Best theater in PDX, recently repainted 6/1/2012

Best theater in PDX, recently repainted and outfitted with new seats, screens and surround sound; it's a true Portland treasure. Run by volunteers, the whole feel of it is truly special with many original features left in tact. A quality date choice and lots of not-to-be-missed features. I love you, Hollywood Theater! more

AWFUL Customer Service 8/16/2006

For me, the first phone call to a business is a deal-maker or deal-breaker. I was treated very rudely within 30 seconds of the phone call as I was inquiring about a movie that was playing but not posted on their web site. The employee told me, ""I don't have time for you. I have to go."" While I understand what it means to get busy at work, I fell that any business that can't handle a one minute phone call does not deserve my money. more

Hollywood Theatre 5/9/2003

This cinema should be frequented by anyone who appreciates foreign and independant films, especially those films that are played no place else in the Portland area. It's downstairs main theatre is a spacious throw-back to a day gone by and has a very large screen and you can only hope the film you are seeing is in this particular cinema. The other upstair theatres are quite averge and should be renovated a bit more, but they do allow for more than just one film to play at a time. Pros: Hard to find films, Fabulous lower cinema, price Cons: needs more renovating more

There were usually a dozen kids or so rioting in the first row all throughout the film, spitting on the floor and throwing popcorn. There was also a sizeable hole in the men's bathroom, from which you could see the street. Thankfully, times have changed and the theater has been restored. It's now a classy art-house theater--and still cheaper than a matinee at a first-run Regal house. Pros: Historic more
