Editorial review from Citysearch 6/12/2013

I was having problems with my car dying on me and kept needing to have it jumped and it got to the point where I needed to have my car towed to the nearest auto repair shop. I had it towed to Goodyear and let them know that I needed a new battery because it kept dying on me and they insisted on doing a diagnostics to make sure nothing else was wrong. We'll it turns out there was nothing else wrong with my car, I just needed a new battery (like I said when I came in). The battery is $119 and the diagnostic fee is $130, so basically I'm paying (with all the service fees and tax) about $275 for a battery.\r \r Talk about taking advantage of a woman. Please consider taking your car somewhere other than here. more

Total con artists! 8/5/2010

Why can't I give NO STARS? I just wrote a long tirade on Yelp, so I can't be bothered to retype the whole thing, but I wanted to spread the word as much as possible that these guys will make up phone repeair needs AND charge (or at least try) you way more than other shops for those repairs. more

Not Recommended 3/25/2009

I went in for a brake issue, the estimate was for around $1000. When I didn't just jump at this, I was told I could easily get a Goodyear credit card to help pay. After saying that I wanted to take my car somewhere else for another estimate, they panicked and sent me a new estimate, this time for $580. I compared what they were charging for parts against prices I could find online. I was somewhat content to see that what they were now charging for parts was near to what was listed. When I compared the numbers against the 1st estimate, they tried to charge 3-4 times the list price! They also cut out a lot of labor charges that I can only assume were bogus as well, because, in the end, they fixed my problem in about 2 hours. I understand that in the car world that this is standard practice, but such a clear case of trying to take advantage of someone is inexcusable, especially from a national, ""reputable"" company. Pros: Quick? Cons: Tried to overcharge by almost double more

Good Year - no good! 11/26/2007

My '99 Chevy Blazer broke down 100 yards from these guys so I pushed the car to them and asked them to look at it. They discovered the problem was a fuel pump and gave me a quote. I found it hard to believe that a fuel pump could cost what they quoted me so I called my regular mechanic on Rainer Ave. (just south of I-90) and asked them what they would charge. I ended up having my Car towed by my regular mechanic several miles away and with the towing cost included and paying the diagnostic charge at good year I still saved $200 by having my trusted mechanic do it. Yes it is an expensive part but they were flat out trying to rip me off by several hundred dollars. It was fun to tell Good Year how much money I was saving by having it towed out of their lot and done by a fair mechanic. But the kicker was after I told them that they said they would match the price...So they basically admitted that they added at least $400 profit on top of an $800 (2 hr) job.I told them no way and that I was more

BEWARE: Think very carefully about taking your vehicle here 9/25/2006

Took my truck there because it was making noise in the fan belt area. They suggested I replace my tensioner and belt, both which were less than a year old. Against my better judgement I had them do the work, which was 300% more than what I spent to have the exact same work done a year earlier (I moved from San Francisco 3 months ago so I couldn't go back to the original mechanic.) Got the truck back and the noise was worse than before I left it...the noise moved from only when idling to all the time, worst when accellerating, which was never a problem before. Took it back in, they looked at it again, and told me they THINK it MIGHT be one of two ADDITIONAL things, but can't be sure if either of them will fix the noise. Hmm, I thought the initial work was supposed to fix the noise. So now they want to charge me $150 more (on top of $425) to fix one of the new ""possibilities"". Cons: My idiocy for not heeding the "Help Wanted" sign outside. more

Don't do it... 6/7/2006

Needing a new oil pan recently, I was towed into Goodyear on a Sunday. On my return 2-3 days later, I had been charged a diagnostic fee (unnecessary since I had already told them what was wrong), and was told I needed new struts and new front tires. I took my car to our local mechanic after returning home...much to my dismay but not surprised, I did NOT need new tires and the struts were just fine. I actually only needed an alignment. Unless absolutely necessary (as in my case), don't take your car to someone you don't know. more

Could not trust 7/13/2005

A few years back I only went to goodyear, they always seemed somewhat nice and helpfull. One time I went there to repair a flat they told me I needed to buy all 4 new tires because they were currently illegal. They said they couldnt by law let me leave the store without 4 new tires. That seemed a little fishy to me because I had just bought the tires 5 months ago and not used them that much throughout that time. I talked to them and threatened them and finally left (I had to pay to get my flat fixed). I went over to Les Schwab and asked them and they said the tires were fine, just a little underinflated and they pumped them up for me. Les Schwab was very nice and I only go to them now. Be wary when dealing with Goodyear. PROS: CONS: not honest more
