this store is too small and results in irritating problems... first, their bridal gowns are all kept in plastic bags that are impossible to look through. this means that you are...

AWFUL, AWFUL Bridal Shop 12/19/2011

This place was absolutely AWFUL! The Russian woman helping me was by far the rudest and most difficult person to work with. Her helpers however, were great (but that didn't matter). They limited me to only an hour to try on dresses, I couldn’t look at any dresses myself, then they only brought me dresses in my actual dress size and told me I couldn't try on anything in a different size (bigger or smaller) because I wouldn't get a ""real feeling"" of what the dress would look like on me. Then, after an hour of frustration she announced my time was up, it had been an hour and the other dresses the store had were for ""stick figured girls"" so I was basically out of luck! I am not saying I am skinny, I am a size 14, but she made it sound like I was enormous. Needless to say, I am NEVER going back there and will tell everyone I know for the rest of my life to never go there either! Friends don’t let friends shop at House of Fashion! I bought my dress from another Sacramento bridal company (La Soie) and they were AMAZING, so my shopping day was still a success! more

Very Helpful! 10/13/2011

After a horrible experience with David's Bridal in which they told us one thing over the phone and promptly denied ever saying anything and even blamed my fiance and future mother in law of mishearing what they said on the phone, we took my dress over to the House of Fashion. It had been 4 years since I purchase my wedding dress and it needed to be altered obviously. David's Bridal made me lose 2 weeks of time before my wedding and made me come into their shop and try on my dress only to tell me they 'couldn't' work on my dress. After calling a bunch of places, we happened upon HoF and they were incredibly professional and helpful. Instead of having to buy a new dress, they were able to install a beautiful corset back which I had been wanting. Ramona is extremely knowledgeable with the dresses and Beth was just as friendly and helpful as possible. Thank you ladies for bringing a silver lining to my almost tragedy. more

Great Experience! 4/5/2010

I had a terrific experience at HOF. I went with my mom and sister and we were treated great. I am a heavier girl and I was afraid that this experience was going to make me feel uncomfortable about my weight, but it did just the opposite :) My weight was never an issue, I felt beautiful in every dress I tried on. Our attendant listened to what I wanted, as far as style and price range, and picked a fantastic selection to try on. She recognized that it was a very special moment for my mom, sister and I and did not interfere. She allowed my sister and mom pick out dresses for me to try on and never once pressured us to hurry up. We had so much fun and ended up finding the perfect dress for me. All the staff at HOF was very knowledgeable and friendly. I never felt pressured to buy and was able to stay in my budget. Thank you HOF for making this experience one I will treasure forever! Pros: great selection of styles, prices & sizes more

Very great experience 3/1/2010

I have to say i read the reviews on this place and totally disagree with alot of them. I happen to be job hunting today and saw this place while driving and decided to stop. The woman who greeted me was very friendly , she immediately let me go look at bridesmaid dresses and was sooo helpful! A consultant named Mina came to help me..I had no appointment and it was the first time I even looked at dresses. Mina was great , I showed her a pic of a wedding dress on my phone i had downloaded..I told them my price budget, no funny looks at all, they even knew it was my first time and probably knew i wasnt getting the dress today but still had great customer service . They treated me as if I were going to purchase the gown today..no rushing, bringing me so many options!!..She and another girl helped me in every dress and were helpful in any way!! Pros: Great customer service more

A place with character 12/1/2009

Wow, I have to say that I was really surprised how many poor reviews this place got. Being the “yelper” that I am, I admit it, I never checked the reviews here before making my appointment. My mom was only in town for the weekend and I wasn’t very motivated to start this whole “dress up” game. Mind you – I am the only woman on the planet who lacks the “girlie” gene to even be able to match towels much less pick out the dress that’s supposed to be etched in my futures husband brain for years to come. So, around, up and down the one way streets of downtown Sac-town, and we arrive just in time for my scheduled appointment. Perhaps because I’m not really the “frills and foofy” kind, I really liked the older building with the amazing staircase centered in the room. Seriously, it was obviously an older building but the layout seemed perfect with the dressing rooms just hidden at the top of the stairs and select dresses, shoes and accessories decoration the room. My appointment was with “Mina” and right away she complimented me for being the perfect bride who had my hair up my own bra and my own shoes. (Compliments always ease the way through any slightly uncomfortable situation in my world.) She immediately directed me to their sales rack – even before asking my budget. Impressive, they didn’t go straight for the jugular! She gave us space to look things over and then we followed her up the cool stairs and back to a dressing room. Only then did she ask for my price range, and didn’t even cringe when I gave my meek $500 response. Instead she told another girl to bring more dresses! I really felt comfortable with the entire staff. One gal was there to assist with clips and dresses, another, I swear was just there to personally congratulate me when mom and I actually got teary-eyed over one of the gowns. I mean, this was how it was supposed to be, right?! It was fun, comfortable, not rushed, and very informative. They had no problems with us taking pictures and gave us her opinions of the good and bad features of each dress. I really felt as though Mina “knew” about these dresses and the (mysterious) “materials”. She never lost patience even when I wanted to try my top three favorites on again! This was even after letting her know I wasn’t going to buy a dress that day – again, no attitude, no pressure – she just took notes on what I liked and advised me which ones would and would not be available if I opted to wait. I felt very informed if even overwhelmed by the variety. I wish now that I had just bought a damn dress ? I only made it to one other place that day - David’s Bridal in Roseville. That’s a whole different review – let’s just say that I am actually dreading my commitment to go back to the lacey cattle ranch with florescent lighting….. Pros: Large Selection of Dresses Cons: None that I could think of more

Made my daughter's day special 10/30/2009

My daughter's dress was amazing - very different and unique. Our consultant Mahin was the best - she knew what would look good, and what we should avoid. My daughter even changed her mind and Mahin couldn't have been more gracious. Since my daughter is petite, we needed quite a bit of alterations to shorten the dress. No only were the alterations done on time, the dress fit her perfectly! This was a great experience, and I highly recommend House of Fashion. Pros: Great choice of dresses, excellent alterations more

I Gave Them a Second Chance... 8/31/2009

...and they stepped it up. When I went for my first visit, I left wanting to cry. It was a Thursday afternoon, and there was nobody in the shop, but I waited for 45 MINUTES PAST MY APPOINTMENT TIME before my consultant finally came to help me. I had to go to the front desk twice durin that time to inquire if someone was ready for me, and BOTH times they said ""Oh, you haven't been helped?"" Seriously?! Of course I haven't been helped! If I were being helped I would be upstairs in a big white dress!! So when I finally met with my consultant, who I shall not name as I hate to throw individuals under the bus but not entire companies, she took me upstairs and showed me to my room. She held out her hand and said ""Pictures?"" I said I didn't have any and she sighed, looking irritated. As she started to walk away to pull dresses I was trying to describe what I wanted, but she wasn't listening. She brought back a few dresses that were nice, but not what I had asked for. In her defense, she did pull about 10 dresses for me to try, but I was only allowed to spend about 30 seconds in each one before she said ""Ok, ready for the next one?"" I barely got a look, but none of them really caught my eye, so I guess that was fine. When we went through all those she asked which 3 I would like to add to my card, to which I said ""Well, I didn't really like any of those, are there any different ones I can try?"" She replied that she had brought all that fit my description and that were in my price range, and that I should just narrow it to 3. So I just chose three at random so I could get the hell outta there, never intending to return. \r \r But then I did...On a Monday early afternoon. I got right in with my consultant, Mahin, and she took me right up. This time I had come with very a very specific style in mind, and wasn't going to stray from that. She asked me what I like, and I started to say as she looked me up and down. I stopped midsentence because I could tell she was going to say something. ""V-neck with a mermaid skirt would be perfect for you."" THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO ASK FOR!!! I had tried on that shape at another salon and it is perfect for my body. She nailed it! She proceed to take me to the dresses and asked me about each one as she pulled it, and was very respectful of my price range. Each dress she brought was beautiful on, but there were two in particular that were great, and the best one was the very first one that I tried on. She let me stand there and stare as long as I wanted, and he assistant took TONS of pictures from different angles for me. She even suggested I put on the first one again because it was my favorite. We have it narrowed down to 2, but we both love the first one I tried, and it just happens to be the least expensive of all that I tried on, $1000 UNDER my price range! I felt like Mahin was genuinely out to find me a beautiful dress that I could afford, and not just looking to find one at the top end of my budget. She understands how a dress should look, and takes into account your size and shape, not just the hottest trends. I am very happy that I gave HOF a second chance, and even happier that I found Mahin! I set up my second appointment with her to go with my bridesmaids, and I can't wait to show them the dresses we found.\r \r I would say not to let the other reviews keep you from at least trying this place out. If you get a bad vibe, go with it. Your gut is usually right. But I gave them another shot and ended up finding two amazing dresses, and getting fantastic service. I guess the second time is the charm! Pros: selection Cons: service more

Poor service, rude employees, do not go there 6/4/2009

I went there to look for my bridal gown, and the sales lady first greeted me in a very nice and sweet voice until she looked at me from top to bottom. Immediate she took me to a room full of dresses on the second floor, and told me to look through the dresses myself. I told her I was looking for a specific style, but she told me to look for it myself. Of course with so many dresses in the room, I didn't know where to start. I asked her if she had my size in stock and she she told me ""there's one, but it's $1600, can you afford it""? I felt very insulted. Then she told me ""I don't think there's any thing here for you"". She then took me down to look at bridemaids dresses, and told me again to go through the dresses myself. Of course, at that point, I just walked out of the place. I would think that if you pay so much for a dress, you would receive some service. This lady did not provide any service, but was extremely rude to me. She judged me the minute she saw me and assumed I could not afford anything in the store. I would not go back there again. more

I would definitely recommend.... 5/13/2009

Very warm atmosphere and friendly people. I did not know that they are working 24 hours. In fact this is the only salon in this neighborhood that provide 24 hours service. I was hesitant first time because of ""questionable reputation of the salon's at night time..."", but was gladly surprised with level of the service and absence of ANY indication of ""inappropriate behaviors” from salon staff. I would definitely recommend this salon to the serious clients... Pros: Warm environment & friendly professional staff. Cons: East Sacramento parking... more

Awful Service, Dirty Establishment, Brides Don't Go Here! 4/25/2009

I came to HOF because my sister bought her dress here. She was satisfied with the dress but warned me she was disgusted with their service. Normally, I am not too bothered by service, so I came to see thier selection.\r \r They were the worst employees of any establishment i have ever been to in my life. I told them what kind of dresses I liked, and specifically what I did not want on them. They brought me nothing but what I didn't like! To add insult to injury, they told me what I was looking for ""was probably out of my price range."" That was it for me.\r \r The one dress I told them I really wanted to try on, which I had the style number and everything, they claimed they sold out of... only for some assistant employee to bring me that dress when the other lady wasn't around! \r \r it was blatant they were Russian and only cared about the one other bride who was there... a Russian girl! \r I walked out refusing to ever step foot in there again. I only joined cityshearch to complain about this place when I saw it as a top place to shop! Save yourself time, money, and self respect and go somewhere else! more

If you want to be treated like a princess and get the best weddding dress for a good price--go to The House of Fashion 2/25/2009

I advise people to go to The House of Fashion because i had very pleasant experiences there. First i would like to say that they are extremely friendly and helpful not only to me but to all the customers. My consultant was picking out the most beautiful wedding gowns for me and they suited my style very well. They were all so gorgeous, i couldn't decide which one to pick but the staff helped me out and arranged everything for me, the time of delivery (my dress even came earlier) i picked out shoes and a veil. They helped me so so much, they did everything they could just so i would be happy. We had tears of joy in our eyes when everything was done. House of Fashion is the best bridal salon that i have ever been to. I went to many different salons around California but i found my dress in the house of fashion and i had the best experience. It was so beautiful and relaxing, they did not rush you and gave their honest opinion about everything, which helped me a lot. If you want to be treated like a princess i strongly encourage you to go there! trust me, you will never regret that you chose this place.\r and for those brides that had a bad experience..its just your bitchy attitude, Get over it! Pros: Beautiful dresses, good prices, excellent service Cons: n/a more

Poor Service, Rude Employees, Dishonest Company 2/5/2009

I had the worst experience at the House of Fashion. The owner/manager/employees are rude and dishonest. They will tell you what you want to hear with no intention of backing up their promises and then will stick you with a non-refundable dress that you purchased under false pretenses. If I could do it over again, I would not step foot in this horrible establishment. If you purchase a dress from HOF, demand to take it with you because if you leave it there they will let other brides try on your dress that you have paid for in full. DO NOT BUY A SAMPLE from them. They will tell you the will ""have it cleaned"" and repaired, but they will do a poor job on alterations/repairs and refuse to clean it. I cannot say enough what a horrible business HOF is. Save yourself a lot of trouble and heartache and take your business elsewhere. I can't believe this place is still in business. They have been ripping off unsuspecting brides for the last 45 years.... don't let it continue! Pros: Absolutely None Cons: Horrible service and very dishonest company more

Great customer service!! 4/4/2008

I went to the House of Fashion to shop for my wedding gown and was pleasantly surprised by the organization and tremendous help in the store. I not only found the dress I was looking for in one day, but was so happy with the continued service I received from all sales associtates. Mina was my favorite, she has wonderful, elegant taste and knew what looked good and what didn't. I can't imagine going to another bridal salon to choose the perfect dress for the most memorable day in a woman's life. Thank you HOF. --Natalie Wood Pros: Great service, easy parking more

OMG!!! YAY IT CAME EARLY AND ITS WITH ME FINALLY 3/12/2008

Another perfect review for HOF! They said my dress would come in the middle of june but it came way early and it was PERFECT. When I tried it on it fit like a glove. My mother cried and my aunt and godmother did too. My little 1 1/2 year old niece approved of it too! The service was still perfect and I have no complaints! Need to go back in august to make sure i don't need any changes. I LOVE YOU HOF!!!!!!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Nothing Has Changed-Just A Fancy Warehouse With Rush Service 10/5/2007

Thirty-three years ago I bought my bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses at HOF and the owner then (still the same) was rude, which obviously is passed on to some of the salespeople. My daughter did not buy her birdal gown there for her wedding, although we did attempt to give them a chance, but due to location we were stuck with getting the bridesmaides dresses there. I agree with other reviews that they get you on alterations and they deliberately try to get a size too big so it needs alterations (don't let them!). We were lucky that we did get a patient sales lady on a few occasions but normally they are very rushed and trying to help more than one customer at a time and I guess we expect some special treatment for the price we pay for our ""special day"". You are better off going to a small bridal shop. We ended up at one where they didn't have as many choices as HOF but what they had was great and very reasonably priced (including the alterations). Don't be fooled by the big glass on the windows and the great location. If service means anything to you, go somewhere else! Pros: Good hours and reasonable parking Cons: Cramped, dresses packed together, no one on one (no matter what they promise) and high prices. more

Best Bridal Store Ever 7/6/2007

I would consider myself to be very picky about everything, and when I went shopping for my wedding dress I never expected to find something the same day ! After trying on only 5 dresses I found the dress. Not only was it in my price range, but it was beautiful. It only took me 45 minutes to find it also. Mahin helped me, and she rocks. I would never go anywhere else to buy a wedding dress! Pros: helpful, large selection Cons: finding parking difficult more

Shabby Shoes for $50 7/4/2007

When I chose and purchaed my dress in March, I wanted to place the order for my shoes. It was a very busy Saturday for them and I had taken more than the usual amount of time to choose my dress. Perhaps that is why my House of Fashion consultant brushed me off and said to order my shoes when I had my fitting: Don't worry! It'll be okay, she said! I really wanted it done and taken care of, but I decided to leave myself in the hands of the experts. I ordered my shoes at my first fitting, only to receive a message saying that they were backordered and the manufacturer would not have anymore until after my wedding. House of Fashion suggested everything from white shoes to go with my ivory dress or a different size. If they really took care of their customers, they would have called other bridal shops in Sacramento on my behalf to try to find an available, new pair, but the issue didn't seem to be important to them at all. They had me over a barrell -- alterations had been done based on these shoes and a week and a half prior to my wedding I simply did not have time to run around Sacramento to look for new ones. They cleaned up the sample pair (ivory and in my size) -- and they discounted them -- but, I must say, these are very shabby shoes for $50 and who wants to wear shabby shoes on their wedding day at any price? Be careful if you choose House of Fashion: you'll have to look after yourself, despite all their pacifying words. more

Best wedding dress shopping experience ever! 7/2/2007

This place is simply the best. I got the greatest service, help, and feelings from this place. This place is extremely busy but they are great about giving you lots of help. My wedding consultant knew what looked good on me and kept bringing out more and more dresses that all looked amazing. I knew that no matter what dress I choose it would be beautiful. I went other places and the quality of the fabrics and beading were nothing compared to this place. Unlike other places who simply have dresses on racks that everyone gets to try on. They say they do a ""spot check"" but everyone has gotten to try on your dress before you get it. At this place your dress is made by the designer and it tailored to fit you. No one else has worn the dress. They have a range of dresses that fits every budget. After getting my dress I felt like a princess and the ladies made you feel so good there. They were not pushy and rushing me at all. In fact the first time we went there we were there for over 3 hours because we were having so much fun. They squeezed us in the second time somehow, and we had a hard time choosing because there were all so wonderful. Again somehow she was able to give me first class service and help us out in determinging our decision (which was so hard to make). I would not go to any other place but this one if you want the best experience! Pros: Variety and uniqueness, personalized attention, and atmosphere Cons: parking and how busy it was more

I received helpful service 5/3/2007

I was helped by Amara both times I visited HoF. She was amazing and found the dress that I Was looking for when I could not find it in their showrooms. She was honest with her feelings about my dress which was nice since I went alone. Once she saw the kind of dress I liked, she bought out others that she thought would suite me.\r \r I ended up buying my wedding dress there partly because Amara was such a joy to work with. She made me feel perfect in my perfect dress! Pros: Dress selection, freedom to look/tak pictures Cons: Busy on weekends and in the late afternoon, had to wait more
