Sadly, gross 11/15/2010

Coming from Chicago, I am used the spectacular and relatively reasonably priced sushi of San Francisco. I am therefore very disappointed when I find a place like this that serves 95% good sushi and then with one lazy cut, provides a piece of salmon with skin and fat to make it taste like you're eating bait. Worse yet, the chef and owner did not understand that even with fresh fish, a bad cut gives bad sushi. I cannot recommend. more

bad in so many ways 8/26/2007

sushi is not fresh and staff is obnoxious. i don't mind paying a premium for good sushi, but this place is not worth any price. Pros: neighborhood Cons: sushi, service more

long waits, cranky staff and overpriced so-so sushi 3/19/2007

Cole Valley location-I am continually frustrated with this restaurant. I have gone there because I live in Cole Valley and everyone here seems to love it- I DON""T KNOW WHY! The staff are continually rude and impolite- esp for a Japanese place-and the food is mediocre and overpriced. Most locals act as though it's funny to be treated like poo-poo by the wait-staff. Pros: convienant to Cole Valley Cons: long wait, prices too high, cranky staff. more

Below average Japanese food 10/17/2006

So-so food and way too expensive. I have been to this restaurant several times only because it is the only Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. I kept giving it another try despite repeated disappointments. The sushi and sashimi aren't bad but they are too pricey for what they are. If you befriend the manager, sushi chef or the owner, you can actually ask for the freshest ingredients of the day from the sushi bar. Chicken teriyaki is always cooked extremely dry and the sauce is way too sweet. Udon is basically overcooked noodles in salty hot liquids. (I'm pretty sure they use fronzen udon that are sold in supermarkets.) Oyakodon is way too sweet and salty. Generally all the entrees I've tried have been too salty. San Francisco has many quality Japanese restaurants to offer and this is certainly not one of them. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Below average food more

Taking advantage of the tourists! 7/27/2006

This place is really really bad. Hands down. Granted, the location at the wharf gets them plenty of clueless tourist money, but the restaurant is not worth the property it's located on. Pros: ambiance Cons: Cost, parking, food more

Not so great. 10/14/2005

The food is mediocre, the wait is often long, and you only get good service if they know you personally or recognize you as a regular. I've ordered take-out from this place about a dozen times over the span of two months and was always greeted by the same rude greeting, followed by a hurried ""take your food and leave"" attitude. I've seen people treated like royalty before and after me almost every single time I've gone there. Not worth the annoyance for mediocre sushi, in my humble opinion. Pros: good location Cons: everything else more

I love to eat and therefore I love restaurants. I have been to both the Cole St. and Hyde St. locations since 97 and the food is absolutely incredible. Their menus exhibit some of the more traditional items but also get creative with delectable results. A broad selection of beverages are available both of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties. Their appetizers are amazing (pot stickers, soybeans, saladsyou name it). Their sushi is fantastic, ultra fresh, and the kitchen foods are equally delicious. My favorite hot food items are the Sizzling Clay Pot and the Red Snapper entree. The portions are generous, which isnt often the case in many restaurants and the service, especially on Hyde St., (it's much larger which helps) is very gracious. All things considered, I think its the best value for Japanese food in the city. Pros: Food, Variety, Ambiance more

Great value and friendly service! 7/4/2004

We found this place in Zagat's and decided to try it out. We were pleasantly surprised by both the freshness and large portions of sushi. We will be back on our next trip to San Francisco! Pros: Great value, Large pieces of sushi more

Excellent Sushi in San Fran 6/3/2004

I went on Citysearch prior to a trip to San Fran and based on the reviews I made a reservation here. What a great meal. Great service and excellent sushi! Just as good as Japan. Highly recommended. Pros: Reasonable prices, Great Atmosphere, Easily accessible more

Best Sushi in the City! 5/11/2004

Don't pass by this little place on Hyde just b/c you think you can't find good sushi in North Beach - au contraire. This place has it all - AMAZING sushi food, try the Tropicana or Sentimento roll. Thick w/ fresh fresh fish and creative vegetables like red peppers, mangos, or cilantro. Service is wonderful, very kind - don't be afraid to say hi to the friendly Sushi chef! If you're looking for the best sushi in the city (I know I was) you're search stops here. Oh, and try the fried ice cream - its to die for. Pros: Amazing Food, Great Service, ComfortableAtmosphere more

Grandeho's Kamekyo is a Wonderful Little ""Jewel"" of a Japanese Restaurant. The Food is Delicious; with 'Eye-Catching' Presentations of the Sushi. The Service is Very Good; the Interior Decor is Warm; Pretty and Charming and the Staff is Friendly and efficient. I was truly and pleasantly surprised when I went their for Dinner. I am glad that there is a really good Japanese Restaurant in the Fisherman's Wharf Area. Thank You and stay as Good as You are! more

Best sushi outside of Japan. Extremely fresh fish, good representation of the classics. Pros: Fresh sushi, great service, not much of a wait more

Delectable spicy tuna rolls! 7/30/2002

There's no better spot for sushi than the bar at Grandeho's Kamekyo. The spicy tuna rolls are the best in the city, and the service is excellent. Add a bottle of cold unfiltered sake to your meal, and you'll go home completely happy. Pros: inexpensive, great food, good service Cons: crowded, not much parking more

neighborhood good 7/29/2002

The friendly nieghborhood atmosphere and the awesome sushi of Myron and UkoSon make this one of the top 3 sushi resturants in the city for the sushi eater not looking for a scene. more

DELISH 7/23/2002

Grandeho's Kamekyo on Hyde is THE BEST SUSHI IN THE CITY! Fernando and Cole, the expert sushi chefs, serve up the most tasty and creative sushi. Innovation doesn't come at the expense of authenticity, though. Just ask Fernando or Cole to put something together using your favorite ingredients--the product will be the most incredible sushi you've ever tasted. more

Great Sushi in Cole Valley 6/18/2002

Consistently Great! Sushi. I have eaten here for years and make it one of my ""Must Eat At Weekly"" restaurants. Also, Great Staff, Great Chefs. Pros: Quality, Fresh Cons: Buzy, Small Venue more

Wonderful 6/17/2002

Great food, great service, great ambiance! I enjoy meeting my friends for sushi and sake at this great restaurant! more

Good Food, Awful Service 5/19/2002

Definately good sushi, but some of the worst service I've experienced in SF. I've never been so rushed in my life. The waitresses get visibly upset if you don't have your entire order ready within 5 minutes of sitting down....not to mention if you add on to your order (which is the fun thing about sushi)...I would go here for lunch, but if you expect a mellow, cool sushi experience, go elsewhere. Pros: good sushi, friendly chefs Cons: terrible service, rushed more
