Really Enjoy The Food!! 8/16/2011

I enjoy their food here. Lots of mouth watering flavor and I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing. more

meatless meaty 5/30/2011

I now live on the East Coast and crave Mary's Meatless Meaty I first encountered in the 80s on Folsom St in SF. I can't find anything like it. Please... I'd looooove the recipe. more

Easy to find 11/20/2008

I get to sacramento very offten but when I do I always stop at Hamburgey Marys. The service is fast when I'm in a hurry. Lets not forget the hambugers are so yummy... Pros: Cool things to look at while eating. Cons: I'm getting fat eating there more

Fantastic Food... Horrible Service 8/2/2008

I have been regularly attending this spot (about once a month) for the last few years. The Burgers are the best in town in my opinion. Fries are also fantastic (avoid the spicy fries). My favorite is the Bleu Burger. All burgers are juicy and they even ask you how you want it cooked and what type of bread! Their Salads are extremely good as well. This place would get 5 stars if it wasnt for the bad service. Most of the servers here are not that friendly. On several occasions they seem to have the attitude of a small diner server: Attitude, no small talk, just BLAH. Now when I go I just sit at the bar the majority of the time and converse with the friendly (and more attractive looking) hosts and bartenders. It seems they have the service backwards here. I will still continue to go here for the food. My suggestion: sit at the bar. more

Best hamburger and fries ... compare with Nationwide Meats and the Squeeze Inn. 1/20/2008

Burger: JUICIER than Nationwide Meats and Squeeze Inn (which are big but rather dry) more

Unfortunate incident at Hamburger Mary's - er, Hambuger Patty 12/11/2007

Hamburger Mary's is now HAMBURGER PATTY. Food and service remains the same-mediocre at best. Pros: None - as compared to other places to eat around the area. Cons: Mediocre food and service. more

Good hamburger, but very unfriendly... 11/15/2007

My wife and I love burgers. We like them simple, but that does not mean our palates are simple. The bun, condiments, patty, greens, and condiments need to be fresh and proportioned just right. Hamburger Mary's (in Sacramento) does a decent job of putting together a good simple burger. We ate there about 4 times in a 6-month period. It was the service that eventually drove us away. Pros: Good simple burger Cons: Unfriendly service!!! more

Consistently Good Burgers 9/25/2007

We've been here several times and have pretty much stuck to the burgers. They have always been cooked to order and tasty. The fries have always been fresh and crispy. The service is friendly and reasonably prompt. Pros: A very good burger. Cons: Would like to see more in the way of omelets on the brunch menu. more

Upholding the Mary's tradition 6/1/2007

I used to eat at the Mary's in Portland a long time ago (it's no longer), and stumbled upon the outlet in Sacramento. The food was just as I remembered it, the spicy fries were great, the service was very attentive and friendly, and the place was MUCH cleaner and better-maintained than the one in Portland. Pros: The ""chili size"" and the spicy fries more

Just Plain Bad 4/7/2007

WEll, we loved Hamburger Mary's in San Francisco, hadn't been there since it was sold. We went to dinner in Sacramento, and were so grossed out we left. The eating area was filthy, uncleared, unwiped tables with food stuck to them, the chairs and the floor. The service was invisible, although very pleasant when they finally arrived with not a clue about how to wait tables, and the food was - well, we left. Greasy, overcooked and unflavored. Terrible. We left. Pros: Less expensive than some Cons: Ew. Dirty, poor service and food more

A Mary time on J Street 11/20/2006

All I have to say is WOW. I was one of the people who wrote a not so favorable comment awhile ago so when my co-workers wanted to go to Hamburger Marys I was very hesitant. Im glad they convinced me. Things have vastly changed since my last experience at Marys. The food actually made it to our table quick even though they were in the middle of a lunch rush. Best of all it was hot and fresh ? I got the spicy fries and not only were they crispy but seasoned perfectly ? A major improvement over last time! The only complain that I have is that I didn?t have enough room to finish everything. Im glad I went back and gave Mary a second chance. I will be back for sure! more

Father's Day at Hamburger Mary's 6/17/2006

Hamburger Mary's on 17th and J in downtown Sacramento is great for its location and decor. So not pretentious. Food is average, if not below average, but the prices can be reasonable. The service was extremely on the ball, but at times the restaurants noise made it difficult for us to hear our waitress and likewise for her to her us. She did get my order wrong, but I don't consider it her fault. I went there with my family for Father's Day. My relatively old parents felt young and hip to be there, while my late-teenage nephews felt the place was cool. It is rare that a restaurant can bridge such a large generation gap. And afterwords, we all went to The Beat Records across the street and shopped for all the different variety of music that we like. Pros: location, atmosphere, great service Cons: at times the noise, some uncomfortable seats more

User review by mootilldawn 3/11/2006

OVER-RATED *clap clap clap clap clap* Certainly not the BEST hamburger i've ever eaten, but certainly not the worst. Caeser salad...average. Seasoned fries, not all they are cracked up to be. Overall a decent meal for a decent price. Extremely loud atmosphere, almost to the point where I couldn't hear my date talk. On the other hand its plenty of fun for large groups under the influence (alcohol can be had at their full bar in the front of the restaurant). Pros: Solid, Gay friendly Cons: Noise, Small parking lot more

Do not waste your time here!!! 3/1/2006

As chains go there are good ones and bad ones. This a bad one. The service is slow and well below average, and with no personality. The Hambuger is no better than the average burger, at any cheap hamburger house, on every street corner . When I lived in Long Beach, CA, I was a regular at the Hamburger Mary's,were there food and servce is superb. I asked to sub the fries for onion rings, and was told the only way to get onion rings was to order a side for $5.50. In Long Beach, you can always sub fries for $1.50. I was quite surprised at how dingy and dirty this restaurant was. This place needs an overhall, new paint, new wait staff, and new cooks, and hopefully they will have a nice friendly personality and warm smile. Cons: Dingy, Dirty, No Personality more

teriyaki burgers totally rule!!!!! 7/21/2005

went a while back and had the teriyaki burger and chili cheese fries. they were so good!!!! can't wait to go back.... and i shall. Pros: good food more

Old School Type Food 5/6/2003

We used to be regulars at Mary's. We started to notice that the quality had gone away. Loved the burgers and fries. Pros: Location, Name Recognition Cons: Quality, cleanliness more

Oh Mary! Hamburgers are Devine! 2/8/2003

I never knew Hamburger Mary's was a chain... definantly eclectic... the staff was, for the most part friendly and service was good. I especially like the hot and spicy fries they serve. Go if you are in an adventerous mood and want something more than your average hamburger joint. Pros: food good, eclectic atmosphere Cons: glasses are small more

Awful Service 12/13/2002

I am just amazed at how many people have had good experiences here. I would eat at the Hamburger Mary's in San Diego and Seattle and figured that I would have similiar luck in Sac. While the food was decent and the mermaids cool the people who work there are unbelievable. I have given the place several tries and it is always the same, they ignore you when you arrive, getting your food in less than 45 min is a miracle, and it is often charred. Bad place. more

Margaritas... 12/5/2002

the best in Sacramento, seriously, and they're cheap! The spicy fries are great! As are the hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. Pros: Cheap, Yummy, Great Waiters more

The Mermaids 8/14/2002

are a nice touch - it doesnt feel like a chain at all. Staff has a lot of personality too. It wont win any ""best of"" awards, due to the Sac population's narrow-minded devotion to bland national chains, but Mary's makes by far the best and most creative burgers in the city. Look out for the fries - when they say spicy, they mean it. more
