Hit or miss 5/14/2011

Not the same since it open...but then again most places aren't. Its usually good when I have to entertain my clients from out of town. Fridays seems to be their better night. If you don't know the doorman; call ahead! more

buy at www.nycnyeparties. com This New Year’s Eve Griffin opens its doors to invite you to ring in the New Year at the most decadent, lavish, sexy venue in NYC. Griffin was inspired by one of the most iconic ages in history, the Gilded Age of the late 19th century, where fortunes were built by tycoons and moguls. This magnificent venue boasts impressive glittering crystal chandeliers, and over the top accents. “We aim to recapture the splendors of a sophisticated night out by providing guests with impeccable service in an opulent setting.” more

Scam of a night club - Reservations not honored. Do not come here! 11/13/2010

Makes me disgusted to even think and write about this place. Made a reservation on a Saturday night for out-of-town friends. Was told that we need to buy 2 bottles, starting at $400 each. Fine, a pricey night, but just wanted to make sure we have a place for a group. Got there at the reserved time with the pre-specified number of people and was told by the asshole bouncer that my previously reserved table is now $2000!!, despite what reservations had told me. The cost itself is crazy, but the fact that they retraded the reservation last minute is unbelievable! A service establishment that does not honor reservations is unprofessional at its best and deserves to be put out of business. Imagine that you were planning a birthday or an event and this happened to you at the door of your night out. Just imagine and you will be as disgusted as I am. Griffin touts to be sophisticated, provide impeccable service and table reservations recommended. Do not be fooled by this, the people there are the exact opposite. We work hard enough in this economy to make money that should be spent at establishments that actually deserves to be paid for their service. Save yourself the guaranteed pain and go somewhere else to have fun. more

I keep wanting to call it Gryffindor but that would be nerdy 6/13/2010

This club is a bit of a sleeper among the buzzed-about giants of the Meatpacking District, but despite the lack of hype it's really frickin awesome. The decor is classy and refreshing: huge crystal chandelier, velvet booths, and carved wood paneling with nary a laser in sight. It's pretty much what Mansion should have looked like based on the name. But stuffy Griffin is not, I learned as I drunkenly danced on the center platform while trying not to fall or show my Britney. Nor is the door policy unfairly strict, at midnight on a Friday we easily got in sans cover with a mixed-gender group. The crowd was good-looking but not intimidatingly so, and surprisingly the guys were probably better looking than the girls. Griffin's best feature by far was the music which consisted of poppy techno and one or two hip hop songs. Nothing cliche, nothing too mainstream or too out there, and great mixing. Perfect for my platform dancing. Shout out to Jeff, the dead sexy Bradley Cooper-lookalike bartender who custom mixed some dangerously good (but slightly expensive) drinks. Don't mind the $16 price though, for a club like this Griffin's drinks are larger and much stronger than average so you'll probably only need 2. Be safe now, kids. meganinmanhattan dot com Pros: music, atmosphere, no door drama Cons: just a tad pricey more

Cool Place - try booking your night via BoomSet 3/22/2010

It is a cool venue - but the door can be strict sometimes. I found a new iPhone application, which actually helps you get in to venues like this. BoomSet is a cool app, and definitely eases your mind about reserving a table or getting in to a guestlist. I feel like a night can go south very easily if you have some issues getting in to the place. Try BoomSet- I highly recommend it. • Improving upon the former P.M. space with gilded mirrors and glittering chandeliers, this ornately decorated MePa District cocktail den has a distinctly upscale vibe--even the cocktail waitresses are outfitted in slinky Catherine Malandrino dresses--but without any off-putting pretension at the door. Scoot past the velvet rope to secure a seat on the plush champagne colored antique couches or in one of several circular booths, where table service is quick to take your order. Bring plenty of cash, however, as cocktails such as the Louisiana Purchase (made with cognac, lemon and honey) run $16 a pop. DJs spin nightly, but you’ll want to visit this club after 1am--come earlier, and you’ll miss all the flirtatious action that tends to take place in the wee hours of the morning.
