Highlander Inn

I am unable to give a complete review because this place is completely discriminatory. Today I attempted to go into the office of the Highlander Inn because I was in town visiting my sister for the night and there was no room in her apartment for me and my boyfriend to stay there. As I approached the office, the lady peeked out at us through the window, and we couldn't get in because the door was locked. She said, ""Sorry, we don't have any rooms available,"" and went back to her business. Our car was one of only two cars in the parking lot. Now, my boyfriend and I are in our early 20s and have piercings and tattoos, but are well-mannered and quiet, but it seemed like she dismissed us because of how we looked. So when I got home, I found the number, and asked if they had any vacancies for the night. She passed the phone to the owner (male), who said, ""Yes, we have vacancies."" I asked for the rate, then politely said I'd check back later and hung up. Well, I'm sure if I came back to the office, all the rooms will magically be filled. And based on other reviews I've read since then, I'm not sure I want to go back. Decide for yourself if you think you look decent enough to get a room at this rundown motel. more

I was in town visiting friends and family, and needed a cheap place to stay for the night. Someone told me the rates there were very affordable. One of my friends stopped by to visit me. He hadn't been in the room 10 minutes when the owner called me down to the office to tell me that I couldn't have anyone come stay with me. I told him the friend was just visiting, but he kept giving me the 3rd degree about it... like I was doing something wrong by having someone stop in to say, ""Hi, great to see you in town."" I told him my friend would be leaving shortly, which he did less than 15 min later. Even though my friend had left, and the owner saw him leave, the owner walked passed my room and tried to peek in the windows several times throughout the night. I felt violated and definitely would never, ever stay there again or recommend anyone else stay there either. If it weren't for the super low rates, I don't think anyone would stay there. It's a complete sty and the creep-factor is off the chart. more

My cousin stayed at this establishment late this summer. She was alone. She cut her stay short because she became frightened to remain. The owner/manager came to her room and told her that he was going to search it . When she protested he said it was company policy that all rooms be searched on Sundays and pushed past her and looked in her drawers, refridgerator and left. He was not seen going to any other rooms. The few other guests wer men or couples. On thursday a lady friend of ours & I were visiting her when this same man came down and put his nose right against the window, cupped his hands around his eyes and piered in moving his head to see as much of the room as possible. When she went to the door to inquire as to what he wanted. He started screaming at her that her friend had to check in with him and tell him their business with her was before they could go to her room. (Note that all the room entrances were on the outside of the building. ) During his tantrum he also said that she ""couldn't have her friends lounging around her room all day. We had been ther 45 minutes at most. When we protested and said he was over stepping his rights that we didn't have to tell him our business with my cousin he started saying that we were fighting & thats why he could do that. This was a total falsehood, we were talking and laughing about a show she had watched. He left us all frightened. I was nervous about leaving her alone there over night . She was able to make arrangements to go to another motel the next morning and checked out. She had originally planned to stay there at least 3 weeks. Pros: good location Cons: Safety for a woman alone is questionable, harrassment at the least, no housekeeping to the room in a week and the room was dirty when she checked in. more
