Best Dive Bar in Los Angeles 10/4/2010

I found this place on Citysearch and went to check it out. I had no idea what was in store but it was definitely well worth it. The staff was very personable and the scene was great. You don't have to be a local to come check it out. The bartender introduced herself and called me by name all night. She also recommended the sweet potato fries which were to die far. The music selection was also an additional plus. All the locals and people inside the bar were super friendly and it is a great place to come even if you are drinking solo. Check it out!!!! more

Great local spot for drinks and food 9/29/2010

I love going to the bounty, the food is great, the drinks are great and so is the staff. I always enjoy myself when I am there, If you sit at the bar you will always be entertained by the regulars who are very welcoming. They have great sandwiches and burgers, I have seen some of the other dishes that look great too, fish and chips, pork chops and a special of the day. As they are near my office I go quite often, but they are a great spot if you are going to the Wiltern for a show, you can grab a quick drink and bite before you go. more

favorite neighborhood joint 2/16/2010

Now THIS is a cool joint, everybody. HMS bounty has been around for a while, and its certainly earned good reviews. I like the weird quality - the decorations are really fun. The drinks are a tad strong, and the prices are of course a little high, but I love this place! Of course, it is within walking distance to my homne. more

Old Hollywood Revisited 7/30/2008

Started going to the Bounty when I first moved to LA. There was some sort of fascination everytime I passed that Food & Grog sign. What the hell was that? The first time I ventured there, my old college roommate and I sat at the Jack Webb table with the high back red booth. Each time was a different table with a different celebs name on the gold plaque on the wall. Always enjoyed having Kathy serve us (she appeared in ""Pillow Talk""), although she's since retired. The place became a second home, so much so that I had my rehearsal dinner there. If you want old Hollywood at old Hollywood prices....the Bounty is da place for you. Keep the business going...it'll be a shame if it goes like the Derby, Chasen's, the Ambassador and others. more

Where Everybody Knows Your Name.... 10/10/2007

My friend discovered this hidden gem and took me there for lunch one day and I fell in LOVE!!!! The old salty patrons that have been coming for 30+ years, the former busboy turned owner, and the sweet barmaid all make this my favorite place to hide in the middle of the day. I can personally tell you they make some pretty stiff drinks and the soups and burgers are to die for. I plan on trying the fish and chips or cobb salad next. I look forward to my weekly voyages on the high seas in the middle of Koreatown. If you decide to pay them a visit tell 'em Dolly and Herb sent ya. :) Pros: The people, the food, and the decor! Cons: Parking or lack there of.... more

best dive in LA 6/24/2007

on the first floor of the GAYLORD apartments in koreatown, the HMS Bounty serves amazingly strong drinks, has great decor and is just amazing, i love it...top 5 bars in LA ...food is decent, only ate once years ago... Pros: decor, strong drinks Cons: parking, at times more

Great Food...Fantastic Value 5/21/2006

I just love this place so much. It's NOT Trendy, NOT Hip and Definetly NOT In-Style. That's what is so good about it. This is your classic 1930's Restaurant & Bar. Dark wood interior, red naughahyd (sp?) booths, very old school. It's a comfy environment to just hang-out, chat, meet people, etc... Sit at the bar, you're bound to meet on old-timer that was a journalist or reporter, that will be happy to spend an hour telling all his war-stories, or curl up in big cushy red booth with your sweethart. The food here is very good and an exceptional value. They have various specials every day, that are always available (no time restrictions). A complete dinner for $8.95, that just can't be beat anywhere else. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Prices Cons: Parking more

Owner Message
  • The HMS Bounty Restaurant-Bar, still with its original old Hollywood interior and famous steaks and seafood, attracts an eclectic crowd. On any given night at the bar, you may sit next to an actor, comedian, rocket scientist, journalist, chef or a host of other fascinating people with anecdotes about the Vietnam war, jazz musicians of the past, 40s and 50s Los Angeles and other topics that should someday be collected and immortalized. At the same time, the restaurant has become known to Gen X'ers as a great hang. Or if you are looking for a place to grab a bite or drink before or after a show at The Wiltern Theatre, we are just down the road. While in our classic relaxed nautical bar you can enjoy everything from the most distinct Scotch Whiskeys, to our famous apple martinis and more.

Editorial
  • The Scene
There are a few portholes on the walls and models of tall ships here and there, but the dark wood interior and low-beamed ceiling are what really give off the feeling of being...
