Editorial review from Citysearch 6/14/2013

***THIS VENUE IS NOT CLOSED***.... it was once called Tidal Wave, noted for it's wonderful seafood menu. The name was changed by Proprietor/Chef Juan Mercado in 2005 to Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill and expanded it's space making room for comfortable seating, full bar and a stage for weekly entertainment..... i.e. Promoter Dolores Petersen's Showcase - Open Mic / Jam every Thursday evening, which has become quite popular for locals and out of town visitors with some of L.A.'s finest musicians (both instrumentalists and vocalists). \r \r Thursdays, starting at 7pm, It is especially recognized for seasoned, world noted Jazz musicians Karen Hernandez (p), Tony Dumas (b) Ralph Penland (d) and vocalist Dolores Petersen hosts. Visiting international guests make this a memorable spot to be part of as an eager audience or even on occasion perform with this primo in-house trio to comp them with the music of America's Songbook. \r \r The menu, continental cuisine, is not pricey, there's loads of free parking and it's close to public transportation. .... ""in it's own little corner of Hollywood in historical Gower Gulch, east of Vine on Sunset Blvd."" more

Surprisingly Good! 8/15/2011

Not sure why, but I had low expectations when I came here and was really impressed with the food. Both my wife and I loved the pasta dishes we ordered. Prices were very affordable. Service was also prompt and polite. I recommend. more

Awesome vibe, great entertainement. 6/26/2008

Yes the name is now Hollywood Studio Grill & Bar. I love going there for the monthly shows. A real nice spot with talented artist everywhere and great place to network (during the shows, not sure other days). Bar is average price. Drinks are small but strong so they balance each other for the price :) I haven't really tried their food but the vibe is awesome. Completely recommend going to the events. more

The Best Seafood in LA 9/15/2006

This place is a regular for me and my family. All their seafood is fresh and they serve large servings for a decent price. Their poached salmon salad is my favorite. A huge piece of salmon covers a bed of mixed spring greens and asparagus. The salmon is covered with large chunks of ripe mango and avacado. The dressing is a sweet honey mustard that they should bottle and sell. It is that delicious! Pros: Wonderful Food, Excellent Service, Good Prices more

Great place! 5/6/2006

Simply great food, friendly atmosphere with no frills, fantastic value, very attentive staffs, and convenient parking (no need to valet)! Their halibut was just excellent! There is also a full-bar with a flat-screen TV over it. A little obscure to find - it's inside a Rite-aid mall at Sunset & El Centro. Pros: Great food/value, Friendly staffs, Good parking more

Hidden, but worth finding 8/28/2005

Definately not a prime location, but the service was tremendous and the food was tasty for everyone in my party. I can definately recommend the Druncken shrimp and anhattan clam chowder, and the deserts are worth saving a bit of room at the end. The restaurant was far from crowded, but I cannot attribute the lack of attendance to either the foor or the service. more

A Real Treasure 1/16/2005

This place was my first find when I moved to LA. Polite staff doesn't mind if you're dining alone. Service is polite, quick & helpful with days' specials. I eaten here at least once a week for over a year and never get tired of their food. Friends sometimes think I've taken them to an ordinary coffee shop, but afer their food arrives realize it couldn't be farther from the truth. I've never had a bad meal here; menu ranges from good to excellent. Try the meatloaf!! Pros: food quality, big portions, good waitstaff more

Good Food!! 11/19/2004

If you are looking for good seafood place, this is a good place to visit. The main dishes are excellent, they also have their homemade mash potato and some dipping sauces I believe. The dessert tastes good too! I don't know how busy this place is, but we went there on a thursday night, and we get prompt seating. Parking is not really a problem for us as the restaurant is in a little mall. Pros: Excellent food, Good service, easy parking more

Excellent Food 9/15/2003

The food and the place is great. The value is awesome. The Filet Mignon is truly the best I've tasted compared to other restaurants. The pasta is also great. The service is great. The waiters are very attentive and very polite. The atmosphere is very comfortable and romantic. This is truly a MUST for those who want good food for any ocassion. One word: AWESOME! Pros: Great Value, Good Food, Great Service Cons: Closed Sundays more

Best Six Dollar Burger 6/28/2002

I love their burgers here. Served with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cooked to order, this might be the best burger in Hollywood. The tuna burger isn't bad either, but the beef one rocks! The restaurant is located in Gower Gulch, you know that Old West looking mini mall on Sunset. There's lots of parking, so you don't have to worry about that. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. Sometimes there's even a live band performing. Pros: great burgers, not too pricey, live bands Cons: can get crowded more
