missed the entire first half due to seats 12/21/2014

Attended the Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker 12/20 at 5 pm. Family of three. Sat in the Left Orchestra seats row CC . The slope of the inside of this first tier is not steep enough to garner a view of the stage floor. Simply put - multiple rows of patrons were unable to see the dancers legs and were only able to see short glimpses of the outer perimeters of the stage. Seats feel like you are in the back of the coach section of an airplane. Ushers sit down in the outer two to seats of the back rows thus taking away your opportunity to move around for a chance at a better view. The Fox Theater in Atlanta is far more opulent in its design. Staff were trained well, well spoken and each appeared to be focused on their job. Perhaps there are other places in this theater that have a better view even when the theater is sold out. more

Beware before attending! 3/6/2011

If you are tall, you will be miserable at this theatre. I am 6'1" and i could not sit without spreading my legs outside the chair in front of me. This, of course, caused me to bang legs with the man sitting next to me. Also, the seats are VERY narrow. What were they thinking? Were they so caught up in getting more seats in the theatre than the over all comfort of their customers? The theatre is beautiful to look at, but painful to sit in. The stage also seemed smaller than normal to me. I saw Les Mis there and the sound quality was also lacking. This is my 5th time seeing Les Mis and the sound quality was by far the worst I've ever experienced. It almost had a hollow sound. I am used to being engulfed by the music of Les Miserables, and this show left me wanting more. I was very disappointed in this theatre. I expected much more. more

New Theatre in Baltimore 12/29/2005

The Hippodrome is Baltimore's newest theater and is the location of most shows these days. I have only been once but am going again for a second time in February. We had to wait in the lobby before the doors were opened to the actual theater part. But there were several benches along the wall which were nice to sit on and just look around at the new building. They were selling merchandise for the artist who I was there to see as well as sodas and light snacks. The actual theater is beautiful. We were seated in the very back but there is still a nice view from back there. It's smaller than the Lyric theater but still gives a great experience for any show! more

finally 10/11/2005

Finally there is a decent theater in Baltimore. We now can see those great New York plays here in town. The Hipodrome Theater has been completely renovated inside and out and it's stunning. So stunning that even the Miss America pageant chose to use this venue. This is a definite must-see. more

old fashioned theater graces Baltimore 8/31/2005

The France Merrick Peforming Arts Center, home to the newly refurbished Hippodrome Theater, has an old-fashioned air to it. Inside and out, you feel transported back to the days when theater was IT. The work done inside is beautiful, acoustics are excellent, and there are few, if any, "bad seats." The Theater attracts a variety of big-name broadway shows, so you can see great performances without traveling to NYC. Great place for a "fancy" date, though you'll need to travel outside the immediate block for a good restaurant--but there are plenty to be had nearby. more

Great place to catch a show 8/20/2005

The Hippodrome theater, which is now open after an extensive renovation, is a good place to catch one of the many traveling shows that stops by Baltimore. The theater itself is gorgeous. I have seen the traveling productions of Rent and the Lion King, and they were excellent. Be careful when you leave the theater, though...it's in a rather sketchy area. more

Theater is Back in Baltimore 8/4/2005

The Hippodrome Theater has been newly restored and renovated and now Baltimore has theater back like we haven't had in a while! With shows such as "The Lion King", "Little Shop Of Horrors", "Phantom of the Opera" among others traveling through the Hippodrome as well as occasional concerts and other performers, the Hippodrome is adding some more culture to the city. A gorgeous building with amazing acoustics, the Hippodrome is a great place to spend an evening. more

lovely building! 8/4/2005

If you like concerts, the kids shows,or music, the Hippodrome is the place for you. Recently restored and reopened,it was 4 buildings turned into one performing arts center with a auditorium with 2,286 seats. They did a wonderful job restoring it and the architecture is absolutely amazing. The outside sign is a replica of a 1920's sign that once hung there. more
