Best African Food Ever!!!! 5/16/2007

I have had a lot of good vegetarian and Ethiopian food in my life, but this was by far the best! Very flavorful, very affordable, very friendly service. Their mango lasse was delicous as was the Sumbuso and the whole meal. They give you a fried sweet dumpling at the end with Orange Blossom water to drissle on top. This is defenetly my new favorite and we will be back again very soon with all our friends and family. Thank you. Pros: Everything was great more

Amazing Organic Ethiopian, Unlike Anywhere Else in Portland 3/28/2007

This is the place I bring my guests. The injira is freshly made to order, still warm and yeasty, but not super sour. The sambusas and veggie combo are better than anything else I've had at an Ethiopian place in town, and the freshly made donuts are unbelievable. Everything is organic, and the owners toast and grind their own spice blends, and chop the herbs rather than putting everything in a blender, so each bite is a little different. The owners themselves serve, and are always very warm and conversational. The meal is finished off with a few drops of refreshing rose water on your hands. The recipes are Eastern Ethiopian, so they're a little different from other Ethiopian places, and in my opinion, much, much better. Pros: Excellent service, delicious recipes, fresh injira more

Great place for a casual, fun dinner. 11/15/2006

This place is just fun. The food is great and authentic, the staff is so nice and overly accomodating, and how can you not love a place where silverware isn't an option? Horn of Africa is everything it should be. Pros: Great prices, awesome food, and incredible service Cons: Not good for germophobes (eating with your hands) more

Excellent buffet seven days a week. 3/19/2006

The food is delicious, I've tried many of our local Ethiopian restaurants and this rates up there with the best. The buffet is back after a long hiatus. They have many fantastic vegan & organic options. I would highly recommend going for the lunch buffet if you want to sample many varied dishes! Pros: buffet, organic, vegan more
