* WHY IS GOODWILL INDUSTRIES RAISING THEIR PRICES ?? * * REMEMBER WHEN THRIFT STORE SHOPPING USED TO BE AFFORDABLE ? * * GOODWILL'S SALES ARE UP AT LEAST 30% SINCE OUR ECONOMY STARTED GOING IN THE TOILET ! * * DEMAND LOWER PRICES ! * 2006/2007 TOTAL REVENUE $39,051,217 Monies spent for Goodwill's basic job training and education programs (this is the supposed main goal//function of the profit off of the thrift store sales) $2,779,763 Monies spent on operating Goodwill's thrift stores (paid employees wages & compensation) $31,933,783 Monies spent on upper management salaries $1,080,192 Net assets after all expenses are paid $13 million. What this means is LESS THAN 8% of Goodwill's expenses are going to fund the PROGRAMS THAT ACTUALLY HELP THE PEOPLE IN THEIR MISSION STATEMENT (this is their mission statement...."Employment training and basic education to individuals experiencing significant barriers to economic opportunity...") !! The rest of the expenses go to running the thrift stores and paying the CEO's and other wages !!!!!! The tax forms on record for 06/07' are deceiving as they combine the paid employees expenses and the expenses related to the job training and education programs together, however, if you are able to really analyze it, there is a very clear section that breaks down these two expenses ! And speaking of CEO and upper management wages....this is what they were compensated for the 2006/2007 year Keep in mind~~ the "average pay" for a CEO for a non profit company in the pacific northwest in 2006/2007 was $135K Ken Collig President Director $218,918 Michael Jurich VP- CFO $141,816 Cynthia Foslund VP- Operations $142,311 Janice Jackson-Haley VP- Human Resources $95,344 BG Nabors-Glass VP- Programs $88,032 Bert Fish VP- Loss Prevention $81,811 So now when you go to Goodwill and shop to be frugal, think of these figures, think of our current economy, think of Washingtons 8.4% unemployment rate more

Because shoes are always on my thrift store shopping list, I prefer a store that saves me time in this department, and because Value Village, like Volume Shoe Source and other discount stores, organizes by size, I’m able to go straight to the shoes most likely to fit me and glance around for the four to six pairs in the style I want. Good Will, for some reason, organizes by style and color. This means that I often have to try several sections (though I’m usually open to different colors and styles, I have no say in my shoe size), and, once there, try on everything I like that seems to approximate my size. So when I’m shopping for shoes, which is usually, this one waste of time is reason enough that I prefer nearly all other thrift stores to Good Will. more

You are not promised to find whatever you are looking for here at Goodwill, but chances are, you might find something you will want. Everything is dirt cheap, but also dirt dirty. I personally do not feel comfortable buying used clothing and furniture. If you are okay with that or you just want to save a truckload of money to outfit your family, Goodwill is your store. more

This is a huge Goodwill store. There is a very large selection to choose from. They have everything - tons of books and clothing items, linens, housewares, furniture, electronics, etc. However much of the linens and clothing is in disarray. They keep it tidied as much as possible, but it isn't organized well, making it confusing to find anything. Also, some of the prices are a bit high for a second hand store. However, there are also some good deals in the mix, you just have to keep your eyes open. Customer service is almost bad, it really needs improvement. If you really want to find a gem, and are up for a hunt, I would still check these guys out. more

Looking for a used stereo or VCR? Look no further than the Goodwill! My CD player started to skip and it was going to cost $100 to fix it. I when to the Goodwill and found the exact same model for $15! I'm still using it three years later. They also have a good selection of books and CD's - again reasonably priced. Lots of deals on clothes too. more

what can't you find at goodwill, they have used everything. I am a male, so I put this in the men's clothing section. Almost everything is used, and sometimes you can find some nice stuff for really cheap. I usually go there for halloween costumes. One year we were milli vanalli (sp?), we found some sweet blazers with shoulder pads and tights. But you can also find furniture, household goods, jewelry, electronics, sporting goods, toys, etc more
