Best Indian food I've had through grubhub (and I've tried pretty much every Indian food delivery in my area). Fresh, non-greasy and tasted AMAZING. 6 stars:) Yah more

I love this place 5/18/2009

We came here with some friends maybe two years ago or so and really liked it. Then we moved closer to where this is and have made it one of our regular spots. We just LOVE the food! Everything that we've had it so so good. And there seems to be two guys that are normally there that wait on us, and they are just as friendly as could be. There's no frills here, if that's what you are into. It's just really good food and a friendly staff. Pros: food, servers more

Nothing to do with ""Indian"" food 4/17/2009

I went there for lunch buffet, by myself. When I arrived, I was asked three times if I want to eat in or pick up food. I said I want to eat in. ""Only one? Only One? "" they asked me several times. Then, they pointed to the tables--like: sit down where you want. Two other girls were brought to their table. I guess it is quite unusual for a single woman to sit down and eat there. A cultural difference? Maybe. I have eaten in lots of Indian restaurants in Europe and the U.S. When I go to an Indian restaurant, I want Indian food. A lot of restaurants make the mistake to make their food palatable for the American taste buds. This is one of them. I must say that the food had nothing to do with ""Indian"". The vegetables tasted sweetish. They did not use any of the spices that make Indian food so delicious. It was bland. Everything tasted the same. On top of it, parts of the chicken meat was still pink inside--not healthy. I am not sure how these positive ratings come about, but I thought I should point out that the emperor does not have any clothes here. Pros: nice ambiente Cons: food more

Great Food, Nice Atmosphere, Friendly staff 2/11/2009

\r I been to this restaurant 100s of time, I love this place. I just read someone else's review. I totally not agree with you. I been to so many other indian restaurant's, but I like this one's the best. Food is excellent staff is friendly too. more

THE ENTIRE STAFF IS OVERWEIGHT AND PRETTY UGLY! 1/16/2009

When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought ""Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends,"" but I was wrong. The food was sub average at best (I could get the same Samosa and Pakoras at any higher end any indianmarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It was extremely frustrating gaining the attention of the servers, they were just hanging aroud the Bar. Some of am playing around the computer. though I frequently called for them making pleading eye gestures, waving, even calling out to them directly, all to no avail. Even as the servers passed by me and made eye contact, they kept moving on. We had to ask for our bill three times and only got it after complaining that we had asked so many times and had been waiting up to half an hour. I will definitely never come here again.\r Pros: IT WILL PROBABLY CLOSE SOON! Cons: THEY ARE STILL OOPEN! more

Best Indian Food in Los Angeles 6/24/2008

The food is spectacular and unlike most Indian places, the service is pretty good and the atmosphere is inviting and cozy. I've been here at least 30 times and I've never had anything that was poorly prepared or less than expected.\r \r The Bombay Chicken is perfectly seasoned and falls off the bone. The Korma is rich and zesty without the clumpy texture I've had at other Indian places. The Behl Puri is always fresh and crunchy. The chicken soup here is absolutely a must have every time I go. The lamb tikka masala is tender and juicy without the strong gamey taste that turns some off to lamb. I even like the coconut curry and I hate coconut.\r \r Every time I'm in here I see a celebrity too. The last time I saw Ronny James Dio. I've seen Zach Braff, Kirsten Dunst, Don Henley, Emma Thompson, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and others.\r \r I've read some complaints about the service which I'd like to address. Indian's don't have the same demands we Americans do. You will have several people attending to your table, so don't be annoyed if the person that takes your order doesn't bring your check. Just signal for help and ANYONE will take care of you with a smile and genuine appreciation. This is how most restaurants handle service outside of the US. The staff at Great India Cafe is more attentive than ANY other Indian restaurant I've been to. I\r \r In short, expect great food, good service, pleasant atmosphere. What more could you want? Don't listen to the reviews from the grammatically challenged and the pompous ""authorities on indian cuisine for 35 years"". There are a half dozen Indian places between my house and The Great Indian Cafe. While I've eaten at all of them, I usually drive past them all to eat here because it's the best place in town. Pros: great food, decent service, nice atmosphere, celebrities galore Cons: pretty much have to valet, but it's cheap and prompt more

Our Favorit Indian Restaurant - Five Stars ! 6/1/2008

Our friends recommended this place to us and we loved it. This is now our favorit Indian restaurant. The Lam Boti Masala was flavorful and very delicious. We love the Somosa, the garlic nann and the pashwari naan. The service has been great and lunch menu is fairly reasonable. Highly recommended. more

One of My Favorite Restaurants of All Time 5/22/2008

I'm a regular at Great India Cafe and every time I go there, I find myself saying, ""I forgot how good the food is here."" This is one of my all time favorite restaurants and I everyone I bring there loves it too. It's not much a of a ""scene"". It's never too busy. And it's completely unpretentious. It's just great food. The staff is curteous. My only gripe would be that they don't have a full bar--only beer & wine. Still, if you like Indian food, you must try Great India Cafe! Pros: Excellent food Cons: Beer & wine only more

Good Tofu Tikka Masala - Good Appetizers - Good Location/atmosphere - Lousy Service 11/24/2007

Good food (the tikka masala is great here), especially the Tofu variety. Appetizers (crunchies) are great. Vindalu is subpar, watery and is not spicy at all if you want it spicy order it extra hot. Atmosphere is nice, but service is abyssmal...almost like they're being rude on purpose.\r \r Would have higher rating if not for bad service Pros: ambience, tikka masala, appetizers Cons: service, vindalu more

Neither of us will ever return to this place! 8/4/2007

I had seen sevaral favorable reviews on Great India Cafe. I've been eating Indian food for over 35 years and consider myself an authority of sorts. A simple dinner (8-22-07) at Great India Cafe with a friend (who is also experienced in Indian cuisine) was extremely disappointing for us both.\r \r Surprisingly, two of three dishes were practically inedible. The eggplant entre (about $9) was flavorless, overcooked and appeared to have been prepared earlier in the day. There was almost no perceivable spice in this unattractive dish. A ""rice of the day"" (overpriced at about $5 or $6) a small dish of pulao with a few peas and carrots had a distinct foul aftertaste - either burnt/old cooking oil or possibly a cleaning chemical. \r \r The third dish, a lamb wrap served without the chutneys stated on the menu was not bad - but we both felt stongly that this restaurant was ""cutting corners"" with our meal. I would surely not recommend eating here to anyone and unfortunately I will not return as a paying customer to give them another try with my stomach. Pros: Nice walking area in center of Studio City, comfortable outside seating Cons: Surprisingly poor food, flavorless overcooked eggplant, foul tasting rice - honest! more

Good food 9/2/2006

If you're craving for authentic Indian food, this is the place! Tandoori Chicken was tasty, their lamb was delicious, and the garlic naan was flavorful. The servers were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was spacious and romantic. Parking is hard to find so splurge on their cheap valet service.\r \r Pros: Tasty dishes, Good Customer Service Cons: Parking more

Fresh, authentic, delicious Indian and you don't have to drive to Artesia 6/26/2006

I make my own Indian food and have for years - rarely go out for it, even though it takes hours to prepare anything remotely authentic, because it takes amazing food for me to prefer restaurant fare. This little restaurant in Studio City is fantastic. I eat meat but only ordered vegetarian because of the friends I was with, and I really enjoyed both the regional specialty I ordered (chick peas) and the aloo palak. We ordered the spinach & garlic naan, thanks to another Citysearch reviewer and it was THE BEST naan I have ever tasted. The spinach is fresh and it is loaded with garlic, the dough was piping hot and just crisp enough. Amazing. I will be craving that naan often. Not sure about the reviewer who said this Indian was bland - I would say it's light and fresh but definitely not bland. A real gem. Pros: Variety, spinach & garlic naan, desert list Cons: I was there on a weeknight, but I could imagine parking could be an issue on other days more

Not good! 6/17/2006

The only thing more bland than the food was the service. Although the decor is nice, the food is pretty tasteless and the service unhelpful (in fact, it's hard to get the waiters to talk, and for some reason, some seemed to have an attitude). Try another place for Indian food--I've been to dozens of Indian restaurants on multiple continents, but this one is definitely off my list. more

Tasty Food, Great Service 6/11/2006

We've been to Indian restaurants all over the world, and this ranks with the best of them. With a few exceptions (the crabcakes), the menu is very authentic, especially for a Valley Indian restaurant. Definitely try the Spinach Naan and the Chicken Tikka Masala, as well as the complimentary Papaardam. The Chicken Tikka is decent, but a little dry and not marinated enough--it comes with a mint sauce that could use improvement. All in all, the experience was delightful--the servers were very attentive and friendly even though we were the only diners in the restaurant. And our credit card was pleased to find a very reasonable bill. Will definitely return for the delicious and lighter preparation of our Indian favorites!\r They also have a surprisingly far delivery range for an LA restaurant, in case you don't want to hike over to the Valley and hunt for parking (valet is also available, as always).\r Order the Spinach Naan, you will not be disappointed! Pros: Service, Spinach Naan, free Papardam Cons: Crab Cakes (they should stick to Indian food) more
