Good Customer service. Decent Sushi Buffet 8/25/2007

I read several reviews about this place online and decided to go with friends for the sushi buffet. They start you out with a miso soup and salad. Then they give you a platter of fried hors d'oeuvres. these are grilled chicken fingers, gyoza, fried spring rolls, stuffed clams, and fried dumplings. But it is important to note that you can order extra platters of hors d'oeuvres if you like them at no extra charge.\r \r The sushi was okay. They had the standard volcano rolls as well as various nigiri (slice of fish on top of rice), and makis(standard sushi roll). There was no temakis there for the buffet (cone shaped sushi roll). The fish on the nigiri was thinner than what i'm used to getting in the Northeast and i didn't see a very wide variety of them. They had tuna, salmon, mackarel, and a white fish that i couldn't identify (sorry). The makis had the standard california roll, tuna and avocado roll, shrimp tempura and + others. I should mention that there were a large number of cooked sushi there.\r \r The service for the most part was good. Professional wait staff who were attentive to your needs. The only thing that i wasn't too fond of was the fact that they put all the sushi on one tray that circulated around the room by a single waiter. Average wait time was 10 minutes. And sometimes by the time they made it to your table, the good sushi would be gone. But the waiter didn't move in the same direction every time, he rotated from clockwise to counterclockwise every other time he circulated through the room. So every other time you had an opportunity to get the pick of the litter.\r \r The ambience is very basic and a little bit tight spaced. They have the standard tables as well as a japanese sitting/dining area where you take off your shoes and sit on bamboo mats with an overhang at the table for your feet (hopefully you can understand this).\r \r It's very basic, but the quality was decent. it's still not the best. I would go back again. Hope you found this helpful.\r Pros: Sushi Buffet!!!!! good wait staff Cons: Wait time for sushi buffet, and small space more

One of the best in Tidewater 2/11/2007

Don't let the facade fool you. The folks are real nice and the sushi is fresh. I have enjoyed their food for years. In excess of 100 lunches and dinners. I have never tried any of their standard meals and have always associated their restaurant with sushi. I have been with other friends during lunch who have sampled their cooked lunch specials and as usual, have taken the leftovers home with them. Pros: Good food for good value Cons: Ambience could use a tweak more

Best sushi we have had yet!!!!! 1/16/2007

We are on a sushi hunt and have tried several sushi places and Ginza so far has been the best!!!!! Have been going there for years!! Yes there is no smoking however they do let us run out for a quick smoke with no prejudice attitude. Always clean, good service and the sapparos are always good and cold!!! The sushi queens. more

UGH! HORRIBLE SUSHI! 11/29/2006

Picked this place in a a hurry based on some reviews saying the best sushi in town and not wanting to drive to Norfolk for a sure bet on good sushi. Reviews had said that the outside shabbiness was not an indication but it IS! We were the ONLY ones in the restaurant (at dinnertime on a Monday) but hoped the lack of atmosphere and junky surroundings would become irrelevent if the sushi was good. It was NOT. It was dry and did not seem fresh. Several rolls differed ramatically from the traditional sushi definition of that roll and that could not be anticipated because the menu did not tell the contents that this particular restaurant used for each roll. Determined to eat, we sampled all the dry rolls (even the wasabi was stale and the ginger dry) before being unable to stomach more and departing. Within a few hours, we became very ill. I was traveling early the next morning and that's the first time I've had to test the durability of airplane v*miting bags. (Citysearch won't let me use the actual V*mit word though I am being scientifically accurate!) This was a HORRIBLE sushi experience! Cons: Stale food, no ambience, will make you sick more
