Yummy! 10/20/2008

I would give this place 5 stars except that their Chinese take-out orders are a little on the skimpy side, when compared to what is served in house and compared to ordering the Vietnamese dishes. Lin (the owner) is SUPER friendly and knows me by the sound of my voice on the phone and can guess which of my two favorite dishes I want. They really know how to cook tofu and everything I've had on the Vietnamese side of the menu is sumptuous! The Chinese food I've had is good, too, don't get me wrong, but we normally take this to go and my boyfriend would look at his helping of sesame chicken and then look at my much larger helping of tofu with vegetables and ginger and ask ""is this all I get?"" The main server is a bit on the sullen side, but seems to pride himself in being efficient and guessing what you might need before you ask for it. I have their number programmed into my cell so I don't have to look for the number and can order on my way home. Love it! more

in the mall but not ""mall food""... its actually REALLY good 7/22/2008

the food is great (they really know how to cook tofu). fast and flavor-full. really nice people to (they actually remember me every time i come in). the dobie is lame (of course) and parking is sometimes a pain but its worth it every time. they have great consistency in their food. more

Very good quality food - every time you go there. 6/4/2008

I've been going to Hao Hao for well over a decade and the food remains the best Chinese I've found in Austin. I've tried just about everything over the years and ralely been anything but happy with the results. The spring rolls are great. more

SENSATIONAL SESAME CHICKEN 6/1/2008

every time i go to hao hao i always get the sensational sesame chicken its a mouth watering experience and its to die for.The sesame chicken is slightly fried with a sweet brown sesame sauce and with a hint of sesame seed on the top. You can never go wrong with this SENSATIONAL dish and i love it!!!! I give it without a thought give it two BIG thumbs up!!!!! Pros: great food, service, and two thumbs up Cons: hiding in a corner and hard to find more

great Vietnamese food, great service 12/19/2007

I have not yet tried any of the Chinese dishes, but the Vietnamese food here definitely doesn't disappoint. The Hot & Sour Chicken Soup is delicious! The Chicken Pho has good broth, delicious noodles, and a good serving of chicken. The Cafe Sua Da coffee is strong and served with a fair amount of condensed milk. The owner and waitstaff are very friendly and even remember your name if you come more than a few times. I can see why it is extremely popular in our neighborhood. You feel at home when you walk through the door. Pros: terrific service, great food, good prices more

Simply the Best 10/29/2007

I highly recommend Hao Hao beacuse they have outstanding food, polite service and you can't go wrong with it ! Everytime I go there I order crabpuffs with fried wontons on the outside and stuffed with a creamy cheese and crabmeat filling on the inside. The are to die for!!!It's Simply DELICOUS!!!! Pros: everything Cons: kinda hard to find more

Well, since it's the only Vietnamese restaurant in the area... 10/25/2007

... I give it an above average rating. But, if you put it next to Sunflower or Pho Nam, it would lose every time. My take out orders are often missing some important part of the meal. If I try to customize any dish, it's always a hassle. The food is done well, but I get that not much more care is taken nor are the clients seated at the tables of much interest to the staff on the whole. The wait staff doesn't speak very good English, which leaves one wondering if the orders are ever clearly understood. I always find it a wonder when everything is there. The only friendly person is the woman who owns the place. Pros: Traditional Vietnamese Cons: Weird feeling inside, not sure if they really want me there more

G-G-G-rrrrr-EAT Soup 10/13/2007

I recently came into Hao hao, everytime i come to hao hao i check there specials board to see if they have anything new, this time i decided to try their new""Tangy spicy beef noodle soup"", It was delicious, it has a perfect blend of spice, and they give you vinegar on the side, and it tastes better with it. I found a new Favorite , try it , youll love it and order it over and over again, They have good service to always friendly. I recommend hao hao to anyone, that enjoys a good meal and exelent service.! *****5***** Pros: Food, Service, value more

Would never go here again. 10/7/2007

I came from Houston wanting some Vietnamese food in Austin. I am Vietnamese and I have to say that this is no where close to authentic (i guess that's not too surprising). i don't mind good americanized food, but this food here is just nasty. the rice is too dry, so is the vermicilli. i had 2 traditional Vietnamese dishes, and they were both failures. it seemed like this restaurant is trying to cut corners on quality. the food seemed like it all came from a can, and the fish fillets were not high quality. it wasn't even whole fish on bone. just not traditional, nor authentic. it was terrible. i really wanted to have some good homemade Vietnamese food or even Chinese food, but since i picked one of the most traditional dishes on the menu, i can predict that none of the other dishes are up to par as well. i will never go back, EVER. the service was also very bad! i was surprised at how cold and stand-offish the workers there were to me. the only nice person was a Mexican man. the Vietnamese people there were so rude. unless you have no knack of what real Vietnamese food should taste like, i guess you wouldn't mind going here. i think that's what the people that go there are. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT REAL ASIAN FOOD! you definitely won't find the Houston food you're looking for here either. Pros: nothing? Cons: a wide variety of nasty, service, food, VALUE, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! more

Good, Very Good 9/26/2007

I Recently ordered delivery from Hao Hao Restaurant . I order the Vietnamese Hot n' Sour Soup.It was by far the best vietnamese, hot n' sour soup i have ever had.THere service is great also, on the phone, they made sure that my order was correct by repeating it twice, the same with the address. Good , Very good. Pros: Great food, Cheap, Good service on the phone more

The BEST sesame chicken I HAVE EVER TASTED!!!!! 9/25/2007

Last week, one of my fellow workers, took me out for some Chinese and Veitnamese food at Hao Hao. I ordered the Sesame chicken, because i usually order that at other chinese restuarants. This one was especially good, and the service is great, i will defenatly come back and bring my family. Pros: Good, service, ambience Cons: You cannot see their sign(tree is covering it) more

I really can't believe it 9/23/2007

I have been a cusotmer of the Hao Hao for seven years. I was one of those who would be upset on monday nights when I would dial only to realize they were closed. Viet and Chinese always a crowd pleaser Cons: rude, arugmentative employees that don't care about you more

second worst pho ever tasted 6/16/2007

I stopped in for a late lunch, and went for the traditional vietnamese pho. It was the second worst pho i had ever tasted. I have had pho in many different cities in the US, and this place is among the worst. The noodles and meat were too chewy and toughy, and the meat was cut too thickly. I would not recommend this place to anyone, considering that they can't even come close to making a vietnamese staple tasty. Cons: bad food more

worst customer service 4/13/2007

called in last nite for pick up...the woman with the accent took my order for the canh chu ga ( chicken hot and sour vietnamese soup), I then asked if they could put the bean sprouts and other vegetables on the side so they would not be soggy, she responded with ""Not tonight, any other night but they were busy and she did not want to get confused"". I then said never mind and hung up. Very poor customer service. I will have to look for my ""soup"" elsewhere. They lost my business forever!!! Pros: ok vietnamese food, convenient to my area Cons: busy intersection, hard to get in and out of more

Best spring rolls in austin!! 3/2/2007

I recently moved to austin, and I was looking for a good vietnamese restaurant to eat at. Then my neighbor recomended Hao Hao,it was great!!! I had the vietnamese eggrolls ,it was delicous! Then I had the spring rolls they had wonderful peanut sauce. The food was fresh the service was helpful,I will definitetly come back!!! I give it a 10!!! Pros: Best vietnamese food I've ever had! Cons: none! more

Don't waste your time driving to this place!!! 2/8/2007

They only have one waiter to work the entire place and the food isn't good at all. The crab puffs were alot of fried puff with little crab. DO NOT get the chef's special beef. It is like eating beef jerky without any flavor. Plus I had to wait for a half hour to get it because only one waiter is taking care of 20 tables. Prices aren't great either. more
