Yes, this place is a part of our cultural history. I personally find it quite over-rated. Visit it once so you can truthfully say you've been. The prices aren't all that great and the inside of this store is just a wreck! Cramped aisles, too much stuff piled in small areas and employees that seem to be nowhere. Disorganization and chaos seem to be the norm here, and I, myself, think this adds up to not so good shopping experiences. Save your money and your sanity and go elsewhere. more

Wow. If you come in the back of the place where all the CDs are you will think that you are never going to find what you are looking for. Have no fear. Just find one of the weird looking people and ask them where to find it. They will know right away. It is quite amazing. It is a neat place to check out. I hope it never goes out of business because there will never be another place like it. more

Rochester must see 9/14/2005

Everyone that lives in Rochester has been to, or at least heard, the HOG. Although it is probably the most disorganized music section I have ever seen, they always seem to have what I am looking for. They have opened at midnight for some releases. It had a fun atmosphere, and its fun to just go and look around. However, if you are truly just trying to quickly pick up a piece of music, this is not the place to go. more

Part of that unique Rochester experience 8/17/2005

Let's put it this way, HOG is Ha-Uge! This is by far the largest music store I have seen. One floor is devoted to guitars and instruments, and the downstairs is devoted to retail CD sales. The CD section is also the largest I have seen, and the most disorganized. Prices tend to be good, and you are considered lucky if you can find what you're looking for. The staff are constantly trying to shelve this place, but they are fighting a losing battle. Suffice to say that people can (and do) spend hours in here looking for what they want. Sometimes they find it, sometimes they find something else, or nothing. I will say that the chance of finding something is inversely proportional to the amount of time it has been available. more
