Great neighborhood brunch 6/1/2010

I have been coming to Hudson Place for years and its a great understated neighborhood spot. Typically we come here for brunch and they have a great variety of breakfast and lunch options. My favorite item on their menu is their burger which always hits the spot. Their french toast is pretty yummy as well. The service can be hit or miss, but the food is solid and despite the location, its a nice, low-key dining option. Pros: brunch, burger Cons: hit and miss service more

Great restaurant in the neighorhood 11/2/2009

This is my neighborhood restaurant. From the management to the wait staff, Hudson Place is my favorite in my neighborhood. I have been coming to this restaurant for over a decade. I would have business lunch here, or having a drink after work, or having family celebrations. We are extremely happy every time we eat here. Hudson Place offers a great variety of food on their menu, whether it is a salad, or pasta, or burger, or fish, or even BBQ ribs, they have them. Recently, the restaurant went through a new renovation, it is even better. I also appreciate the fact that rather than slipping take out menu under our doors, Hudson Place spends money to mail their takeout menu to the neighborhood. A very considerate neighborhood business indeed. Oh I forget to mention the great desserts. :-) Pros: Good portions, great variety, comfortable atmosphere Cons: No parking, hahaha more

Haven't had bad food like this in while... 10/2/2009

Is spinach tortellini that hard to make! Apparently for Hudson Place it is, because I swear that what I ordered must have been bought frozen from Costco. It was dry and cakey and salty. The bread before the meal was stale and the vodka sauce that the pasta came in had no hint of the vodka creamy flavor it should have. Service was also really lacking, the waitress rolled her eyes at me and stormed away when I told her I wasn't going to eat my pasta (mind you I didn't complain, she came to ask why it was just sitting there). I have to give them credit, they did not charge me for the dish. But really, skip the dinner at this place. Pros: Atmosphere's ok Cons: Service, Food more

Dumbest management in town. 4/1/2008

First of all, the food is Ok, the portions quite generous and the prices very fair. A nice neighborhood restaurant. Pros: Food is OK, generous portions, fair prices Cons: Apalling customer service more

Great brunch 2/22/2008

Came here a few times for brunch and it was fabulous. The portions are so large my best friend and I actually split and still walk out full. The mimosas are great- not made with the cheap oj from concentrate. And service has always been very attentive as well. Its a Sunday favorite for me. Its usually pretty empty early but tends to fill up quickly around 1-2ish. Pros: Good food, large portions, friendly service Cons: no free mimosa with your meal. haha more

Not the best.. 2/9/2008

I work around this restaurant and after walking by it numerous times I decided to go in with my fiance. It was not the best, it was not the worst, it was not average. I would say this place is below average. The food was below average, the service was below average. Don?t think I would revisit this place again. more

Good for fasting vegetarians who have LOTS of time to wait for their salad 2/10/2007

I realize going to a ""maritime"" themed restaraunt as a vegeterian makes almost no sense, but I was with meat eaters...However, LITERALLY the only non-meat dish is a simple green salad, or a more deluxe salad (with belgian endive and goat cheese....it was good). But this is New York City, not Pasins, Iowa; vegertarianism is almost as common as being a barbaric meat eater down here. Give us even just ONE entree. I'm so sick of eating nothing as an appetizer and eating my salad as my friends eat their real meal. Pros: fish up the as$ Cons: fish up the as$ more

Pretty Good Place 6/4/2006

Hudson Place is a pretty good place. The food is excellent & fresh. The bartenders know how to make an excellent drink. I'm a REALLY picky Martini guy & each time I've been to HP it's made to perfection. Considering the high quality of the food & drink HP is bargain. The drawbacks to HP are the lousy decor, ambiance that feels like a Houlihans & service that can range from OK to lousy. The last time we were there the hostess looked on as a woman allowed her screaming 3 year old to climb up a little wall next to us & drool on our table. To get the inattentive parents attention we just started peppering our conversation with the ""F"" word. She scopped up her little brat & got him far away fast. The excellent, modestly priced food (including desserts) deserve better decor & better servers. Pros: food, drinks, price Cons: decor, ambiance, service more

Delicious, great experience 6/2/2006

I ate at Hudson Place for the first time last week as it was recommended to me by a friend. I was very impressed by the promptness by which we were greeted and seated. The restaurant exudes a charm about it in its naval outfitting, warm wood and brick walls, and relaxing lighting. The bar is non-intrusive and I imagine great for an after work drink. The food was delicious. I had their seared yellow fin tuna which was well-cooked and flavorful. Oh and please do try their cheesecake. Furthermore, their prices are extremely reasonable. This place is a gem and is not to be missed. more

A Spontaneous Classic 6/2/2006

Truly the most seductive menu in the neighborhood. Compliments to the chef - Hudson Place has one of the best crab cakes one may find outside of New England, and the steaks give a really explosive taste. Service is great, as the waiters are all friendly, food takes a while to be prepared, but the atmosphere of the place allows one to divulge into great conversations. Once a little secret of mine, now a neighborhood pleaser. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

a wonderful restaurant 6/1/2006

My friends and I have been coming to this restaurant for the past several years every time we visit New York. It is still one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! Sure, nothing is perfect but 9 out of 10 pleasant experience isn't bad, compare with some of the high profile restaurants you have in NYC. The friendly staff, healthy portion of wines by the glass and the menu selection make the place popular. Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: crowed more

Major Disappointment 2/19/2006

For weeks, I have been walking by this place and admiring the posted menu and prices. I finally tried the Sunday Brunch. What a mistake. First, we waited 40 minutes for our food, but after a thrity minute wait, the waitress asked me to clarify what I had ordered (I ordered off their menu, with no changes). Then our three entrees arrived, and were luke warm at best....the food wasn't inspirational as described in the menu. Not surprisingly, when we were done, the check arrived almost immediately. We did complain to the manager, but she just said ""there are problems in the kitchen"" and took the drinks off bill. The only time I will ever return to this joint, is if they hang a banner outside that states :Under new management"". Pros: Price Cons: Service, Quality of food more

Verdict Still Out 1/23/2006

Hudson Place looked like a great neighborhood place: always busy, nice decor, inventive, full menu. However, upon trying it I was a bit disappointed. The seafood risotto I had was a little too soupy for my liking. My dining companions Lobster was a little overcooked and ravioli a little too cheesy. The bottle of wine we split however, was excellent. Prices weren't as high as I thought they might be. Overall, I'm still not sure about the place but, I'm willing to give it another try. more

Don't Go There 1/21/2006

This place was awful for so many different reasons. It took a long time for a host to appear to seat us. I wanted to order an extra dish to split with my friend. I was told that I would be charged for two dishes if I wanted the pancakes split beforehand. In addition, they brought my friend the wrong dish, didn't apologize and it took at least a half an hour till the new dish arrived. Save your money and time, go someplace else. Cons: lousy service, bad tasting food more

Great Neighborhood Restaurant 8/1/2005

I cannot say enough good things about the restaurant Hudson Place on Third Avenue at 36th Street. This is a quiet neighborhood restaurant that is also fun and hip. The meals are excellent, and there is often a rich variety of choices on the specials menu. Its always a pleasure to visit Hudson Place, and I recommend it heartily. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Service more

great time 7/29/2005

I was recently introduced to Hudson Place and I have to say that it is one of the best restaurants that I have been to. The restaurant is good for a small table and a large group of people. more
