I was a litte disappointed with my meal at Gin Mon. They have several awards posted in their window for best Chinese in the area so I had high expectations when I went in. The food was not bad, but just mediocre. I also felt it was a little pricey. The portions are good and the vegetables were fresh, but the taste was a little bland. With the proliferation of Chinese restaurants in the SF Bay area I don't think this is a place where I would return. Pros: fresh vegetables. good service Cons: bland food. A little pricey. more

Organic and Chinese Food don't really go together 9/6/2005

Not great. Definitely NOT the place to go if you want traditional Chinese food. They use lighter sauces, low sodium soy sauce and overall milder flavors. In fact, I would question whether it's really a Chinese chef back there. BUT, and for some of you this may be a large "but", the meats and ingredients in the dishes are high quality. ie. tender white chicken pieces and fresh, crisp veggies. I guess it's all in the taste of the individual. But their freshness doesn't make up for their lack of authenticity of taste. Pros: Fast Take-out, Good Parking more

Best kept secret on the Peninsula 2/20/2005

The family owners provide a home feel service to add to their authentic & delicious food. Their prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Try the hunan beef, vegeterian chicken, eggplant and hot & sour soup...you'll love it. Do you ever wonder if you're supposed to tip when you get takeout? I mean, there's really no service...Well, this is the only restaurant that I've ever ordered takeout that crosses out the tip portion of the bill...now that's class. more

Let's start with the value. 12/29/2004

For the use of space, the restaurant is quite nice. I was the first person to sit and order when they opened at 11:30am and I ordered and then came the food within 10 minutes. Eventually, more patrons came and their food came slightly faster probably due to the cooks getting warmed up. The lunch specials are unbeatable!! Pros: Floral surrounding, Prepared staff, Ample parking Cons: , No mixed drinks, Seating for 4 or more more
