I have sponsored a yearbook in the area for almost 20 years and have worked with Holland Studios those many years. I have also had two daughters photographed at Holland their senior years. I have come to know the owner and his Holland family and know that they work hard to produce the absolute best product for our students. I have heard comments about why a school has to use one studio for its senior portraits for years. My answer is the same every year. These kids get one time to have their pictures in that senior section and it should be the best section in that book. If we accepted portraits from different studios, imagine what a variation these portraits would be. ""You know, Uncle Joe just set up a studio in his garage and I have a portait with this cool fishnet background,"" is just one of the comments I have had. My school has had from 250 to 350 seniors. Can you imagine the nightmare of collecting pictures from all those students from every studio in town. When students get all pictures made at the same studio, the book and the composite that goes on the wall for a very long time just looks GREAT! \r Students call me in the summer (and email me now!) to tell me what a great experience Holland gave them.\r Just a couple of weeks ago, a mother met me in the grocery and expressed the joy of sharing the picture time with her son. She said that Holland made her year since she was able to see her son some in so many different beautiful settings. \r I want to thank Holland for all it has done for our students over the past thirty something years. Highly Recommend - Wonderful Experience 6/7/2009

Both of our daughters used Holland for their senior portraits and we were extremely pleased not only with the photographer and his professionalism, but with the extra effort they put into getting just the right shot. We have also had Holland take bridal portraits for both of our daughters and the experience was just as wonderful. Little things that we didn't even notice were addressed by the photographer to make sure the best portrait possible resulted. We are so proud to have portraits by Holland in our home! Top 10 Worst Photography Studios in Memphis 4/30/2009

This is one of the worst studios I have ever used for portraits. The photographers we met the day we were there looked and acted like they were photography students or amateurs! After the cap and gown session we knew we would not purchase any photos from them much less waste our time with the casual photos we wanted for our senior. \r \r I'm glad to see they do not have our high school listed for 2010; I have another child graduating in 2011 and would hate to deal with studio again. My guess is the school received enough complaints to realize we didn't need to try another year with them. Any quality, professional studio will offer to take the required photos for the yearbook and forward them to the school without being the designated studio for the yearbook.\r \r My hope is we can get our high school to look at this option before my second child graduates. We went to another photographer for the casual picks we wanted and they turned out GREAT! They spent 3 hours outdoors taking various poses and charged me $45 which included (2) 8x10's with that price. At least when my child looks back at the pictures 20 years from now he will see awesome casuals taken at the same time the crappy tux and gap & gown photos were taken. He'll realize he wasn't the problem; Holland was!\r \r For those who weren't satisfied with Holland; make sure you share your experiences with your child’s school and help prevent this studio and it's poor work being forced upon future graduates. Holland has redeemed themselves! 10/1/2008

Mr. Shappley called again after what I felt was a very rude encounter I wrote about earlier. He apologized! He was more patient this go-around and explained in more detail the reasons they do what they do. While I still do not agree that all should be demanded to use a particular photographer, I do believe Holland, because of Mr. Shappley, has redeemed themselves in my eyes. I honor anyone who does what is right...FOR THE CUSTOMER...regardless of their personal opinion on the matter. Thank you Mr. Shappley. Pros: Admirable Owner more

Unbelievable! 4000 customers!!! 10/1/2008

Just got off the phone with Jay Shappley, perhaps the owner of Holland. He's just as rude, if not more so, than those which answer the phone the first several times we've called. ""Ms. _____, do you honestly think we would have any appointments? We plainly told the students at school to have pictures made in JUNE.?Uh, what? NO>>>>>you did say you have from _____ until Oct. ___ (now I know it's the 3rd). He called me a liar; he called my son a liar. Neither of us are liars. We called, several times, over the last month and we were told to call back! Period. Mr. Shappley says ""you are only 1 customer out of 4000 so..."". Pros: Arrogant, rude, owner. A real gem. Needes better customer service 9/23/2008

I agree that the high school should have more then one studio for the students to choose from , they are so booked and that is up to the school to choose the studio I feel like that is not fair for students and the parents only one studio for all the students and they half to turn you away or they take a few picture and then you half to retake the other pictures, all hign school need to look into to having more then one studio , also I know of people all over the united states that use other studios and you can view them on line and that makes it very easy for for everyone , as more as this studio charges they should be doing more for there customers more

Awsome Sitting! 7/30/2008

I highly recommend Hollins To anyone needing pictures taken. They have great Customer service and the photographers are great! We got in and out in about 45 minutes! I am awating the proofs as i write this but i bet they will be better than ever expected. I will go here for any other photograpy needs! Pros: Friendly Customer Service and Fast! Cons: None i can think of more

Under appreciated 5/21/2008

So many people who write reviews do so because they themselves don't do anything and thus have the time to do so. Because of this they have no idea what it is like to work in customer service. People who work in customer service have my sympathy because the general public are crabby, unhappy, and people who are looking for reasons to complain by nature. Having said this my experience at Holland Studio of Professional Photography was exceptional. I have been to many other photography studios in the Memphis area and in the southern region of the U.S. (where I used to live) and Hollands' facility is head and shoulders above anything I have ever seen. You would never think that a studio who's main line of business is school photography would make such an effort to build a quality place for Seniors to get their pictures taken especially when this is something that is only done in the summertime and not year round! I was fortunate enough to have a daughter that did her Senior pictures there and will be looking forward to my son doing the same this coming Summer. The customer service aspect was phenominal and I am excitingly anticipating working with the people who seem to love what they do again in the following months. more

Bad customer service 4/30/2008

I had a situation with my child that I discussed with someone who answered the phone about a month ago. We were wanting to order her graduation announcements from Holland Studio. I explained to the person who answered the phone that we would not be ordering until the end of April. She told me that it would only take a week to get the announcements in. When I called today to place the order I was told that it would be 4-6 weeks. I repeated to her the earlier conversation and I was told that the lab was behind and there would be no way the announcements could be done in time. I am very upset with this incorrect information that I was given. This is poor customer service!! I would have taken the chance of being out the money and ordered earlier if I was given the correct information. Now we are struggling to find some other way to get some announcements printed. I have one more child to graduate and I will make sure Holland Studio does not get another penny from me! Pros: beautiful pictures Cons: bad customer service more

i highly recommend this studio for anyone getting any pictures taken. everyone there is extremely nice and go out of there way to make you happy.all the photographers are very experienced and everthing is well worth the money. the front desk girls are soooo nice and cute, go in and see them ! Glitch in Communication 9/19/2007

I would have appreciated a person answering your initial phone call to be able to provide me with more information. A business should be able to tell me what to expect. Told me the photographers schedule this or that & she said she didn't know much about the package deals they offered to groups. \r \r Sounds more like a lack of communication internally. My advice is that whoever is in charge should try to make sure all employees are given the information they need to better represent the company from your first call until you write your last check.\r \r As the front desk person, you can only give the information that is given to you & therefore, your customers.\r \r No review yet on the actual photographs because my appointment is not until next month. more

Extremely poor customer service 9/19/2006

I called for an appointment and was not given the complete details. When I callled the day of the appointment the manager argued with me. saying information was provided that was not , and literally called me a liar. Because this was the only studio our high school uses for yearbook pictures I had no choice but to use them, but I was not happy spending my money where the quality of service was substandard at best. I will talk to my childs high school about offering an alternate studio so that parents have a choice and and can patronize those who they feel offers them the best overall package in regards to service ,quality of photography and convenience. Cons: guest service was extremely poor!!!! more
