A complete rip off !!!!! BEWARE 2/21/2012

I've to give it a minimum of 1 star to rate it, but restaurants like this leave a bad taste in your mouth. I was there last Friday with 2 friends. They are complete cheats. With price, with quantity and with service. They charged us more for the size ordered, the skimped on the quantity and with the dessert fondue which is already overpriced, what was on the menu and what we got was quite different. We didn't get any brownie bites and rice krispies but only bananas and plenty of small apple pieces. Also their online menu is misleading as all dishes are atleast $3-$6 more. The prices are higher than average for a restaurant of this calibre. I left feeling cheated. And to top it all, they very sneakyly added 20% tip to the bill without our permission. Even the menu says that the gratutity for a party of 6 is 18% which is standard, but we were just 3 and paid 15% tip for a poor service, which ended up being 35% with their added tip. I'll call my credit card company to dispute the charges. Be careful when paying by card, they swipe and add like it is no one's business. Hope you find this helpful. Regards. more

THEY DONT SERVE TAP WATER HERE!!!! 2/1/2012

TERRIBLY SLOW SERVICE, WAIT STAFF ACTING AS IF WE WERE NOT SEATED FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE SHOWING UP AT OUR TABLE. IMMEDIATELY PRESENTED DEAL COUPON AND ALTHOUGH IT HAD NO DRINK RESTRICTION, THEY WOULD""T HONOR HAPPY HOUR DRINK PRICES! THERE IS AN UNPLEASANT ODOR IN THIS SPACE TOO. THE FOOD WAS JUST FAIR BUT THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TOOK TO FINISH CHEESE AND THEM CHOCOLATE FONDUE WAS OVER 2 HOURS! MY DATE WAS SEVERELY HAMPERED BY THIS EXPERIENCE. PLEASE STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT A GOOD TIME. THE DEAL COUPONS ARE JUST NOT WORTH IT AT THIS HELL HOLE. more

THE MOST DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! more

Stay Away 9/28/2011

Good atmosphere and music but it stops there. Awful service, I mean just terrible. The drinks were very small, I guess that's why they are cheap. The food was fair but the portions were small.....and the worst part is they over charged my credit card and I had to jump through hoops to get my refund. Not a place I would recommend! more

Bad Service, Bad Experience, possibly illegal Practices 5/28/2011

We heard about Honey through a BuyWithMe coupon, so we decided to try it. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. On the bright side: the atmosphere and DJ music were good (cool mix of old jazz classics with downtempo chill and electronic lounge). The dark side: The coupon was good for drinks, but not good for the happy hour drinks (which wasn't listed on the coupon anywhere). Fair enough (?), except the drinks listed on Honey's website (that made us want to come), weren't on their bar menu any longer. None of the other drinks on the regular bar menu sounded good, so we had to spend money on the happy hour drinks. SO, instead of just drinking, we needed to order food to make up the value of the coupon credit. Since we had already eaten dinner, we decided on dessert. We mostly enjoyed the chocolate fondue, but they give only a small amount of fruit with which to dip, so there is a lot of extra chocolate wasted at the bottom of fondue pot. Their menu indicated we'd also be getting some sort of Italian cinnamon cracker, but what we got were just regular old graham crackers. What really made the experience irreparably bad, though, was that when we got the check they had tacked on an automatic 20% tip (and they tipped on the tax amount, as well). We found this unacceptable, since we prefer to tip on actual quality of service, and also not to tip on tax. While our server was competent, everything that happened once we questioned the automatic 20% tip caused the experience to be bad. We waited for one half hour to speak with the ""manager"" (Tanesha), whom we say talking animatedly (apparently socially) at the bar for at least 10 minutes before coming to our table. Their position was that everyone was charged (and presumably paid) the automatic 20% tip. We stated again that this was unacceptable. They had already taken our credit card before we realized they had automatically added the 20% tip and tipped on tax, so we asked for them to tear that up and we would pay cash. Finally, after some back and forth, we told her what we were going to pay: $10 cash for the 2 happy hour drinks we had ($5 each). And then the $30. coupon would cover the fondue. Tanesha seemed to agree to that. We left the $10. we owed, but didn't tip the server to protest the horrible treatment we had received (sorry to the server, but the management was to blame for both a bad policy AND making us wait 30 minutes to talk with the manager). No where on the coupon does it state an automatic 20% gratuity will be added (many other coupons state it upfront, which is acceptable). FYI, the next day at dinner in a different restaurant our waiter received a 50% tip, due not only to his excellent service, but also because their establishment did not add automatic gratuity to our meal (which we bought with a coupon, too). The final straw (and that which forced us to write this bad review) is that upon arriving home, we found out that Honey had actually run our credit card afterall, for an additional $17. We are having our bank reverse this charge since it was agreed that night that Honey would tear up our credit card and let us pay cash instead. THIS IS THEFT, HONEY! I highly recommend AGAINST going to Honey because of their unethical (and probably illegal) practices. more

DO NOT THROW PARTIES HERE 2/11/2011

the event planner MEL RODRIGUEZ is incompetent and the bouncers are jerks. my friends and I were charged when we were supposed to be comped and people were made to stand in the rain when the club wasn't even full. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away as you can? Oh and did I mention the speakers didn't work in the room we reserved and when we let MEL know about all of these mishaps they didnt nothing to rectify the situation. I will never go back there or recommend it to anyone. Consider yourself warned. more

More like Vinegar than Honey... 12/17/2010

Used to go there every so often. After going yesterday, won't be going back again...place has gotten too ""dark"", ya know?...\r \r Rude bouncers. Lazy, slow, unknowledgable bartenders. Bad food. Bad Music.\r \r Better off going to McKenna's across the street...\r \r more

Low Key Spot 12/11/2010

My friends and I were looking for an alternative to the hussle and bussle of the meatpacking district. So based on a recommendation from AccessGotham. com we landed on Honey. The place had a relaxed vibe to it, which was qutie refreshing and everyone from the bouncers to the bartenders were chill. This is one of a few spots I know in the Chelsea area that has a great crowd, good music, and a sweet layout. I'd recommend checking it out. more

Stay Away from this Place 8/16/2010

My friend booked a private party here upon a recommendation from me from my New Years Eve Experience. Unfortunately I regret ever recommending this place, since they treated our private party very rudely. They were rude to one of the guests upon entering the establishment. And they strongly encouraged everyone to partake in the expensive open bar, but the bartender assigned to our party was slow and unfriendly and they cut the open bar off early. We tried to plead to the event manager, but he ignored us, and we were advised by the wait staff the he was the one that cut us off. So I paid $45 for 2 glasses of wine for a 2 hour open bar that only lasted an hour and a half. Upon reading other reviews on this site, I found out this has happened to other parties as well. I will never step foot in this place again. more

A mess 5/17/2010

There were sign from the START I call HONEY to book my Birthday Party, i left TWO message. I also walked in and spoke with the EVENT MANAGER four days before my party, she forgot to E-MAIL I had to e-mail her for the paperwork. The day of my event to the person they had at the DOOR did not want to let ME in for my own party and half of my FRIENDS and FAMILY did not get in to do this person picking WHO he wanted to let in. They put another party right beside my party. They ONLY had TWO bartender for parties and people coming from outsides and ONE person working my event with 25 guest waiting around for DRINKS. I had to look for the MANAGER who came outside with me to get some of my guest from standing out in the RAIN. There was NO room to walk or DANCE. Not GOOD business.\r Pros: That it's on 14 street Cons: To many parties going on at the SAME time. more

The BEST 3/30/2010

We are at this place at least once a week. Most recently had a large group there for St. Patty's day. The atmosphere is awesome, the barmaids are HOT!!! and they make you feel like you have been friends forever...DEFINITELY a place you will want to come back to AGAIN and AGAIN! Pros: Cool Atmosphere, Great Food and Music more

HORRIBLE! 3/13/2010

I was there the Night of the Bulgarian party and it was not up to par. I expected a mix variety of music and all I got was a Bulgarian mix. In response to RandomSynergy comment about that night, I do not recall them playing Hip Hop, Reggaeton, and Salsa until 1am. I was there from 11pm to 2:30am and the only song the DJ played who was hired to play ONLY Bulgarian music was Lady Gaga. \r I spoke to the ‘manager’ whose name I would not disclose and he specifically said that this place was bought out by someone to hold a Bulgarian event and they brought their own DJ. He agreed that he will have the DJ play other mixes to please everyone there; this did not happen! Throughout the remainder of the night I continued to speak to the manager in hopes to get other mixes…at 2:30am I decided to leave and I was not pleased…I would not recommend this place to anyone. \r Why have a calendar on your website and an event planner if you cannot update people with correct information. You should change the name of the club to Curiosity! \r more

Great Service, Great place For A Bday 3/9/2010

I had my Bday this past weekend and like most other place on a Saturday night in NY I was worried about how my guests would be treated and if we would have door drama. I was so pleased by how nice and courteous the entire staff was and they made my Bday go off without a Hitch. I would definitely recommend this place to friends for special events. more

Worst Place 3/8/2010

Booked a private party expecting Hip Hop and Top 40. Come to find out they booked a Bulgarian party playing only Bulgarian music. Asked the DJ to change the music and he said ""ABSOLUTELY NOT"". They double booked the private room and never changed the music..\r \r Don't know what they do on other nights, but not letting me know that there was going to be another party and the music was going to be bias, is not cool... Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. more

Love this Place! 2/23/2010

Honey is one of those rare Gems in NYC, once you know about it - it's hard to forget it. I go there with coworkers often and probably spend more time here than I should but with the friendly staff and warm and cozy setting it's not only great for dates but as a place to party it up on the weekends. Food is good, people are great, drinks are fair and the music is always good! Pros: Good Food options, great for dates, beautiful people, Music! Cons: Street Parking is over @ 11pm. more

Treated horribly by bouncers/staff 11/23/2009

Pass on this bar... A friend of mine had a huge birthday party there (100+) and generously added a significant amount of money to the staffs pockets ($1000's+)However, we were all treated horribly by the bouncers. Of course after the night's tally came in they immediately called him the next day and asked if he'd like to have his Holiday Party there... LMAO... he said no, he'll never be back Cons: After they realize you have money they want you back more

My friend's birthday was a horrible experience here!!!!! 11/13/2009

We all gathered at Honey for my friend's birthday party and paid $45 each for open bar for two hours. Even though we had a private space right next to the bar, we could never get the bartenders to serve us. Granted it was a busy night, but to never wait on our side of the bar at all? You would think that someone's birthday party that brought 35 people into your bar would merit a bit more attention. At 1230a, we were told that the open bar was closed (even though it was supposedly for two hours). So in summary I paid $45 for two bad glasses of wine. Shame me once, shame on you....I will never be going back to Honey. Trust me when I tell you that you shouldn't either. And to the manager of this establishment, get your act together. more

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!! 9/27/2009

i booked my b'day party at honey. the waitress was by far one of the nicest waitress i have ever encountered. she was so gracious and made sure everything was accommodated (from lighting to music to drinks). the bartender was also extremely thoughtful. my friend just dropped a drink he just got (b/c someone bumped into him), the bartender got him another drink on the house. super friendly!! great service!! going back for sure!! :) :) Pros: extremely nice waitress, considerate bartender!! more
