They overcharge what they quote for pricing over the phone. Our dining took 7 hours, yes 7 hours. The owner was rude and the food was gross. Pros: Not a thing Cons: Ever...

Unacceptable Waiting Time and Overpriced 5/21/2006

Even though we arrived at our reservation time of 7:30PM, and our main course did not arrive until 11:15PM. The people at the table next to us got up and left at 10PM after only having received the first course and were told they had to pay the entire fixed price .The fixed price of $45 was for a salad, first course and main course (coffee and dessert would be extra). Although the food was good, at $45 it was highly over priced. We were told that we needed to bring our own wine since the establishment did not have a liquor license, but for that price we had anticipated that iced tea, soft drinks or juice would be available. Pros: Eclectic, Friendly Cons: too much waiting, overpriced more

4 Hour wait for food. Is there a hotel nearby? 5/19/2006

People were actually sleeping in the parlor waiting for dinner to arrive. Four hours of unattentive service, then the food arrives not prepared to my request. I ordered rare steak and it was served well done. Two people from my party left after waiting more than 3 hours. The owner was very belligerant when we inquired about why the service was so slow. Cons: waiting for 4 hours, POOR SERVICE, poor food quality more

An Amazing First Anniversary 5/15/2006

Patrick opened the House in the Heights to my husband and I for our first anniversary. It was truly an amazing dining experience. The food was unbelievable, but make sure to come hungry Patrick doesn't serve small portions! The evening felt like I was at a close friend's home having a gourmet meal, but I didn't feel guilty for not offering to help clean up. Thanks again to Patrick to making our first anniversary truly memorable. Not sure how we'll top it next year! Pros: Ambience, Romantic, Good Value Cons: None! more

An Absolutely Must Experience! 2/11/2006

This was our first time at House in The Heights and what an amazing best-kept secret in Houston. Lovely ambience, excellent food, friendly and personal service, great value and VERY ROMANTIC. Your dining experience at this unique restaurant would be uncomparable with any other restaurants in town. You would not be rushed. You would feel welcome just like you would feel at your best friend's house. Patrick and his team are outstanding. He calls his restaurant ""a work of love"" and you can see and feel that with your heart and soul. A wonderful place to propose! A great place for anniversaries! An amazing place for a Valentine's Day Dinner. Make your reservation NOW! Pros: taking your own wine more

Incredible dining experience 6/26/2004

The highly personable owner and staff immediately set the tone for a fantastic dinner. They were all very attentive yet gave us our privacy. The food was outstanding! Everything was incredibly fresh and done to perfection. Each course was as memorable as our first impression of the house. The ambiance was eclectic yet very romantic. It was an expensive meal, but worth every penny. Pros: Excellent food, Quality service more

Houston's best place for anniversaries 8/8/2003

This was my first time, but as soon as I walked in owner/chef/waiter Patrick Zone knew my name, and popped in incredible bread so that it was fresh for us. The intimate Victorian house setting is incredibly romantic, and everything we ate was spectacular. Patrick is so friendly without being intrusive, we asked him to have a glass of Moscato dessert wine I had brought back from Italy with us. The meal did extend over a long time, but that is purposefully meant to allow you to savor the meal and enjoy the company of your dinner comanion(s). AN ABSOLUTELY PERFECT DINING EXPERIENCE!!! Pros: Incredible food, Extremely Friendly, Intimate and Romantic Cons: Corking fee high, but, I'll pay it to keep, him in business more

Takes time! 5/29/2003

the house is funky and fun, but prepare for an entire evening. The owner doesn't try and hide the fact that it's traditional dining, but if you've got somewhere to be, try another place. Be sure and bring enough wine to last 3-4 hours. I had the fish and it was so salty I could barely eat it. the appetizer and salad were excellent and my husband's tuna was great. Pros: atmosphere, personal service more

Houston's Hidden Secret 12/3/2002

House in the Heights- what an appropriate name for a restaurant whose ambiance and staff make you feel right at home, as if you were dining at a close friend's house (if your friend was a gourmet chef, of course!) House in the Heights is by far one of the best restaurants in Houston - outstanding food, quality, and service. It is a true dining experience! Pros: Prix Fixe, Reservations Only, Incredible Food more

Best Kept Secret in Houston! 11/30/2002

Easily the best dining experience in Houston. This place is quiet enough to have a conversation, and plenty of time to enjoy it. Owner/chef Patrick Zone makes sure your dining is as leisurely as you wish. The soft, interesting mix of music he selects actually adds to the experience. With his prix fixe menu including an appetizer, salad, and choice of three entrees and no printed menu, Patrick is able to offer only the freshest ingredients he can get that day. He even goes to the trouble of growing the dozen or so herbs he uses in his dipping oil for the fresh baked bread he pops in the oven when you arrive. The food is just phenomenal and the presentation is always impressive. Save room for dessert! He makes his own ice cream and it is to die for. The Heights is dry, so bring your favorite beverage. Pros: Fab Food!, Leisurely dining, Great atmosphere Cons: BYOB for some people more

Completely at Home 11/24/2002

From the atmosphere (cozy, homey, candle and lamp-lit with Dean Martin on the sound system) to the food, I couldn't have asked for better. Owner and Chef Patrick decides on the fare, you won't find a menu here! My dinner consisted of roasted corn, black bean and pancetta chowder, a mixed baby greens and spinach salad with feta, grilled pineapple and vinaigrette, then bowtie pasta with a dill cream sauce with a brown sugar glazed salmon filet. Presentation was beautiful and food was delicious. Bring your own wine, and save room for dessert. The chef makes everything, including about 7 different types of ice cream the night I went. This is a unique dining experience. Leave your night open, without plans for afterward, because like dining at a friend's house, you'll want to stay and chat and keep nibbling on dessert and coffee long after the plates have been cleared. more

Fab-u-lous! 9/7/2002

What can I say? The food, the service, the atmosphere were perfect! Even my most finicky guests were delighted by the evening. We actually spent 5 (short) hours together sharing a meal and enjoying wine and each others company. Patrick, your place is a gem! I can't wait for the next opportunity to do it again! Pros: You name it. more

Incredible! 8/8/2002

Definitely the best food in Houston, hands down! Perfect for those who truly enjoy the dining experience. No rush; just an enjoyable, laid back atmosphere. Pros: Perfect Cons: No cons more
