Check your receipt, often. 1/7/2011

Three times during the past three months I happened to check my receipt . All three times, I had been charged too much for an item. They continuously list products at one price, but then charge a customer higher. In all three cases when I brought it to the manager's attention, he was rude claimed he'd 'give me the refund' as a 'favor' since his guys just put the wrong price on the display. And that it really should be the higher price. False advertising is not a good idea. Being rude about it is worse. People buy things that are listed with low prices because they think they are getting a good deal, when in fact they are not. more

THE VILLAGE AT IT'S FINEST! 3/30/2006

NYC is becoming flooded with GIANT sized markets (Whole Foods,Trader Joe's) with huge lines and no customer relations. However if you want to feel like family and have employees who will remember your name, say hi to your kids and even give them raisins and lollipops for free than this is the place for you. There has been a few occasions where I was bored at home and decided to go shop at the Gourmet Garage on 7th Avenue because I knew when I got there I was going to be a part of something. This store has nothing but QUALITY. I have had an issue or 2 since it has opened but the Management at this store really know how to please a customer. The delivery guy Dean is awesome, my kids call him frankenstein! They are a bit pricey but at the end of the day you are satisfied! Pros: CUSTOMER SERVICE AT IT'S BEST... Cons: I would like to see more Organic and Kosher items. more

Gourmet Garage Rules 3/28/2006

Since it arrived in our neighborhood 8 or nine years ago, GG has consistently delivered excellent quality at a reasonable price. The staff is the same as when the place opened, and Dean, the delivery guy, is almost a member of our family. The prices are competitve with a few monthly good deals thrown in. As a former professional chef I can tell you that the quality is some of the best in the city. Save the weekend shop for Whole Foods, we go to GG three times a week. more

It's a trick 2/20/2006

The creaters of this establishment must RAKE IT IN, because they've got an amazing business model which is as follows: Step #1: Create a completely average grocery store but remove most of the product variety. Step #2: Make it look fancy like those other high-end markets and put the word ""Gormet"" everywhere. Step #3: Sell items for much higher than they're worth. Because this franchise is expanding, people must be buying into (and how!) the fancy, gussied-up labels. Just because something says ""gormet"" doesn't mean it isn't a load of dung. Their coffee is horrible, and their own brand of products is below average. If you're looking for a good high end market, go to any of the others in the city. If you're looking to pay much less for the stuff Gormet Garage sells, go to any average super market. Pros: looks nice, looks fancy Cons: way overpriced, poor selection more

Not so gourmet garage 3/16/2005

I was amazed at the high prices. Example: McCann's Irish steel cut oatmeal is $3.79 at G ourmet Garage and only $2.69 at Whole Foods. I rest my case. Added to the high prices is the surliness of the staff, frequently out-of-date foods, questionable refrigerating. A pity as they started out so well. Pros: convenient locations Cons: high prices, surly staff more

Very nice produce - but PRICEY 1/2/2003

As most concur, this place has a beautiful array of produce and some unique, hard to find items. It is also VER Expensive and not a good place to shop for staples - but it is a good resource for planning a gourment meal. Pros: Produce, Exotic Fruit, Imported Cheeses more

Not so Gourmet Garage 9/12/2002

I loved this place when it first opened. The selection was interesting, the food was inexpensive fresh and good. For at least a year, however, I have been troubled with stale food, old cheese, wilted vegetables and out-of-date prepared foods. The place is impossible to get around in and the staff act as though your being there is a gross inconvenience. I jump on the subway and go to Whole Foods at 24th! more
