Avoid this bar 8/6/2007

This place is horrible. If you are an outsider this is NOT the place to go. 1st time we went to this place we saw a guy get beat up by 6 bouncers because he went into the ladies room. They said he was uncontrollable he was not fighting back at all. They punched him in the face had him in a headlock through him down a flight of steps slammed his face into a wall pulled down his pants and through him down another flight of steps so he could not catch himself then dragged him out of the bar. This is an outrage. I would not recommend this palce to anyone ever. If this is how they treat people for going into a ladies room by mistake why would you want to come and hang out. (by the way the bathrooms are not marked great either since we had just come out not sure which one was which. Grapestreet never again Pros: Supposed to be a hip place Cons: All they want to do is fight (bouncers) huge men on steroids more

AWESOME BANDS!-THE DEFOG 4/27/2007

I don't make it out as much as I'd like to GS, but the bands keep getting better. I'm obsessed with this band The Defog, who's coming back on MAY 17th @ 8:30. I highly suggest checking them out. Every time I go I find a new awesome band. Way better then most the stuff around South Philly, and totally innovative and fun. The bar is decent and pretty big so bring a posse. Going towards the weekend is the best bet for finding new sounds. Check out their EP's. Don't miss THE DEFOG!!! thedefogDOTCOM Pros: The scene for new awesome music Cons: nothing more

lame place 3/28/2007

this place is corny. thug hip hoppers in 1 room and ok live music in the next. Expensive to get in and for drinks. lots of fights with a riot about to happen any minute. Pros: live music Cons: dangerous more

Best place for local original music! 11/2/2006

This place can't be beat...any season and any night of the week. The best night may be Thursday night hosted by Jaxon from WMMR. The crowd is a good mix (age, gendet etc) from around the Philadelphia area. Make sure to check out Grape Street's schedule to see when you can catch Matt Santry...you won't be disappointed! more

One of the Extremes 10/25/2006

I've been to Grape Steet a bunch of times, and its either great or awful. There's almost always at least a $7 cover and sometimes that is worth it (when the DJ is playing and its the regular Saturday night crowd) or not worth it (on a Thursday when you're not there to see a band and the dance floor is empty). Bring cash since you cant start a tab. Pros: Good Saturday Night Cons: Cover more

Grape Street Is hott 1/22/2006

The Woman are beautiful. The Drinks Are good. Dj in one room, live music in the other. Just a great all around place if you and your friends to chill-out. However, i recommend you eat either before or after. Pros: Beautiful woman, Versatile Cons: Gets Very Crowded, Bathrooms-tough more

great night, except for the end 4/16/2005

I really enjoyed Grape Street Philadelphia. Manayunk is a really great neighborhood, even made a native New Yorker like myself want to move out here. It's the best of both worlds, one venue is dj's for those who like to dance, and a live band for those who are servants to rock. My only gripe with the whole experience was at 10 minutes to closing, they put on a song , played the first 10 seconds, and flipped the lights on, signaling it was time to go. It was very abrupt, and frankly a really crap way to end a night. I also had 3 drinks, all margaritas, and I was charged 3 different prices by 3 different bartenders. They were good, but sort of overpriced for what I understand is Philly standard. I have paid less for margaritas in NYC, so it was a bit of a shock. Pros: great atmosphere, good view of stage, inexpensive cover Cons: ended night abruptly more

Editorial

  • In Short
The crowd at this Manayunk music venue tends to be Villanova undergrads and fans of alt and folk rock hanging out downstairs, while weekend fans of hip-hop bounce around on the second floor. Five nights a week, The Grape Street's small stage hosts touring college bands or local acts, such as K Floor, June Rich and Tommy Conwell. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the ratty yet homey upstairs hosts DJs hailing from nearby Roxborough and the 'Yunk.
