The hostesses didn't even seem to want to be there -- why have more than one person standing around? Pros: Main Courses, Salads Cons: Service, Price

Never again! 5/26/2010

Portions were way too small for the price. Service was slow. When I received my credit card bill, I noticed that the restaurant overcharged me. I called them to have the extra money refunded and instead they charged my card AGAIN. I called to have that fixed and was told to call back the next day. That is not the way to do business! When I threatened to call the Better Business Bureau all of a sudden they could refund my money. AVOID this place! There are so many better Italian restaurants in the area. more

Best Pri-fixed lunch in the City!!! 4/29/2009

This is truly the best prifixed lunch in all of New York! For $13.00 You get a three course meal with deliciously large portions and a vast menu to choose from. They also have a wonderful wine selection. Just don't come if you are looking for lunch in a hurry. The service was a bit on the slow side. Pros: Food and Pricing Cons: Slow service more

Always a wonderful time 8/27/2008

My boyfriend and I go to Roberto Passon on a regular basis, and are never dissapointed! The food is always excellent, usually with a few specials that intrigue us. Yes, it is a small restaurant, and is usually packed to the gills, but that is a part of its charm. We enjoy the great food, italian wine list, and a waitstaff that will bring us something when we need it and leave us alone otherwise! Pros: food, wine list Cons: small space more

If I had to give it zero stars, if I could 8/18/2008

This is not a quality restaurant, With so many restaurants in the city. The pumpkin ravoli tasted like it was from a can. The bread was not fresh and the hummus tasted sour. They come around with stale bread and provide everyone with hummus and a tomato spread. The appetizers were overpriced and not of good quality. The rabbit was about as rubbery as you can get. The water was warm, they don't even put ice in the water. The bartender can't make a drink- the mojito was absolutely nasty. The staff is rude. With so many restaurants in the city; this 'restaurant' seems to set itself as being one of the worst all-around. Cons: Everything imaginable more

Worst place ever 8/9/2008

One of the worst places I have ever encountered. For one, the seating arrangement in the place is awful. They crowd in as many tables as they can, and the waiters/busboys constantly bump into you. The waitress never comes over to ask how your food is. You can wait forever for someone to take away your food. Someone ordered the rabbit--it was dried out. The liver for the appetizer was not too great. The arugula salad with mango was all arugla, and one piece of crusty goat cheese. The list can go on. The drinks have no alcohol in them. The waitress spills my drink on me, apologizes, doesn't offer me a new drink, gets all over my dress, doesn't offer to pay a dry cleaning bill, doesn't replace the drink, and the $10 drink was on the bill. Never again and I told all my friends not to go to this place. Beware! Oh, and the bread was stale. Cons: everything more

Roberto is the best! 5/16/2008

I'd like to agree with Serafino, Bravo! I am Italian but american born, and I can tell you that Roberto's food is very close to what you will eat in Italy. It's unfortunate that alot of people go to Italian restaurants looking for puddles of tomato sauce, and mountains of cheese - people please, this is NOT ITALIAN FOOD. Also, Roberto is one of the nicest guys you will meet, and his staff are very pleasant. It's a very busy and small place, and sometimes people get stressed out, but I've never, ever been treated poorly here. I also happen to know ,that there have been some former employees who have been writing horrible reviews to try and ruin his reputation, but whoever you are, dont' worry, you will never succeed! more

Just plain awful 5/2/2008

Where do I begin, the hostess never smiled and there were two of them that looked upset that we came through the door even thou we had a reservation. The waiter came by twice with no water after I ask three different people for some. They served stale bread - you couldn't even break it open it was rockhard. Our entree came out so fast we didn't even sip our wine yet. And the entrees were horrible. Don't get me wrong I love garlic but when the chop up a whole clove of it and there is more butter and olive oil than pasta in my dish I have a major problem with that. They served a ""half"" lobster that was completely dry and tasteless. I couldn't even take one bite of it. My friend had the chicken wrapped with prosciutto and mozzerella it was so dry and salty. Nothing tasted fresh or new it covered up by garlic and salt...... Pros: Nothing Cons: The waitstaff and the food more

autentico, come in italia 2/27/2008

Well, i was born and raised in italy, in the north. Clearly who write about bad food is probably used to little italy ""american italian food"" type of places. I cannot find any other explanation, because the food here is as close as you can be of eating in italy. I come here whenever i can, i don't live nearby. I tried also they other places, and the food is good everywhere Roberto cooks. Seriously people, get a grip!! the service may not be a 4 star, but sure if you wait 10 minutes fo the table it means that the restaurant is popular and should be happy to wait. Or you can go just around the corner and eat at the italian place that it's always empty... Pros: really delicious food Cons: not a waiting area more

Really good food... 12/13/2007

I really enjoy the food and service, small tables and over exposure (all glass around) was not so great. But good wine and a great octopus salad. more

long wait, unprofessional manager 12/11/2007

We went to Roberto Passon on a Sunday night, we had a reservation for 6.30 and the manager told us that the table wasn't ready even though we were right on time. She asked us to wait but they don't even have space to wait so we had to stay at the door for 10 min. While we were waiting the manager was acting as if nothing was going on. In fact she looked very unprofessional and lost. When she finally took us to our tiny table we saw that they put an extra chair for us which was very uncomfortable because we were actually on everybody's way. The food was good but the management was totally horrible. I'll never go back and i'll make sure that none of my friends go there either. Pros: food Cons: the management, long wait more

Terrible service 11/5/2007

Such terrible service! The management is completely dysfunctional. Our waiter seemingly forgot our order and we watched as several groups were seated and served before we even got our drinks. We were never served several items we ordered. The waiter went to the kitchen promising to bring back another omelet to replace the one that had come without the cheese; she never returned. When we asked to speak to the manager he ducked behind the counter and sent over a hapless server. The food is pretty good, but it's really not worth the lousy treatment. Pros: food is fine Cons: service! more

THIS PLACE S**KS ----- DON`T COME HERE!!! 10/14/2007

SINCE I LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. IN A FEW WORDS I`M GOING TO DESCRIBE MY EXPERIENCE==HORRIBLE SERVICE-SUPER PRIZED TASTELESS FOOD-UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGER--LOUD--CRAMPED TABLES.FOR ME IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. THERE ARE BETTER PLACES IN NYC TO SPEND YOUR MONEY! more

Good Meal, Great Service 10/12/2007

Walked in w/o reservation and was given a table immediately. Waiter was fantastic, gave great descriptions of the specials, poured wine and water timely, asked us several times how everything was and genuinely cared. We had no expectations and were very pleased with our meal. We'll be visiting again. more

RIP OFF!!! 8/27/2007

overpriced, super tiny portions, and not very tasty in comparison to the high prices. more

better than the bad reviews 8/23/2007

We almost didn't go to this restaurant based on the bad service reviews it got, but it was so convenient to the theater, we decided to give it a try. We went in mid-August, and it was just fine. The setting is very nice, the huge windows were so clear we had a debate about whether they were open or closed. The service was absolutely fine. We were in and out in an hour, which was just what we needed. The food was perfectly good...average to above average. One thing we appreciated: the portions were just the right size. They weren't so huge that you feel compelled to take home the leftovers and then sit with them at your feet in the theater. For 3 people with no wine, the dinner was about $60, which was perfectly reasonable. more

beautiful windows, creative menu 8/14/2007

my finace and i came to roberto passon on a thursday night when we were visiting the city from philadelphia. we were seated very quickly by the window, which was nice. the decor is nice- i really enjoyed the picture windows. the service was fast and our waiter was friendly enough. we had the calamari as an appetizer, which i would pass on next time. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't fabulous. i had tortellini stuffed with goat cheese, which was wonderful. my fiance had the carbonara, which was not so great. the pancetta tasted more like a slice of smoked ham from a deli rather than pancetta, which left the dish needing salt. the wine menu was averagely priced. our bill was about $70, which i would consider average. Pros: moderately priced, good wine menu, good bread Cons: lousy pancetta more

poor service, loud, cramped tables, inconsistant food, decor 5/7/2007

An overall dissapointment. I have been here several times (live in the area) with a few friends and service and food have been very inconsistent. They are constantly changing all the staff which tells you something isn't right. Also, they have been in construction for months which has left the place not so good to not so complete. The maitre de has a nasty attitude, and the hostess was yelling at the bus boy right next to us. She sat down two people when the table wasnt ready, so the bus boy came running over to set up the table asap, and she said hurry and dont give me an attitude so loud that we heard it as well as the people standing waiting for their table to be set up. I must say that their scorpinio and carpachio are fabulous every time I've went...used to love their carbonara until tonight when it was so salty that it was inedible. Pros: scorpinio, beef carpaccio Cons: service, food, ambiance, value more

No manners!! 4/17/2007
