Very pleased with prices and service. I like getting fixed only what needs fixing-NO UPSELLING. I asked about several other parts that another shop had told me needed to be fixed and he told me they did not. Just did a 90,000 mile service on a RX 300 Lexus and it was half the cost of the Lexus dealership. He said he used all new parts as well. He had me drop it off for two days and it was ready on the second day to pick up. I did call each day to make sure it was on schedule more

disorganized ... 7/15/2011

I agree with John J ... mike used to be good but he is totally disorganized now ... called a couple weeks ago - scheduled time to drop it off ... he had it 4 days and kept telling me he would get to it and never did - got tired of waiting and picked it up after 4 days. Mike now has several young guys working for him and I think is in over his head. He is good and honest but he does not follow through or get back to you so good luck if you leave your car with him. I won't be back anymore and I used to like him. more

Worst experience 6/10/2011

I called this person 10 days back and he gave me appointment for 10 days later and asked me to drop the car before 9 AM. I dropped the car at 8:45 AM and left the place. I was waiting for the callback till 1:30 PM. I called and Mike lift the phone and telling still they didn't touch the car. It will take some more time. I went back to shop at around 5 PM and he said you have to come back by Monday. Its pretty disappointing and frustrating. I never recommend anyone to go to this mechanic. I would like to give him 0 rating. Awful..very bad ..experience.... more

From good experience to bad 2/5/2011

We've taken our cars to Holman for some time, but recently I had to rethink things. I bought several tires from Holman &, after quite a few months, one developed a slow leak -- I needed to add air about every six weeks. I went into Holman & asked them to check the tire. They reported that the tire & rim seemed just fine, & they thought remounting the tire would solve the problem. Didn't use the car again until the next day -- a very cold Saturday, about zero degrees. After a couple miles on local roads, the tire simply failed. Completely flat & ruined. I was right next to a tire store, & Holman was closed, so I had them replace the tire. Cost $135. The people at the tire store said they thought the tire failed because the rim hadn't been cleaned well enough when the tire was remounted -- no nails or defects, but the rims was dirty. Called Holman the next business day. They wanted to see the tire: when I brought it in, they too said they couldn't see any problems with the tire. Then things got strange. Holman said he was going to send the tire back to the tire distributor for a pro rated refund. When I asked why, since the tire didn't seem to be the issue, he became kind of difficult to talk with, so I let it go. Mike said he'd call me later that day. Heard nothing. I tried two more times to talk with Holman about the whole thing, but they insisted that the only solution was to get a pro rated rebate from the distributor, even though even Holman said there was nothing wrong with the tire. Several mechanics have told me that, if there's nothing wrong with the tire or rim, Holman must have made a mistake remounting the tire; and that I should get a refund due to the bad remounting job. When I mentioned this, Holman's response was, "You just don't understand how this works." No, I guess I don't. In the end, all I got from Holman was a credit worth about $30 toward a new tire that I don't need. more

Great! My new car fixing place!! 12/22/2008

Just a quick review. I was referred here by a friend and was satisfied right away! I called three shops and Holman was the cheapest for what I needed done and also would be finished the fastest. I was so pleased that I went in a few weeks later for a very very minor issue and Mike Holman took my car in right away and corrected the problem for no cost! I've since referred a family member to the shop and he was satisfied as well. Because of the professionalism of the staff and prompt fixing of my car both times, I will now give all my car business to Holman! more

LOVE IT HERE! 3/6/2008

Are you tired of getting ripped off? Tired of being a female getting scared into paying for repairs because you don't know much about cars? Well, then Holman's is the place you want to go. The other reviews hint that the owner (Mike ) and his staff don't massage your ego. That it takes awhile to get a car in. Well, hello!! They are always busy because he is really really great at what he does. They have moved into a bigger shop so the wait is a little less now too. I guess my experience has been to not wait until I have an emergency to get work done. But I did have my brakes going out on me and he fixed them that day as that IS an emergency. So I wholeheartedly recommend Mike and Jesse to get the work done for a reasonable cost and get it done right. If you want to read other reviews about this shop, I found the ones on Insiderpages.com pretty good-that is how I found these guys... more

The Best! 11/20/2006

Holman Automotive in Eden Prairie? Well, we’ve spent thousands of dollars there getting our many vehicles repaired over the years; but we figure we’ve saved many thousands more than we’ve spent. Mike and Jesse do good work, and if there’s a problem (though there seldom is) after they do a repair, they make it right. We’re not afraid to take our collector car there ‘cause Mike treats it like his own. Yes, sometimes dealing with what others have called the “quirks” of the business is frustrating, but we wouldn’t trust anyone else to work on our cars. Mike is honest and knows more about cars than anyone we know. He’s incredible! more

Not Perfect But Close 11/1/2006

If you have $$ and not much time, go to a dealership's shop. If you don't have much $$ (like most of us) and can leave the car for a whole day, try Holman in EP. He will fix what you want fixed and not give you that old line of - well you have to also fix this and that and etc, etc. running up the bill. Agreed, he won't spend lots of time talking to you, reassuring you or chat about the weather. That is what the dealer's service manager or greeter does. He doesn't charge for a diagnostic and gives you the options. Fix A now for $$ or fix A and B or fix B only. He changed a bulb for free as he fixed a fuel problem and warned me of the leaking water pump. Fix it soon as it will get worse but no dire warnings of being stranded with an overheated engine if I don't do it now. The down-side? You need to call him to get the status of your car, remind him, get estimate, etc., he is just too busy and tends to forget. If you want peace of mind and someone to take away all your car problems, go to the dealership (or buy a new car with a warranty). I am satisfied with Mike Holman, quirks (humor?) and all. more

Very trustworthy and honest mechanic 10/31/2006

I really find it annoying when I see, "he's not fast enough" or whining about it taking a week to get in. He has a tremendous reputation and he's an honest mechanic, of course he's busy. I've been bringing my cars to him for years now. I found him in the first place, because he came highly recommended by two of my co-workers who have used him exclusively for years. After years of going to him for everything, I've NEVER had a problem with my repairs. He's exceptional, honest and doesn't price gouge you. He won't add-on repairs that aren't necessary like many other mechanics do, he tells you what is wrong, what could cause a problem down the road and what he can do etc. I've never had a problem with something that should have been fixed, not being fixed and in an emergency - I always get in. As far as other maint, you have to make appointments with every other professional in your life, what makes you think you wouldn't have to with an honest mechanic with a great reputation? He's busy and booked up for a reason - he's GREAT! I can't count how many bad repairs and even BAD oil changes I've rec'd prior to going to Holman's. I wouldn't trust any other mechanic with my family's vehicles. I can not praise this mechanic enough. He's a great person, he's straight-forward (he's not a "salesman", he's not going to schoomze you, maybe some people need that sort of treatment) and a pleasure to deal with. more

Honest and Affordable 10/3/2006

My parents have been taking their cars to Mike for years so naturally when I bought my car, I took it to Mike. Some people have posted that he is rude, but I think it's just a matter of understanding his personality - he's got kind of a sarcastic sense of humor. Just yesterday I went out there to order new tires for my car. The tires I had picked out apparently only last for around 20,000 miles so Mike suggested some others that are the same price and will last twice as long. Come on, how many mechanics are going to take that much of a money hit just so you'll have decent tires? True, there is usually a wait to get in, but I'll take it in order to have the peace of mind that my mechanic is looking out for my best interest and not just the bottom line. more

Not worthwhile 1/14/2006

I did not have a very good experience with Holman. The person there was very rude. He so called " repaired " my vehicle twice and even though I knew my vehicle was not driving smoothly he kept on saying that it was just fine. To get a second opinion I showed my vehicle to another store and they fixed it in two hours in less than two hundred dollars and i had spent 600$+ and two weeks of my time on Holman.I will never go there. more

cheapest one around 11/18/2005

Well..hollman is sure the cheapest one around. that i guess is its only advantage. it generally takes a week's waiting time for the car to get the due attention it wants. Even after the car is delivered one cant be sure that the problem has been solved. To top it all the staff there is very rude and are nowhere near polite.I have not had a very good experience with hollman . As i said before you may get the repair done at a less cost but at the expense of quality more

An Honest Mechanic 7/7/2005

If you are looking for an honest mechanic, this is the place to go. The shop is located conveniently near Eden Prairie Center and it's run by it's owner, Mike Holman, who you can trust to give you an honest assessment of your problem and a fair price to fix it. You might have to wait to get your car an appointment, as it's a small shop, but it's well worth the wait. more
