Reading all these reviews make me wonder how this establishment is still in business... this place shouldn?t even be categorized as a business- it?s a breeding ground for high school dropouts who can?t get a job pumping gas. This maintenance free, low budget gravel parking lot is where some people go to drop a couple hundred dollars (of their hard earned cash) to pick up a car (that they already own) when it gets wrongfully towed. These lowlife criminals threaten you with a $35 per day lot fee if you wish to appeal it. Then there?s the $40 admin fee, etc. I offered him cash hoping he would cut me a break- waste of time. After you fork over a few hundo?s to these shysters, they give you an ?itemized? receipt. Obviously these guys aren?t up to date with technology because the receipt paper is a pizza pad from a pizzeria. **shout-out to Anthony Franco?s- this guy is keeping you in business from his appearance** He threw the pizza receipt paper on the counter and it looked like chicken scratch. Did this guy write with his feet or was there a baby under the desk scribbling these out?! The only legible article on the receipt was the price. I truly can?t believe I rented multiple cars from this place. I will never step foot in this place again, especially if I have to come in contact with that fat, ignorant, disrespectful, sleaze stack that resides on the chair behind the counter. \r \r Also, Hank?s review below hit the nail on the head. That?s a clever and honest man. more

My friend told me that he recently had his car towed by Powder Mill Towing in Parsippany, NJ. This reminded me of an experience I had with them about 10 years ago. After breaking down on Route 287; Powder Mill Towing showed up and promptly loaded my car onto their flatbed. They assessed the failure at their garage; they said it was the water pump. Although I usually go to a mechanic in the next town, it would have cost me more to have the car towed to my regular shop than to replace the water pump (according to their estimate of $450). They had me right where they wanted me. I authorized the repair and they said I?d have the car in 3 days. I had to rent a car for about a week; they claim they were sent the wrong pump (somehow, that's my fault). After forking over $813.90 (tow, water pump and labor), I drove the car home. After a week, something just didn?t seem right. I went to my regular mechanic. He said the belt that serpentines around the various pulleys on the engine was installed incorrectly and caused damage to other parts of my engine. He asked who had done the work. I was embarrassed to tell him that it was Powder Mill Towing. He said that those guys are a bunch of shysters. He felt sorry for me, unlike the corrupt, depraved, immoral cast of characters at Powder Mill Towing. My regular mechanic repaired the slipshod work performed by Powder Mill Towing's incompetent ""mechanic"" for a fraction of the price. Do yourself a favor; avoid dealing with this establishment at all costs! more

Robbed me for $220. They said I was parked illegally, when there were no signs stating I wasn't permitted to park there. $220 to tow my car less than a mile away. THIEVES! more

Probably should differentiate with Powder Mill. You are dealing with two different businesses. The repair shop is crooked as the day is long. I have lived in Parsippany for a while and basically no one repeats to them, they make all their repair money off people they pull off the highways for AAA who don't know who else to go to. Stay away from them at all costs. \r \r The towing business is mixed. I have had some good experiences some bad, It sort of depends on the driver you draw, some have been very good, others really rude and nasty. Pretty much luck of the draw. As far as I know they are the only game in town in Parsippany though so you are kind of stuck with them. But remember if your car doesn't run, DONT let them tow you to their shop, you will regret it. more

Con artists operate this Towing outfit, not only did they quote my customer 3 different storage charges but demanded ""cash only"" also. Shame on Parsippany for even allowing these pos to do business with them. They must have gotten a relative to actually write a good review. Hope one of your trucks never gets impounded in my town when I'm on police duty J.O. more

My daughters VW lost the water pump on Labor Day weekend while traveling Rt 287 in Parsippany, a half hour from home. I called AAA and they sent Powder Mill Towing. They offered a 10% discount if I let their shop do the work. I agreed and had to wait until the shop opened again on Tuesday to get the repair done. They finished the repair, new timing belt, thermostat and water pump on Tuesday. I picked up the car that evening. I was allowed to pay with a credit card but had already read in other reviews that they wanted cash only. I did pay in cash and received a small discount.\r The work has held up for 4 months so far.\r They were courteous, quick and neat.\r I have a brother-in-law that lives in town and uses them for regular repairs with no problem. more

Extremely shady business. There are no posted charges for towing. Workers are rude and I overheard the two guys at the front desk discussing overcharging the poor lady who left before me. Please take your business elsewhere. They prey on people in need of immediate assistance. more

Run for your life!!! They left me broken down in the left-hand lane for 2.5 hrs. All the while, lying to me, saying to me twice ""we'll be there in 15 minutes."" Come to find out from the driver, the call came in at 1:49pm, and they didn't even give it to him until 3:45pm. They are liars - they lied to me, and to AAA. They could have cared less about the danger I was in. \r The Rev. Stephanie Wethered\r St. Peter's, Essex Fells\r more

Biggest con artists of all time!!! Should be basically prosecuted! My car was towed there after an accident. They didn't not notify me of any fees. Once I came to pick the car up the same day. They made up a $225 charge! For towing me for 1/2 mile from the accident. $125 for towing, $35 for storage, $40 for administrative (no idea what they administer). And some other bs charges. I tried to argue but the guy basically threaten me that either I pay now or he is closing shop and I will pay for another day of ""storage"". I was shocked! Really? That's what you do? Make money on ppl who have just been in an accident.\r \r I hope they get prosecuted for it one day. more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! They will take you for the ride of your life. I have a 95 volkswagen jetta and my car broke down at my college campus. I took it to pep boys first because I thought the timing belt went but i found out it had an electrical issue. One of the tow truck drivers at powder mill said they could fix it, so two days goes by and the cost for all of the work came out to 1,000 dollars and they basically just gave the car a tune up. When i went to pick it up I come to find out it wasn t fully fixed. It was driving worst then it ever did before so i had to keep it there. They then kept it for over a month first fixing the ecm and then saying it needed a new wire harness. they fixed the ecm but they didn t do anything with the wire harness and charged me and extra 750 dollars. When i went to pick it up and get it towed to the dealer they basically took my whole car apart, my battery was in the trunk and my wire harness was not properly put back in the car. Currently the car is still not fixed and is at the dealer right now and I m probably going to have to put out another grand to get it fixed right. hugest mistake going to these a** holes. There disrespectful and negligent when it comes to your property. more

I've lived in town for 20 years and used Powder Mill whenever I needed towing, as they were the local AAA company. Never had any bad experiences with towing. I recently needed to tow my car to have some work done and saw these reviews and had some second thoughts, but decided to go ahead an use them. They arrived promptly, I was impressed by the drivers towing skills, he had boards to lift the rear of my car up to avoid scraping the low tailpipe of my car as it was lifted onto the bed. He removed the car with equal car at my mechanics location and although he was over the allotted AAA mileage, he didn't charge me extra. All in all I was very happy and would recommend them for towing. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! 11/17/2011

INCREDIBLY DISHONEST. My alternator gave out and i got towed here by AAA on my way to Pittsburgh. I have worked as a mechanic for 5 years, so i know when i'm being cheated. The manager quoted me $600 for the job ($300 for parts, $300 for labor)!!! I knew this was way too high so I called a NAPA a mile down the road and asked for a price on a rebuilt alternator, they told me $120. I called 4 other shops in the area and asked what they would charge for labor, all said between 1 and 1.5 hours (ALLDATA says 1.2hrs for the job). At $90/hr this is $135. I called them back and asked why they were overcharging. They said that they use ALLDATA too and it said 3.5hrs. This was a blatant lie. I requested a rebuilt alternator and the manager said he would drop the price down to $350 (which was still too high). I said fine because I already spent one night in a hotel and needed to be in pittsburgh that night. When i came to pick up the car, they gave me a bill for $550 dollars and basically told me more

Dishonest. They tried to charge me $600 for a $250 dollar job. My alternator gave out and I got towed here by AAA on my way to Pittsburgh. I have worked as a mechanic for 5 years, so I know the tricks. The manager quoted me $600 for the job ($300 for parts, $300 for labor)!!! I said fine because I already spent one night in a hotel and needed to be in pittsburgh that night. When i came to pick up the car, they gave me a bill for $550 dollars and pretty much told me pay it or we'll put you're bad alternator back in. They also ordered me a new dealer alternator instead of a rebuilt like i asked (they make more off the mark-up). I called AAA to report this. They had someone investigate and refunded me the difference in labor cost (about $150), but couldn't get me $200 dollar difference between a new and rebuilt alternator. Avoid these crooks. more
