I wasn't sure what to expect when I headed down to Honey last Friday night. I've heard good things about the place and when I got there it wasn't quite what I expected -- but that was a good thing. I don't particularly love bars, lounges and clubs in the Meatpacking District... too gaudy, pricey, and obnoxious for my taste. Honey was different because it wasn't too upscale for its own good, and the place itself was pretty nice. Some of the plusses: no cover, no line, no annoying bouncer, good service, great decor, not too crowded. I did not eat at Honey so I can only comment on the bar atmosphere. The bouncer let our group in without any problems at all, which was great considering that most places in the area wouldn't have let our group in (we wouldn't have had the optimal guy/girl ratio for most places) -- although I did notice the girl sitting with the bouncer comment that the people coming in were ""all guys"". When I got inside, I did not notice too many guys. In fact there were plenty of women in the bar but it wasn't packed. Honey reminded me of a nice version of a bunch of places I've been to in Murray Hill or in the Lower East Side. The brick walls provided a nice ambience and the long bar made getting drinks fairly easy. I will say, though, that the place wasn't packed that night and while that's something I like, some people go out looking to stand nuts-to-buts all night long and walking away with splashes of vodka and tonic all over their shirts and pants. If that's your scene, Honey might not be the spot for you. It's more of a lounge and I had a great time there. Someone handed me a ""Lunchbox"" shot, which I guess is vodka and beer? I took it, I got drunk... I'd recommend it.
Pros: No Line, Not Too Pretentious, Decent Prices for Meatpacking, Nice Decor, One of the 'Chiller' Spots in the area
Cons: Music, Not a 'Scene' if that's what you're looking for
