Helene is very intuitive and actually listens to what you want. She is inexpensive considering the amount of time she spends consulting with you about what you expect from her. more

She's the Best! Only one who I will let cut, color, and perm my hair in over 13 years. She uses the best products and whatever she does comes out perfect. Niow she cuts my daughter's hair and has been since my daughter was 6 months old. Now she's 2 and loves Helene, not to mention the dogs. What a great distraction for her while I get my hair cut. Who needs toys when you have dogs to entertain a child. Pros: fast, reliable, good value more

Best make-up class ever 3/7/2003

I needed a makeover! Helene went step-by step teaching me proper techniques of applying my cleanser toner moistrizer a masque. She even had my feet soaking then showed me how to use a scrub on my feet and hands. They felt like a baby. Onto step by step make-up, what colors to wear and what hairstyle and hair color is best for me. She showed me a two minute updo. I felt renewed. I looked glamorous. Learned more then ever 2/18/2003

I travel for a living so I cannot keep the same hairdresser. In other words I have been to many. This is the first time I learned so much about hair skin and make-up. I also got a great cut and body wave. I plan to return to her even if I have to plan a special trip Pros: easy to talk to, should charge more fo, parking was easy more

I BROGHT IN A PICTURE AND HELENE ANALYZED MY FACE AND WE DETERMINED THAT THE LOOK WOULD WORK FOR ME. i COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT I GOT COLOR AND A BODYWAVE ALL IN ONE DAY! The best Hair & Make-up experience I had 2/4/2003

Another hairdresser really messed up my hair. Thank god I found Helene She advised me to use a specific treatment on my hair before she would touch it. I thought not another product but I was desperate I did it. After one time I saw a difference. I went back to the salon Wow She walked me through what she was doing and believe me she know what she is doing. The color unbelievable. She brought me into 2003 with a new do. Best colorist in the Bay Area 12/14/2002

Been a client for over twenty years. Perfect color every time, and I always leave the decisions to her. Also a great makeup artist and teacher. She shows clients how to use the products to make themselves look terrific! Pros: Good location, Warm atmosphere more

Absolutely the best. I've been going there for years and Helene Rene is great. Good colorist. Great stylist. And Make-up artist. She even sells her own line of make-up and a complete line of Redken products. A one-stop shop. Plus fun location on Union Street. more

Experienced 11/25/2002

Helene has been in the biz a lot longer than the young hipsters at over-priced salons in the Haight. And unlike so many stylists, she wasn't multi-tasking with several clients at once...I had her full attention the entire time. She really listens and offers honest advice. My hair has never felt more healthy and soft. Best haircut and most natural highlights ever! more

shes so great duriing my visit i learned so much about about my face, skin, and better make up application. when i asked for a half inch trim thats exactly what she gave me. she is understanding, and is always willing to help if you have any questions. just liike me she gets up in the morning to put on makeup and helps me to find a more efficent way. Helene knows her business, which is to make you look your best. Even if you're not the most gorgeous gal in town, she knows how to help you make the most of what you've got. She is the best!!! She is the only person I will allow near my hair and has been my hairdresser, confidant, baby watcher and entertainer for over 12 years. She's seen me through spiral perms, hair coloring, highlighting and, of course, cutting and styling. Helene is the only person who has cut my daughter's hair (18months) and my daughter loves her, not crying. She sits very quietly and let's Helene cut. She did this even when she was an infant. She is the best and the only!!!! Pros: Quiet salon, owns business, great value Cons: Chic Area, entertaining dogs, uses best products more

Never have an ugly day! 10/11/2002

Helene Rene has a unique service that is both personal and professional. She came to my house to cut my sister's hair when she had cancer. I don't know of anyone else who would do that. She encourages you to communicate with your hairdresser, and even teaches you how. Because she's on Union Street, there is always somewhere to go for dinner or lunch after.
