I do not recommend that you ever a beloved pet to Dr. Guevara's care. The man is an incompetent butcher. He performed a procedure on my equine and, 10 days later, my equine was dead. Dr. Guevara couldn't be bothered when we called him the evening of the surgery with concerns about the equine. Nor, did he bother with any follow-up to see how my equine was healing. In addition, he failed to notify of us certain conditions that could arise as the result of the surgery, one of which killed my beautiful equine. When I tried to call him for assistance, when it was obvious my equine was in trouble, he couldn't be bothered.\r \r In addition, the front office staff at his Callahan Road Animal Hospital will not deliver messages to him. I have called a couple of times and left messages for him that were never returned.\r \r If you love your pet, avoid Dr. Guevara at all costs and find another vet. more

Dr. Lowe is the best vet we have ever seen. She saved my French Brittany, Luc, after he was bitten by a rattle snake and was 100% accurate in preparing me for all the recovery stages. Her care is not only professionally the best but also the most animal (and human) sensitive. My ranch rescue dog, Buddy, loves her. Buddy was a feral dog and people have to earn his trust and yet he wants to lick Dr. Lowe every time he sees her. Negative reviews on this site can not be true relative to Dr. Lowe and her staff. more

I agree that they do a great job, all obviously really love animals. Dr. Lowe and staff really do seem to love what they do and it shows. Took great care of dog we're considering keeping.... a stray. The dog must sense that I'm not sure of if I can take him in right now and all there were so great, I think he almost didn't want to leave when we were getting in the car.... more

I am not sure what was going on when all those older reviews were written, but I definitely agree with the more recent ones (where the reviewer could spell) that this place is awesome. I was seen on time and Dr. Lowe was very patient with me and answered all of my questions. I'll be bringing all of my pets here forever. more

I rarely write reviews but due to the outstanding care I have received at TVH Fred Road I felt I HAD to speak up. Dr. Liz Lowe is one of the best vets I have ever dealt with in my 30 years and 12 dogs/6 cats of pet ownership. She is easy to talk to inspire of her obvious intelligence (heard through the grapevine she was 1st in her class at Tufts). She also has extensive experience in emergency medicine. She and her staff have stayed after hours and worked through lunch many times...and NOT just for my animals. I recommend them without reservations. more

Great Care, Friendly Staff 2/16/2012

I'm not sure why many of the other reviewers had such bad experiences because mine was much different. I recently moved here from Corpus and have been looking for a good vet - I think I've found her. I visited the Becker Animal Hospital previously and didn't care for the mass production animal care at all. But my visit to Fredericksburg Rd AH was great! I was seen quickly and I just loved Dr. Lowe - she was very attentive, caring and even funny. The staff was very polite. I will definitely go back. more

Dr Lowe lunch, was way to important to see our dog Dolly 2/8/2012

This is something you pet lovers NEED!! to no. JD and myself went home for lunch and as I open the door Dolly our dog was on the floor, wet with pee, could not get up and was just in so much pain that when I tried to pick her up she bit me. Dolly has been part of our family for almost 13 years and she has never done that. Poor thing was just in so much pain, she just keep looking at me. will we rushed her (Dolly) to Texas Veterinary Hospital on 3493 Federickburg Road 210-732-1981. I told the receptions what was going on, she took our information, and then said take a seat because the veterinary was in the lunch room and it would be about one hour, I looked at her and side she cant event get up and is in so much pain can you just let the veterinary no, Please!!, She open the door to let her no what was going on, and out loud she said no! I'm taking my lunch, tell them I will be done in about 45 minuets, REALLY your there to help our little baby, I don't think they care,, this is a hospital!!! Stop what your doing and look at are dog. You need to repose and let everybody no how they treat your animals, and by the Way the veterinary name is DR LOWE , And we were they only ones there. more

Leave as fast as you can & come to Callaghan Rd. AH 5/23/2011

Dr. Eduardo Guevara is no longer at Fredericksburg Rd. - he opened up his own hospital with Dr. Jennifer Evans at Callaghan Road Animal Hospital 5739 Callaghan Rd, Suite 101, San Antonio, Tx (210) 647-1101 It took me forever to find any information on where Dr. Guevara went, the Fredericksburg Rd. clinic refused to tell me so I had to do some digging on my own. I found him at his own practice with Dr. Evans on Callaghan Rd. It is very nice and I'm so glad I found his office finally! I would NEVER take my pets back to TVH. more

TVH 8/18/2010

I disagree coming from a professional stand point if your pet has an emergency then it needs to be seen at an emergency clinic. Same as people. I am sure the staff there takes much pride in their job and caring for animals so when you say this vet is 3rd rate then maybe you don't understand what it takes to really care for a pet. The staff and the doctors at this clinic are great and very friendly including the African American girl. Remember, you get what you pay for. more

Take your pets and RUN from this place FAST!!! 6/10/2010

We had been taking our animals to Fred Road Animal Hospital for 20 years! Since it was a small very pet friendly place run by Dr Granberry. He was an awesome man and you could tell he truely loved animals. Then he moved to a larger hospital down the street on Fred Road. The place was beautiful, clean, and very professionally run and Dr Granberry was the same loving, gentle and kind doctor. Unfortunately, all good things must end...Dr Granberry retired this past year...and guess what?? A large company bought the place and took all his customers who thought nothing had changed except for the owners..WRONG!!! The place is now legally owned by Texas veterinary Hospitals and nothing is the same...The prices have doubled! The waiting is atrocious because of all the people waiting!! The service is 3rd rate and the vets want to charge you for everything even if your animal doesn't need it. They charge you for a wellness exam even if you don't want it and won't give any service without it...even if you just need a rabie shot.OH, aqnd don't try and bring your aqnimal in for an emergency!! we tried and were told just to take it to an emergency clinic. We personally saw a man come in with his injuered and dying dog and was told that he needed an appointment!! Can you believe it!! But you know what the worst thing is? The staff!!!!! They are RUDE and very curt and downright obnoxious, esp. this one African American girl...she is the worst!! We have heard and read many complaints about the staff . We could go on and on about this horrible place..but we know that we will never bring our animals there again...Hey...take them to Affordable Pet Care on Basse Rd...half the price and no rudeness... Pros: non Cons: everything more

Unprofessional 2/26/2009

I had a VERY similar experience as the review two below me. I was trying to arrange for surgery for a dog but had a question and the office manager was always ""unavailable"" or ""out to lunch"" or ""not in"" . Once I tried to talk to the vet and never got him either. Two weeks/5 phone calls later still no return call and took my business to another vet who was super and did the surgery. My finding this other vet was the only silver-lining. Unbelieveably unprofessional. They are pricey too. more

Great place to take your dogs. 1/15/2009

I found this place a few months ago when I moved to this neighbourhood. I needed to find a new vets for my dog. I have to say this is the best vets I have ever taken my dog to. The vet and nurse are very thoughtful and helpful. My dog had a back problem and I was very worried. The vets checked where she is hurting very gently while the nurse was holding her. She always shakes badly around new people, especially in the vets, but she was fine. It was because they both treated my dog like their own dog. I really thank them for that. I highly recommend you to take your dog if you are looking for good vets. Saturdays are always busy. You need to make an appointment before you go, but it is definitely worth it. My dog is better now and she is running around again. Pros: Veterinarian and nurse's kindness. Knowledge more

BEWARE OF FREDRICKSBURG ROAD ANIMAL VET CLINIC! RIP OFFS AND RUDE STAFF! They DON'T CARE ABOUT ANIMALS! 12/5/2008

I have been taking my animals to this clinic for years, and haven't had any major problems with them. But, since the past two years, things have taken a turn for the worse! The staff is quite rude and careless. If you ask them a simple question, they're incapable or lack the intelligence to assist you. They place you on hold, and then hang up on you! I requested them to fax my dogs' medical records to a boarding facility, and they neved did! I had to call repeatedly for them to just perform this simple task. I was harassed and threatened by their staff members, and was rudely hanged up on because I commented on their unprofessional behavior. They simple don't care what's going on with your animals! The last time I was there, I took my pet because he had an infection. We arrived 10 minutes ahead of our appointmet, and we had to wait 45 minutes PAST our original appointment to get seen. The vets are quite rude as well. When I questioned and was making comments about why we had to wait so long to get seen, the vet got visibly upset at my comments. He came towards me as if to attack me, and threatened to have me escorted by the police. He told me, ""Well, if you don't like it, you can take your dog elsewhere."" My dog was suffering from a severe infection, and at this point, I just wanted him to get help. So, I bit my tongue, and let the vet continue on with the examination. He prescribed some antibiotic, and I gave the medication as directed. But, my dog still has the same infection! So, I call up the vet clinic again, and told them that my dog hasn't gotten any better. They said they will have to CHARGE ME ANOTHER VISITING FEE to check the same problem that they didn't fix in the first place! Talk about rip-off! I went back, and they just gave me the SAME MEDICINE that didn't work before, and told me to give it again. Why would a medicine that didn't work the first time, would work now? I now know that I was just been given the run around, and was being ripped off! Pros: There are no pros. Cons: They are rude, unprofessional, and give repeated treatments that don't work. Your pet still ends up sick, and you have to find another doctor to get real help! more

Your Four-legged Family Member Deserves Much Better 8/7/2007

We recently took our newest addition to this facility where she was diagnosed with Parvo. She had received her first set of boosters the day before we rescued her. She was 3lbs & 7 wks old. Initially the visit was pleasant, aside from being told that our baby had a life threatening puppy killing virus. We decided to bring her home & explore other possibilities. 1 1/2 hrs later we decided we should take her back & start treatments. Upon calling I left a msg for the same Dr that examined her to call back. 2 hrs passed & I was concerned. I called back & admit I raised my voice at the girl that ans'd. She said that the Dr was lunch & wouldn't return for 1hr. She then told me that she didnt need to listen to me in this upset state & hung up. I called back & was immediately put on hold for 6 min. I hung up & called back & again placed on hold for 4 min. I only wanted to find out if my other dog, already having all his shots, needed a booster as he had been in direct contact w/ the new puppy; I also wanted to find out when the Dr was going to be back in so we could take her back. The last time I called I finally got her to stay on the line & she said that my other dog didn't need a booster since he had rec'd his shots. NOT TRUE He did need it & this I heard from 2 other vets. I asked for the off. mgrs name & she too was at lunch. She proceeded to raise her voice at me & say ""if you want to call back & complain call back after 2"" then hung up on me again. Our baby is now dead, she passed away Mon 8/6/07 even after being treated at another vet. The bottom line is; if you desire empathy, concern & professionalism for your baby DO NOT go here. Aside from that our other baby could have easily died as the ""receptionist"" likes to give incorrect info that could be potentially deadly to your pet. For the sake of your four-legged family member don't go thru what we had to go thru here. It's a shame that even in an emotional time like this we did not get any sympathy or concern. Pros: Pricing Cons: Service, lack of knowledgeable staff, timeliness, inconsiderate staff, unempathetic staff, disrespectful staff more
