Recently I booked return tickets for my parents to fly out of Hyderabad (by British Airways). On a friend?s recommendation I booked through Horizon travel and the ticket price was $50 less when compared to prices listed on BA. Having had prior experience of booking tickets through BA I remembered their cancellation penalties; however, I did not enquire and was not informed that the cancellation fee would be much different for tickets booked through a travel agent. As luck would have had it, my parents? journey had to be cancelled and, after I approached Horizon for cancellation, I had the rude shock of knowing that Horizon would impose a $425 cancellation fee (per passenger). I called the airlines and the airline representative was equally shocked with that cancellation fee quotation. Because the ticket was booked through the travel agent it could NOT be cancelled by the airline and the refund could only be obtained from the travel agent. I will never know whether the airline mandated the travel agency to impose such hefty penalty or the travel agency unilaterally decided to pocket such huge money. .
