were half price from 4-7. Well now I know why they are half price, because the flavor was horrible. They were some of the worst oysters I have ever had. My wife had one of the seafood platters and she thought it was good, but nothing over the top. Pros: They have nice TV's. Cons: Service, food, atmosphere more

Great Date.....Good Food 9/25/2007

We went this past monday night....there was only about 10 other people there, if that.....It was 50 cents oyster night...so we enjoyed that.....There was only 1 server behind the oyster bar...so service was a little on the slow side....but he apologized for it repeatedly...and he was funny....and we didn't really mind....it gave us more time to watch the game that was on and enjoy the few date nights we actually get being so busy.....The oysters were good....it's not really 'in season' so they weren't gigantic, but i don't like it too big anyway....My husband had the fried seafood platter...the breading was a little bland, but there were two sauces to pick from....and it was a good bit of food too....I had the seafood newberg pasta.....very good....i get scared to order pasta out because it always ends up bland, but this was filled with flavor......oh, and from reading all the bad reviews....i was a little nervous using the gift certificate i bought from zspotlight for 1/2 price....but when i presented it....it was no problem.....our bill was $55.....we had 2 dozen oysters, a house salad, 2 entrees previously mentioned, a soda and a sweet tea.....All that for $55?? It was wonderful....Only the difference of $15 was charged to our card after the $40 certificate...and we tipped our server cash.......It's not a high class five star restaurant with 'stepford wives' type servers.....but its a good intimate date spot for seafood lovers...... Pros: 50 cent oysters!! Cons: ambience is a little drab/depressing.... more

All around great place to dine and relax 8/15/2007

All I can say is WOW! Finally a place you can take your family and enjoy great food and hospitality. Ed and his staff are great. My wife and I eat there at least once a week and since they have opened we have never walked away empty or unhappy. The food is perfect! I recomend the Ahi Tuna! YUM!!!! If you are not into the fish thing, then the Hudson Burger is awsome as well. I think I have tried about 75% of there menu and I can't say that anything I have had I was unhappy about ordering. I highly recommend any body of all ages to eat, drink, and be merry at Hudson's Oyster Bar and Grill! Keep up the good work and I will see you soon!! Pros: Great staff and great food Cons: non at all more

Best food around! 8/10/2007

We do like to go out to eat! we are always trying new places. Good pizza, steaks, seafood etc. Pros: Food ALWAYS GREAT more

I will never go back to that restaurant! 8/8/2007

Our service was horrible. At first there were only 5 customers in the whole building and the one bar tender that was at the oyster bar did not check on us once. I was so disappointed at the food as well. We spent 70 dollars for a well done steak that we ordered medium rare, and oysters that I had to wait 20 minutes for after my date had gotten his steak. Then I go to there website to see if there is a contact email. Nothing there. I really wanted to send them some feedback, but calling is too personal. The ""live music"" they had playing were really noisy setting up for an ""hour""! RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE I WAS EATING. And to top it all off, they cut the air conditioning off when it had been 102 degrees outside. I really couldn't even stand to eat my food. If I am going to pay almost 100 dollars for a meal, I want to be able to eat it in an air conditioned room. Are you telling me that they can charge that much for a meal but cannot afford air? more

Great food, great service. 7/23/2007

We had a meal here last Friday night, July 20th. On walking in we were pleasantly greeted and immeadiately seated at a nice corner table. Our waitress, Michelle, was very professional and helpfull in describing the special dishes on the menu that night and making helpfull suggestions. Our seafood was delicious and piping hot. Our dishes had obviously come straight from the kitchen without delay. Pros: Great food, Great service more

Great Customer Service 7/19/2007

My girlfriend and I had dinner last Friday night at Hudson's. We were greeted professionally at the door with a smile and hello. The food was awsome and the server was excellent...can't remember her name but pretty brunette!!! She took the time to tell us all the food and drink specials and where the oysters we had for our appetizer came from. By the way....The best oysters in Raleigh!!! Great experience and we will be back....Thanks Hudson's. Pros: Will definitely be back Cons: 0 more

Mystery meat in Lasagna! 7/15/2007

It was in fact bologna in the lasagna, but what no one has mentioned is that it also had cut up hot dogs for the meat substitute! If you don't know how bologna and hot dogs are made you should google it! Pros: ummm, no Cons: yes! more

42nd st Oyster Bar completely outclasses this place! 7/15/2007

This establishment had the lowest rating of any restaurant in Raleigh by almost 3 full stars! (according to last weeks paper) If you are looking for great oysters, great atmosphere, live bands, and classy people then 42nd St. is the place that you need to go! Now if you like spinsters, toothless men, bad food, and a really expensive bill, then this place is for you! Cons: plethora more

What a five star establishment! 6/25/2007

The only person I would bring to eat here is my ex-husband's divorce atty! I have never in my life been inside an unhappier place than this. The staff was unfriendly from the beginning to the end! Our entire tables food came out cold and old looking as if it had sat under those hot lights in the back for an hour. I didnt even touch my plate which angered me to think about hard money that I just basically flushed. We tried to voice our opionion's to someone claiming he was the owner( salt and peppered hair) what a waste of time that was. After a conversation with this gentleman I understood two things. 1) Why the staff was so miserably unfriendly! 2) Why, at almost the age of 65, this owner didnt have a marriage band on! Hudson's, pack up and go back north! more

Whadafuxup? 6/20/2007

I have seen(not tasted) the free ""bologna lasagna"" and besides the obvious WTF! I will say it brings back those warm and fuzzy feelings of ""da getto""! more

I would give this place 2 1/2 stars 6/18/2007

Service was ok, the food was ok, the atmosphere was ok, but not one thing really knocked my socks off. I truly wouldnt make this place my ""datenight"" but probably would stop in for a lunch, but not a quick lunch. I also wouldnt bring my children back to this place with the focal eye point being a bar. Yes, they do have a gameroom but from what my 11 yr old says is that the games are all outdated and not a lot to choose from. Also, there was a little bit of trouble with the game systems taking quarters. Pros: close to my errands Cons: did not have restaurant feel, more bar feel more

Yes, pay in CASH! 6/15/2007

Dont usually like to become the ""bus driver"" but definately have to agree with SC0008. The worst thing is not the headache though, its not being able to get your hard earned money back! And if memory serves me correct Gino is no longer the owner. Pros: they accept cash more

Pay in cash.....!!!! 6/15/2007

If your like me and do not like to carry cash and would rather use plastic, make sure you check your acct. to be certain that the tip you left is the tip that was charged to your acct. The headache this has caused me.....!!!!! Seems that Gino just changed the name! more

Sunday night free food! I think not.... 6/15/2007

I am not one to say that I know everything about cooking! Last time I checked my name was Jason and not ""Emrill"" the famous chef! But growing up in a houshold w/ a mother that loved home cooked meals I can say that I do know a thing or two. I was drawn in by the advertisement of free food and dancing, hey who wouldnt be right! As I slowly started to stuff my face w/ the free lasagna, I noticed something quite different than any lasagna I have ever tasted! The good people at Hudson's use bologna for meat substitute! Yes, this place is very classy! Definately a five star Manhatten type restaurant! Cons: too many more

Great seafood experience 6/14/2007

We arrived early on a Friday evening for our reservation, but were seated promptly. The service could not have been better and the oysters were some of the best I've tasted. This place has a fun ""Manhattan Bar / Restaurant"" feel to it, whivch is saying something in Raleigh. We'll certainly be back Pros: Great food, service and atmosphere more

Whats up with the oysters? 6/8/2007

Got 2 pecks and not one oyster was bigger than almost a quarter? Wasnt to happy! There are better Oyster bars in Raleigh, would recomend sticking to those. Pros: close to home Cons: unfriendly atmosphere, not very welcoming more

Hudson's Oyster Bar, Literally??? 6/7/2007

I walked in and suddenly found myself confused! Did I bring my family to a restaurant or a strip mall bar? Did we wait to be seated or did we help ourselves? By the end of our meal I was able to answer the previously asked question. I was in fact in a strip mall bar! The service was lousy the food was terrible not to mention the background was filled w/ live karaoke. At almost 100$ this is no place to waste that kind of money on a nice relaxing family dinner! And dont get me started on the portions although Im thankful I didnt waste more food! My only question to management/owner would be do you actually get most of your food from the Hudson? Pros: good parking, the lot was empty more

Worst Oyster Bar in Raleigh 6/6/2007

Poor Hudson's, is still trying to find its place in Raleigh. I was in Hudson's not too long ago and I had won a gift certificate from one of there trivia nights. I tried to use the gift cert that tues night, but I was told you couldn't use it until next visit. So....I came in that following tues because I really enjoyed the bartender, Erin, who is always so friendly with everyone! At the end of the evening I gave Erin my gift cert, value $20.00, my tab was 16.99, I wanted to give the rest of the money to Erin as a tip, but I was told by the owner that we were not allowed to get cash back from the gift cert, but that we would have had to use the whole thing or we would have to take a loss. I have never heard of such a thing in my life. I had no cash on me and I did not want to stiff Erin beacuse she is so great. This really upset me and I argued with the owner for a minute about it, but he was very hard headed, wouldn't even give me a credit for the 4.00 in gift cert form. This must be how they are staying afloat, steeling from the customer and there employees! I have not been back since, other than to bring the bartender her rightfully deserved tip! Pros: ? more
