After noticed that I was not happy about his answer, he tried to hold his anger (I guess maybe I am the first one who is not satisfated his work and he was insulted) and told me it was because of the blow dry and he would washing my hair again to show me. After rinsed my hair and dry a little, it did look a little better. And he was assure me again," you see, it is very straight and if anybody can do straighter than this, please show me.” I gave him $40 tips and thanked him and wished he was right. 3 days later, after I washed my hair, most my hair is straight, but I noticed both side hair appearing curve and my back of my layers bend outwards. Except the only satisfaction of the smooth of the hair, I am very disappointed compare to my previous two experiences. I called the salon right away, no one answered and noticed this is the New Year and they must off. I could not sleep well these days. I called every day until finally someone answered phone few days later. I told the situation and Edward checked my hair the other day. Without an apology, he told me that he would perm my both side again. I have no choice but go back to him again. Felt so bad luck for my New Year. I decided to have a new look for my New Year and end up with this shitty experience. Fortunately, on my way to the salon, I was told that Edward called sick and there would be an art director who is one level higher than Edward (director)available instead. This hair stylist is Tatsuya. Without even get paid this time, he carefully checked my hair, decided to perm over again and agreed the need to fix m back. During the perm, I never get burned and he took his time to take care of my hair. It came out perfectly. Just for my curiousity of his price ($330 and Up), I asked for how much is for my length, he told me it is $330. Very honest!!! more

If the score is from 0 to 5, I gave Edward 2.5 and Tatsuya 5.0. Here is my experience in Hayato hair salon. I had straight hair perm twice by Japanese hairstylists before and I love it. Because I lost contact with my previous hairstylist , I found Hayato hair salon, which only has Japanese hairstylists. I checked on-line comments and found few people recommend Edward. Before made an appointment with him, as a routine process that Edward needed to exam my hair make sure the qualification for perm and the price. I am an asia girl, so it is easy to qualify. Edward’s price is $300 & up depends on the length. My hair is about 3 to 4 inches below my shoulder. The clerk told me it is $300. Edward told me it is $320. I told myself since I am willing to pay $300, it didn’t make too much different to add $20 more as long as he is good. Finally, I had my hair permed on 12/27 after waited for 2 weeks. During the perm, my scalp got burned by his assistant and him few times. When he was drying my hair, I felt my head had on fire (he rushed to dry my hair and put high temp on dryer). I tried to calm down myself by telling me no pay no gain and I would be so pretty after it finished. By the way, I forget to tell you that this $320 is including cutting my hair. Before I came to perm, I had a very bad haircut and my back of my hair has layers irregularly. I expected that he could give me a nice haircut to worth the money. He only spent less than 5 minutes to cut my front both side and left the back intact and told me he would not touch the back because it had layers already. At the end of the process, he started to blow dry my hair, I noticed my front both side of my hair appearing curves. My heart was sinking and told him that it is not that straight. I got my hair done with Tatsuya who is the 2nd level expert. He is no expert at all. He could not do the hairstyle I showed in a picture and it was the easiest thing to do - BANGS! And on top of all that, they charged me $80!!!! Stay away from this place!!! Don't believe the good things on this review. It's most likely written by the people who work there. more

I travel 5 hours to get to Hayato and its worth every penny. The stylists and assistants are very skilled. My TRs always come out great, straight, shiny, very little breakage. I wish I had found them earlier. more

I saw **Taka** at Hayato and he was absolutely wonderful. He did a free consult and strand test for me several weeks before my appointment. On the day of the process he was fantastic. He explained everything as it happened. He didn't push products. And he did not mention the obvious - that I needed a haircut badly. (I was waiting to see how the process worked before deciding on a cut.) He is also sweet, sweet, sweet. So nice. The straightening worked like magic. My hair is smooth and swingy and shiny. I can let it air dry or finger dry it with a hair dryer. But I do not need to blow it out with a round brush or use an iron. I had hair straightening (not Japanese) several years ago and it was a disaster. Burned frizzy hair! So I was skeptical about Liscio. But this was an amazing experience from start to finish. Thank you Taka. I will be moving 5 hours away in a month and you can be sure I'll be back in NYC to have my touch ups. more

I've had my hair straightened numerous times and had been willing to pay for it (900 with tip). Now that I've found Kenji at Hayato, I can get a great head of straight hair for a third of the cost. Now, I won't go anywhere else. Kenji was careful and thorough and really knew his stuff. You do have to jump through some hoops with the receptionsist in the beginning, but it's worth it and they warm up. I got my hair straightened and cut for $290. I Gave Kenji a 20% cash tip and his assistant, who does a lot, $15. Well worth it. more

I live in Florida and the only real salon of note who does thermal reconditioning is Vincent J in Ft. Lauderdale. I was traveling to NYC for business and thought I would get my yearly straightening done to avoid a 3 hour drive to south Florida. Having previously gone to John Barrett salon for my original straightening, I called and was quoted $600 for a partial TR. Following the advise of many columns who included Hayato as a reasonably priced salon with excellent reviews, I thought I would give it a try. Kanna was my stylist. I have very thick and long hair. My thermal cost $270, and $80 for a cut. Kanna works fast ( I was out in 3 hours from start to finish), did a thoroughly outstanding job, and gave me a great cut. I cannot recommend this salon enough. I got alot of attention. Kanna was very attentive to my needs and understood the cut I wanted, and her assistant was great as well. My only complaint is the receptionist. She was not particularly friendly or accommodating. Be advised: the salon takes credit cards, but all tips are in cash only. Hayato is well worth the trip! more

Even after hearing rave reviews from friends of friends of people who had gotten thermal reconditioning by Edward at Hayato, I was skeptical. My hair had been a problem for me since puberty. It had turned extremely coarse and wavy and made humid summer nights "indoor" nights for me. I was tired of abusing my hair with blow drying and hair irons-even though I spent big $ for the best kind of shampoo and conditioners, my hair was fried. Now I can shower in the morning, wash my hair and let it AIR DRY while I get ready for my day then i run a brush through it and lightly blow it for about 3 minutes and I'm good to go. The salon staff was friendly and explained each step to me before and while I was going through the process. My entire visit cost $300, including the straightening plus a cut and shaping afterwards. I would advise anyone to go to this salon...FYI a consulation is mandatory before you book your appointment...and if you have highlights in your hair, they most likely will tell you to wait until you have COMPLETELY grown all your color out and only your natural color is visible. I was told to wait 6 months for very minimal highlights to grow out before Ed would take me). more

I love Hayato-I just have to say that straightaway. I live in Pennsylvania, incidentally but traveled to this awesome place because of the unbeleiveble value & expert stylists. When I was looking to straighten my hair 2 years ago, I came across a site that recommended Ed at Hayato & booked myself an appointment. I have not regretted it & have gone back twice for straightening. Sadly, I now want my hair to be wavy so It will be a while before I come back but I would not hesitate to recommend this salon-Ed was the best from what I heard but I referred many people there who had other stylists, no one ever had 1 complaint. Whenever I was there for the 5+ hour process that they do do well, I ould inevitably start talking to someone else who was there from another state. Oh by the way, this is a $700-$950 process anywhere else that knows what they're doing but Hayato's price is $200-450. Need I say more? more

The average price for a session at most qualified salons in NYC runs up to around $800 per session. Hayato salon's prices are much cheaper at around $200, and the lower price does not compromise the quality at all. In fact, the results are fantastic and customers are very rarely unsatisfied. All the stylists there are very friendly and professional. They also do haircuts, coloring, etc and massages. more
