member discounts for the lay 6/10/2006

The coop has a huge selection of books, with a cool array of fiction and literature on one of the upper levels. The main level can be looked down upon from the circular balcony of the fiction and literature section. Along the circular path, there are endcaps and tables set up featuring authors or genres. I stumbled upon a Gabriel Garcia Marquez table and had to pick up a few. Upon checkout, even though I wasn't a member, I got a discounted price. I'd like to do away with memberships altogether and let good taste determine the cost! more

Comprehensive, With Chairs 5/13/2006

The sprawling Harvard Coop is notable, even if you've never shopped there, for having one of the very few public bathrooms in Harvard Square. Aside from that, though, this place has dang near everything, including the huge academic-book annex across the footbridge. The magazine section is pretty excellent and abuts a small Starbucks Cafe area filled with students buried in their notebooks. The street level near the Tannery has school supplies and overpriced lotions and gifty things. The Coop has lots of chairs throughout where you can hole up with your book. In the winter you'll see lots of homeless, whom the staff tolerates unless they are problematic - accept it as part of the milieu. Don't confuse the homeless with the infamous absentminded Cambridge professorial type! more

A close second 11/26/2005

to Harvard Bookstore that is but not when it comes seating. This place has comfortable chairs (some with tables) scattered throughout the three story store. While the depth of the selection is not as good as Harvard Bookstore's the overall selection is better than most bookstores in the country. The magazine section is also very good. There is a remainder section in the basement but the selection there is never very good. For best results come here on a rainy or snowy afternoon and stack up your reading selection and coffee from the café in front of you. It will be hard to remember that you are in a bookstore not your own personal library. more

Coop 10/10/2005

The Coop at Longwood has all your essentials for a new college student or even a bored hospital visitor--a small version of Barnes and Noble, some clothes (both Boston and Harvard Medical School affliated) and downstairs it has some snack type foods and then the textbook section. What you get in convinience, it lacks in affordability. Its way overpriced. For homewares, just make the trip to Bed Bath and Beyond in the Landmark Center and snacks can be more afforabile gotten at the CVS across the street. more

Large Selection of Harvard Stuff 8/16/2005

The Harvard Coop, harvard's official bookstore and souvineir store, is located in Harvard Square on Massachusetts Ave. It has one of the largest selection and collection of Harvard gear from T-Shirts, sweatshirts, harvard-embossed wallets, and anything else Harvard that you can imagine. The Coop also doubles as a bookstore, where students can go to buy textbooks and magazines. Every summer the Coop has a big sale where merchandise is discounted about 30-50% off so that's a great time to shop. It's a good bookstore for Harvard students and for tourists alike. The selection is resonable, and the convinence is unparalleled. more

Harvard stuff 8/16/2005

This bookstore is conveniently located in Harvard Square, right across the T stop, and close to Harvard university. They sell book at normal price but they do not have that many collection of books. They also sell gifts with Harvard printed logo such as sweatshirts, T-shirts, mugs, and many more. However, the price for the gifts are quite expensive. This bookstore is recommended for tourists and Harvard students living close to the campus. If you are a Harvard student, you can become a member and receive special discounts. more

Harvard.... 8/16/2005

...sucks? I'm a little biased though, coming from their rival school. Putting old feelings aside though the Harvard Coop is a good place to go, spend some time taking in all the books they have to offer and feeling academic. Its the kind of place you could spend the morning in wandering around and finding a few books you want to read. While there are a number of chairs and tables in the store and in the cafe section, it's not the kind of bookstore I'd want to just sit and read in for an afternoon. more

Like any other college bookstore 8/15/2005

The Harvard Coop shares similar features to other college bookstores. Like other school bookstores, the Coop has books, paraphernalia, stationary, magazines, snacks, book bags, and greeting cards. The set-up of the Coop is nice and spacious. Additionally, the customer service is good. The Coop has several locations, basically wherever Harvard locations are, such as Cambridge and the Longwood Medical Area. more

great selection, crowded with tourists though 8/15/2005

Great architecture section, which is mostly what I spend my time looking at. From the more coffee table books to journals and most of the newly published architecture books will be there. It's a comprhensive bookstore though so I'm sure all the other sections are great also. Lots of magazines though I wish they had a more international selection. It is so packed with tourists that you'll have to run for any chairs and won't really find a quiet spot for reading. more

Lots o Books 8/15/2005

This Harvard square establishment offers a nice atmosphere and a fine selection of books. If you’re looking for the latest book by a Harvard faculty member, this is the place. If you’re looking for the best place to buy a book, that would be Harvard Book Store, the finest book store in the state. more
