Best

Went there with a friend from work, wouldn't have gone there if I'd known it was an ""upper end dining place"", but really glad I did. My friend, who is from New England, and very...

Worst

After reading reviews about their signature dish, I had the filet. I can get a better cut of filet at the local HEB. In my younger years, I cooked for a steak and lobster house ...

Service is terrible - Go to Eddie V's instead 4/9/2006

It was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant in 34 years. Our server was inattentive, rushed and even insulted my husband for ordering a steak medium. Tables around us received their food and finished their meal while we were still on bread! Our order was obviously lost or forgotten, and no one had the courage to admit to the mistake. Whe we asked to speak with a manager, we were sent another server in an apron. No manager on duty? An hour and 30 minutes after being seated (a 35 minute wait on the patio on top of that!) we finally left without even eating. Pros: North location Cons: Terrible service more

Always Wonderful 11/17/2005

We have tried every so called steak restaurant in town. The best and always consistent is Gumbos. more

The finest food around. 6/18/2005

Welcomed & seated promptly. Waiter (Austin) arrived with a friendly greeting for drink orders. Wine selection nice, but thier selection of single malt Scotch was great. Hot homemade dinner rolls, with flavored butter, water glasses constantly filled, and Austin made us feel as if we were the only patrons. We experienced some of the finest prepared seafood food on earth yesterday. Seafood Gumbo,Crabcakes, Oysters Rockerfeller were fantastic as our appetizer. Expertly prepared Salmon Rockerfeller, topped with fresh crabmeat,or shrimp topped (choice) served over creamy spinach, with dirty rice or mashed potatoes with carmelized onions inside. Sweet potato crusted csatfish, with fresh vegetable medly topped with their special (secret) sauce was off the charts good. After dinner drinks, and great food made for a phenomonal dining experience. Management inquired about our orders, and service, and we were happy to say it was fantastic. We'll be back, count on it. PS: Leave the little kids OK ? Pros: No Children, Great Ambiance, Excellent Chefs more

I was shocked to see the variety of food and wine available. BEST STEAK IN TOWN! Pros: Food, Service more

Nouveau Cajun 3/8/2005

This isn't your grandma's cajun, but then if that's what you wanted, you would be eating at her house. From beef to fish, you can't go wrong. The Tenderloin Georges is fantastic with crabmeat and béarnaise sauce. Catfish yoli (blackened fillets topped with crawfish tails in a tarragon cream sauce) is one of my wife's favorites. Wine selection is more than adequate. One of my favorites. Get there early, all locations fill fast. Pros: Great food, Great drinks, Multiple locations Cons: Training new staff more

NOT REAL CAJUN! 7/16/2004

Being from Lafayette, I was very disappointed in the food here. The gumbo doesn't taste like any gumbo I ever ate before. The prices are too high for this kind of food and the wait is way too long. Service needs improvement. Pros: good atmosphere, easy parking Cons: , too expensive, service is very slow more

Bad Experience 2/8/2004

Over the past 5+ years of frequenting Gumbo's with virtually wonderful service and food - last night changed my mind. After waiting for 2 hours for a table (we arrived at 6PM), then another hour for our food which arrived mediocre and luke warm, I will remove this restaurant from my list of favorite places to dine. Not only was the food not up to par but we had to periodically wave down our server to get our water glasses refilled! Not worth the wait! Cons: , slow service more

No Shorts here! 1/13/2003

Talk about good food and service. My biggest judge of a resturant is my tea glass. It never got below 1/2 full. My waitress even took the approriate numer of sugars and would place them next to the glass when she filled it. Now that is good service! As for the food. First rate. Just don't come in wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Oops, was I under dressed. Pros: Service, Food, Value more

Great Place to take a date! 9/12/2002

Great food and atmosphere make it a great place for a date! Drinks before and after the Brown Bar make the whole experience perfect! Pros: Great food, SUPER Service, Next to brown bar more

nice and jucy 8/27/2002

the best cajun food in town 7/31/2002

Service doesn't get any better than what we had. The food was incredible. The special was very tasty and the steak was so juice that you won't need a steak knife to eat it! Definetly an Austin's finest. more
