We used to live in this city and this is one we missed. We went for the happy hour 3-6pm. The conjee and fried donuts were the best we've ever had. We also ordered the potstickers...

The congee had no taste and consisted pretty much of water, rice and some meat. For $4 you can do better in Chinatown. The chinese doughnuts were pretty good and cheap. Given the ...

Hing Lung 7/13/2006

I'm a huge fan of chinese rice porridge, aka congee, aka jook, and I've been wanting to visit this place for ages since they are purported to be the best in the city. Prices are dirt cheap, service is truly awful, and setting is slightly grungy...but there must be 15 types of porridge on the menu! Serving sizes are generous and the porridge is served steaming hot and the grains of rice are cooked down into a congealed gooey mess, just the way I love it. They also offer up fresh made chinese doughnuts (not sweet) or fried bread to tear up and eat with the porridge. My favorite porridge is century egg and shredded chicken or pork. The perfect asian comfort food. They also have good, cheap noodle dishes and other entrees. more

Hing Lung is located on Broadway in San Francisco, Chinatown. The size of the restaurant isn't that big and the service is mediocre. The pros are that they have a wide selection of food, awesome poridge (which they're somewhat popular for), and good pricing. It's not too expensive and they do have lunch specials where plates are $2.50 each. If you're looking for an inexpensive lunch or dinner and crave some chinese food without expecting a fancy meal, this is the place for you. more

Good place for dim sum 7/18/2005

The food here is pretty good, and the prices are low, but there isn't anything that sets this place apart from all the other places in Chinatown. The service was pretty fast, but you can go pretty much anywhere else in Chinatown and get the same thing you get here. Don't get me wrong here, this is a great place to get good dim sum for a low price. Just try the other places too, don't stick to just one place when you're in Chinatown. more
