It kept my attention 5/19/2006

We brought the girls here while visiting grand rapids one year and although I am not a big fan of museums I found this one very interesting. The kids may not enjoy it too much because there is a lot of reading documents and so on. I was very intrigued with President Ford so I am sure that is what made this visit more pleasant. more

Museum 9/12/2005

This is a great museum if you want to learn a lot about the history of the presidents and other interesting facts. It's a great place for teachers to take their students on field trips. Highly recommend checking it out at least one time. It is a inexpensive way to learn about those that are in control of your country. more

Nice museum for a short term President 8/17/2005

The Ford Museum is located close to downtown Grand Rapids and is quite nice. You enter into the gift shop and make your way into the life of Gerald Ford, who became president after Nixon resigned. The beginning of the museum covers his childhood and entry into politics, followed by his brief tenure as Vice President and the focus is on his presidency. There is a life size replica of the Oval Office during his term as well as a very cool interactive replica of the Cabinet room which you can actually sit in and view movies about the roles of the different members of the cabinet. Ford's cabinet included future political heavy-weights like George Bush Sr. (then director of CIA) and Donald Rumsfield (Sec. of Defense). more

Interesting Collection from a historic time 7/26/2005

Grand Rapids was the boyhood home of the 38th president of the United States Gerald Ford. Despite being the only person to serve as Vice President and President without being elected to either, he also has the distinction of having several things around the area named after him. Interstate 1-96 is named the Ford Freeway, the local airport is named the Gerald R Ford International Airport, and his museum is aptly named the Gerald Ford Museum. Located adjacent to the Grand Rapids Public museum, the Gerald Ford museum displays artifacts and exhibits from Gerald Ford’s political career. For those interested in American politics and 20th century history thereof, this is a pretty interesting collection. Those not interested in politics or the 70’s may be a bit bored by the museum. more
