I have to say, I always wanted to be famous and get in all the great clubs and ... but tonight, I felt like i was a part of the Hills or Paris Hilton! LOL I know that sounds bad, but i truly had a BLAST!! Drinks were STRONG, there was a James Brown type band that was AMAZING and I was shaking my booty all night long! I'm telling all my friends and I will make this a regular hang out!! Pros: The scenery, the staff, the pretty people... Cons: ...??? That my tab was not free..?? more

Hot hot hot 1/12/2008

This is an amazing location with restaurants, a Hotel and Spa. If you have never been to Texas this is a must stop. The dining experience here is enormous, Many many flavors, wine bars, and food choices. The nightlife at this bar is an experience you're not likely to find elsewhere. Did I mention the 13,000 square feet of outdoor lake-front patios, 1,200 foot dance floor, unique, signature bars and state-of-the-art sound, lighting and video systems? Dance the night away here. The spa has body wraps, facials, massage everything you can think of as well . The spa and this nightclub is on the top of my list for nightlife gifts and the day spa experience. Come to Gaylord where EVERYTHING really is bigger and better in Texas. Pros: You have to see this place to really understand how hot it is! Cons: Parking is free! Bring your ticket for validation, I thought I had to pay, so don't be fooled. more

take your fake id 1/2/2008

I wanted to go have a few drinks, listen to a band and enjoy the place. But a 20 year old cousin could not get in to be served with his parents by 19 year old wait staff members. Doesn't make much sense to me. Oh well, another club got our money. Rating....zero!!! Cons: parking, location, price more

Best on Friday or Saturday 12/15/2007

Love it!!! I go with friends or for dates. No traffic to deal with like in Dallas and it is easy to get in and out of. The valet cost extra but they have free self-parking, you just have to ask for it from the bartenders or hostesses. It gets crowded though so going early if you want to sit would be a good idea. The bartenders were very nice although extremely busy. The drinks are a little pricey but they were strong...maybe becasue I tipped the bartender well or he just made me strong drinks. Apparently TABC is in there a lot though so be careful. WELL WORTH WHATEVER IT COST YOU TO GO!!! Pros: Everything Cons: TABC is in there a lot apparently, a little pricey more

Dirty and poorly managed 12/5/2007

I hate this expression, but oh my gawd! After reading so much about the Glass Cactus I finally checked it out on a Thursday night. What a disappointment it was. The place was so dirty that I couldn?t believe it. Two or three drinks were spilled on the floor in front of the bar area, and it was never mopped. There was also a spilled drink on the mostly empty dance floor that was never cleaned. The floor behind the bar was littered with napkins and other debris. It looked like a dump. For most of the night the bar area was also littered with napkins and lime slices until someone finally swept it. Apparently none of the Gaylord management ever visit this place, because if they did the Glass Cactus management would be out of work. Pros: None that I noticed. Cons: Expensive, dirty bar area, poor atmosphere. more

Ladies night? That's a joke 11/14/2007

I went to this place with my girlfriends for ladies night on Wednesday and granted it is in the middle of the week, but I surely didn't expect to see some chick screaming on the mic, and 10 people in the club. Once the screaming lady got off the stage the DJ began to play some music..The music wasn't bad but the 5 of us were on the dance floor and the other 5 just stood around. All the men that came in were hungry old business men who had absolutely NO GAME. Don't go on Wednesday, you don't pay a cover, but it's certainly a waste of your evening. Pros: Awesome view of the Lake Cons: Everything else more

Discover how quickly your money goes to this place! 10/9/2007

Heard the hype and decided to go out with my hubby on a Friday night. That was the first mistake (not the hubby date thing but choosing Friday night)! We got there at 7:50 pm and there was line outside the door just to get in. Once inside, we were charged $10 each for a cover that started at 8:00pm. So they had all these folks in line before 8pm so that the club could start charging cover (now that is scam). The struggle to get a drink was the next issue. There are not enough bartenders for one and I am short, so trying to squeeze through a throng of people to make any eye contact with a bartender was next to impossible. Once noticed (ha ha) my glass of wine cost $8 and that was the house wine! If we wanted a table next to the dancefloor you had to "reserve" it by purchasing a bottle of liquor, starting price $224.00. If you are there on the corporate credit card, this is the place for you to splurge on overpriced drinks and tapas style appetizers (meaning there is close to nothing on your plate). If you are a hard worker and love a good deal at a great price-don't come here, your entire paycheck could be gone before the night is over. Pros: nice view from patio Cons: overpriced drinks and food, cover charge, crowded bars, no room to dance more

Nice place! 7/31/2007

I used to work at some of the nicest clubs in big city's but have been out of the scene the past couple of years while raising my kids. I'm not as interested in the 'club scene' as I used to be but I loved this place. First of all, we arrived at 7:30pm to have some early cocktails and spiniach dip (tasty but a bit overpriced) and therefore, we got in free! We had an amazing cocktail waitress and a great experience with a manager who got my husband and friends a cigar. He actually gave us all free passes to come back. We also received some free passes from some security guy just roaming around. Everyone seemed really friendly, which I have learned can be hard to find. They music was excellent, I loved how they played all sorts of genres. The dance floor is decent sized but not huge. They layout of the place is pretty nice while the patios are awesome! If you're like me and looking at having a good time with friends, while having a few drinks and listening to good music (that isn't ALL rap or country), check this place out! Pros: Awesome view from patios, great service, nice music Cons: Pricey food menu more

Nothing Texan about this place 7/9/2007

Go anywhere else because NOTHING about this place is "Texan." Can't believe the Twister decided to bury their good Texas musicians inside the bowels of this sad, prissy place. $10 cover? Are you KIDDING? For what? AND you have to pay to park too! BS! This place doesn't even carry bottled drinks for the ladies! I asked the bartender if he had Smirnoff Ice or Bacardi Silver in a bottle (you know for us TEXAS girls who LIKE drinking out of a bottle) and he laughed at me. Ask me if I left him a tip, the answer would be HE**no. This place bites and it's an embarrassment to real Texas folks that this may be a visitor's first and worst impression of Texas! 'Cuz it ain't even CLOSE to what REAL Texans know about good Texas music, or how to party here. Their ONLY redeeming value is the nice patio. THAT'S IT. If you are thinking about paying $15.00 just to get in the door for absolutely nothing...go 2 more miles into downtown Grapevine and enjoy REAL Texas entertainment instead, and I promise they won't charge you to park or a $10 cover just to get in the door. SAD! Pros: Nice Patio Cons: Cover, Pay to Park, Don't get the "Shooters" (because it's four bites of food for $13.00) more

NO SHORTS! 4/26/2007

Make sure you don't wear nice shorts and sandals with a Tommy Bahama shirt! You may be met on the front steps by a rude security guy who tells you that although you drove from Plano, you are not welcome. This is what my wife and I were told at 8:05pm on Friday because apparently the dress code changes at 8:00pm. It would be nice if this was noted on their website. It would also be nice if they utilized a little tact with their delivery!!! To top everything off two guys in old blue jeans and tennis shoes walked right by to enjoy a "dressy evening" on the lake! more

Worst Night Out possible 3/9/2007

The security team makes it impossible for you to have any fun. If you look at someone from across the bar wrong, they ask you to go outside until you've cooled down. If someone is scream obsenities at you, but they're buddies with one of the hostess, it is your fault. There is no reason that I would ever intentionally go back to this overpriced palace of over aged hipsters thinking that they can dance when really it looks like they are going to need a hip replacement by the end of the night. The perfect place to lose your buzz.. Pros: Big Cons: Everything else more

Editorial
  • In Short
With its stone portico entrance and phalanx of parking attendants, bouncers, and doormen, Glass Cactus creates an imposing presence in an otherwise-isolated patch of prairie. The scale is so grand as to be overwhelming, with 39,000 square feet total, including two floors and five bars. The interior boasts the same surreal decor as the nearby Gaylord Texan Resort. The clientele consists of guests of the hotel, as well as locals looking for some live music.
