Good eats for a brewery 8/16/2006

After having spent more than my fair share of time at various little breweries around town, Hale's Ales is a relatively decent offering. I don't give it many stars, but I expect more from a place that can roll-their-own beer on site. The food is fairly well done, though it's the standard pub fare. There's a good length to the menu, but nothing off the wall. You won't be underwhelmed, but don't expect to be overwhelmed either. The beer is quite tasty. Try out the creams that include the nitrogen. Any beer that includes things from physics or chemistry has got to be worth checking into, and this stuff was really good. The stout cream was good, but I liked the ESB much better. Parking is a crapshoot, mostly of the side-street variety. Pull around back and take up a spot in a corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot, and you should be fine. more

Great party spot! 2/13/2006

I just had my engagement party at Hales Ales and it was such a huge success!!! Jude, the coordinator, was wonderful! The decorations were great! The food Fabulous and all our friends and family had a great time!!! It was nice that they served beer and wine at our bar, but if people wanted more they could go down stairs. Children were allowed and it was just a great night! Highly recommend this location for a party! more

Cozy upstairs room with small bar and room for buffet 12/13/2005

We had a work event here recently with about 20 people. We had several tables set up in the upstairs area with a buffet table in the smaller attached room. There was also a small bar that they manned for us serving beer and wine. A huge plus was that there are men's and women's bathrooms upstairs so you dont need to go all the way downstairs! The only detractors could be that it really smells like a brewery (the hops!)! But, the food was good and Jude, the woman who worked with us, was fantastic. In general however I don't really like Hales from my experiences in the brewery restaurant part. I probably won't go there privately again but I WOULD choose to host an event there again since it was nice and private and well organized. more

Hales Ales 8/18/2005

If a coffeeshop were to serve beer and food, this would be it. It’s got couches. It’s got overstuffed easychairs. It’s tables, booths, and the requisite bar, not to mention a whole dining room. Service can be so-so. The beer is decent, not too bitter or malty or strong. Dinner food is good and wide-ranging, from salads to sandwiches to burgers. Stay away from their brunch, though…it’s not that good. more
