Burger and a Beer, Sounds Simple...NOT! 2/14/2011

Want a burger (the way you ordered it) and a beer?...Good Luck, Not here! Sounds simple, especialy with only a few patrons in the place. 20 minutes after ordering, I got "a" burger, it was not the burger I ordered. 20 minutes later, I got the burger I ordered, but it was way overcooked. I could not eat it. At this point I had to go, I was short on time to begin with. I get my check(myself), pay for it anyway. Notice I never got an itemized receipt w/ my check, I ask another waiter if he could get that for me, I got it w/ attitude (I might add). I had peeled him away from the t.v. Last time I was here was three years ago. Then too there were order screw ups and attitudes, I did not appriciate. Will I try again in 2014?................................. more

Love this place~great, chill neighborhood bar 7/12/2010

I LOVE this place. It's close to home and as far as a bar goes, it's cute tiki, island-like ambience is refreshing compared to the dingy white walls most places offer. The food (for bar food) is fantastic. From blackened fish tacos to ahi, to burgers, to mahi entrees- we are never disappointed. It's also the best house salads around...sounds simple but i love a good salad. Food is always fresh. I was in the service industry for years and think that the servers and bartenders are friendly, fast, and great at what they do. Bloody mary's are awesome- full liquor and decent beer selection. Live music is great. Blues nite on monday is phenomenal and happy hour acoustic acts are great..late nite covers bands talented as well. Compared to so many bars I've been to in Tampa, I'm a HUGE fan of the green iguana. I was shocked to see these other reviews we actually about the same place that myself and my friends think it so great. My only complaint, I always tend to have a hangover the next day ;-) Pros: For bar food-it's great! Live music 24/7 Cons: I have a headache the next morning ;-) more

SUSHI CLUB in the BACK.. 5/13/2008

Go straight thru the fake caribean beer joint to the back, enter an unmarked door, and WAM.. There is a cool SoBe Club Sushi lounge in the bar. A little price, but very nice... A weird place to put it... Pros: Hidden away Sushi Lounge Cons: hard to find in the beer joint.. more

HPC Wanna-be 9/9/2007

this used to be my favorite place to go in all of south tampa. just a nice friendly neighborhood bar with reasonably priced drinks and live music. then comes all of the so called "improvements". suddenly we have lovely restrooms and sliding glass doors, which would have been fine. next comes the "DRESS CODE" and hiked up drink prices. no sleeveless shirts for men? i'm sorry-i thought this was tampa??? nevermind the thug who got in with his baggy clothes-he has sleeves! it was acceptable that the drinks were mediocre when we were a neighborhood hang out-now if i'm going to pay $6. or more for a margarita how about we use actual MIX rather than OJ and sour? i'm saddened to see the iguana i knew and loved go away. if i want to go to HPC i'll drive to hyde park. i've run my last tab at the iguana. we didn't need another yuppie bar! Pros: close to home Cons: mot your neighborhood IGUANA anymore :( more

Great place for a quick dinner 8/4/2006

Grabbed a quick dinner here. When you look at the place, it looks like a rundown tiki bar. It think that added to it's charm. I actually like the food. The gator appetizer were a delicious alternative to chicken. The salmon salad was actually well done. My waitress was attentive. I liked the fact you can actually hang out either inside or outside. Pros: reasonably priced, good food Cons: limited table space more

Need New Bartenders 6/14/2004

I used to go to the Iguana all the time and it was awesome but the bartenders there now are horrible. The old bartenders were much friendlier and knew how to make drinks. The last time i was there I ordered a white russian and it tasted like it had citrus in it so when I finally got the bartender that made its attention he said well thats the way we make it and threw his hands up like oh well and was real cocky. He then said real sarcastic " do you want something else and I said no left the drink , waited for my friends to finish theirs and left. I will never go back in there again and I will tell everyone I know not to go back in there. Plus it was a Monday evening so it wasn't busy . more

Catchy Name, That's About It 1/8/2003

Cool name, but unfortunantly this bar is frequented by yuppies that have nothing better to do than cry about their stocks, occupy bar stools and drink expensive import beers at about one per every three hours. This place needs a new clientel. Pros: none, none, none Cons: boring, stuff shirt hangout, fake people place more

  • A Bar's Bar
Dead fish on the wall, beer mirrors, a plank wooden floor and handmade tables should tell you something about this shack man's pub. The Green Iguana wants you to "enjoy a bit of the islands." The whole bar looks like it was made from flotsam. Maybe it was.

    And Pub Grub
Calamari, wings and poppers, the Iguana has the usual suspects on the appetizer menu. But grouper chunks and crab cakes are here too. Yummy. And if you're cruising for "somethin' somethin'" try the Stank Burger. Stinky blue cheese and onions on a half-pound of beef are sure to turn even the friendliest drunkards from your general direction.

    And Bar Folks
Happy Hour on Friday night gets busy. The Iguana is open for lunch as well. May I suggest the grouper sandwich? You can belly up to the bar seven days a week, but be sure to have your drinking cap on. This pub is the kind of place where you always stay for one more.
